Correction: Loadshedding started way before Zuma's era. He wasn't yet the president of South Africa when I voted for the first time in 2009 and we had loadshedding the whole day... I remember the day vividly as we slept on amagwinya fried using open fire outside our house. Furthermore, I was at university in 2008 when I first heard of the word "loadshedding" at the campus hostel where I was staying at the University of Johannesburg and it was probably the first loadshedding season I knew of in my adult life (21 years old at the time). Jacob Zuma became the president of the country in May 2009. He wasn't the best of presidents, but not everything bad about this country was because of his presidency. Unemployment was even lesser during his tenure 💯. But yeah, corruption in this country is definitely rife 💔

Zuma proposed nuclear power for our energy challenges but they protested saying renewables are the way to go.Today Europeans are luring us with US$8.5 billion so that we stop using coal so tgey can take it all for themselves.

You are correct. During apartheid era, most Black areas did not have electricity. When the democratically elected government came to power in 1994, they came with the programme called RDP, Reconstruction and Developed Programme. One of the objectives of the program, was to electricity black communities in all comer of the country. The power stations were built to power white area only, and after 80% of black communities were concerned to the grid, there was shortage of electricity.. New power stations are buying build but the level of development in South Africa is greater than the speed at which power stations are constructed. Most of the power stations are now old and they break down from time to time. The current administration has now awarded production licenses to independent power producers to help Eskom. Corruption slowed down building of power stations but it not the main course of power shortage. Loading shedding is scheduled, there is no way it can surprise us while cooking. We know exactly when power will be cut off and when it will be on. It normally takes two hours.

I once hear another African American talking about process of getting citizenship in SA talking about permanent residency first where someone is not allow to vote, she did talk about the important of knowing the political dynamic before you're involved in political debate, I think she was right in many levels...the guest don't know that loadshedding can be trace back to 2007, the reasons are also complex, you can talk about corruption, mismanagement, double size economy compare to 1994, population growth, more household with electricity...when some one talk about JSE , does he even know investment of PIC , (government) , investment in lot of JSE ?, There is also Americans company like Anglo-American at JSE ?,the issue are complex , is wise to be willing to learn

Correction: loadshedding is not an everyday occurrence here. Actually it's every 3 months or so an it's only for a week an things are back to normal. I'm sure everscince you guys got here it only happened this week. An it scheduled so you can prepare yourself an plan around it. It's normally 2hrs a day to four hrs depending on the stage level we in.

It’s been happening quite frequently since I been here-which is December. I didn’t say load shedding was an everyday occurrence, however it’s been happening quite often since I been here, damn near weekly in the area I’ve been residing. But thank you for sharing the information about the scheduling. It’s just a huge culture shock and quite frustrating when I’m coming from a place where my power never gets cut by my energy supplier, unless of course if I don’t pay my bill lol.

@baphithi 2 года назад
@@AmenPtah it happened in California for a long time. Also, loadshedding has not been happening around the country much since the year began. Your specific area might have been experiencing problems. Try to avoid generalising, romanticising and certainly get a broad range of information and exposure to a broad section of society to avoid absorbing the energy of individuals and assuming things based on their opinions, limited knowledge and exposure and biases, because this country is complicated.

Regarding ‘Mopane worms’ which are technically what I believe, the original catapillar, (the traditional green one we see is genetically modified by Europeans) is 100% safe to consume. A handful of the ‘Mapone worms’ is equivalent to a whole chicken breast protein. They are regarded a ‘superfood’ here in the UK. As I was studying my Nutrition degree, an insect restaurant opened in London and you can guess what they were selling for a ridiculous price! Yet Africans have them in abundance and the M’zungu will still say we have no food 😄😄😄 If your family are willing to try some, make sure you try the 3 types ,fried, boiled and steamed with veggies! My fav method of cooking them is fried😋 It tastes a bit like sea weed crisps!

He talks about being solution focused, Zuma was solution focused. His government and the other real owners of this country did not like that because Zuma’s solutions were designed to uplift people of African descent in this country, and they booted him out, as they do with other leaders like him, in other countries, who try to interfere with the powers that be’s program to keep their own nations in comfort at the expense of Africans. Cognitive dissonance is something very real amongst some black Americans when it comes issues plaguing people in foreign countries. They tend to believe the narrative rather than relate their own struggles to the plight of people in other nations fighting hard to come out from under the yoke of imperialistic nations. The only time you will hear about corruption in leaders of developing countries is when those leaders dare to challenge the status quo that is always in favour of the national interest of western nations’ people, at the expense of the locals in countries that are blessed with an abundance of mineral wealth. Really corrupt leaders in countries that have nothing to be coveted are allowed to do as they please to their people undisturbed.

Tell your guests to go onto a city council website or Eskom's site to get a loadshedding schedule, the cuts aren't abrupt like he states. He should learn to engage locals on how to navigate such items, he narrated that piece like an ignorant person. Choosing which African state to settle can be a challenge yes just as it is a challenge to chose which US state to live in at. Looks like u guys are in jozi the most I am assuming that's where u like the most because Capetown and Durban are tourists cities. What an experience it is to listen to the gentleman. I was blown away. Been to South Africa twice but he speaks as though he has lived here for a generation.... Outstanding. Thank you for a mesmerizing experince.
