Rob: Hey, everybody. Rob, here, at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Curt Class 3 custom-fit trailer hitch receiver on our 2020 GMC Terrain. Now, here's what our hitch is going to look like, once we have it installed. I think it has a pretty clean appearance, and that's because most of the hitch is actually going to be hidden behind the bumper, and the main thing we see is the receiver tube sticking out. Now, it is a Class 3 hitch, which means it's going to give us that two-inch by two-inch receiver tube opening, and really have the widest variety of options for accessories that we can put in there. Obviously, we could put a draw bar in there, and tow a trailer. Maybe we just want to take a bike ride with some friends.
We could put a bike rack in there, take some bikes with us. Or, if we're taking a trip, we could put a cargo carrier in the back, so we could move some of the gear on the inside to the outside, to make more room for passengers and pets. Now, the hitch is going to accept a standard 5/8" pin and clip. Now, these are not going to come with the hitch, but you can find them here at etrailer.com, along with some locking devices and anti-rattle devices, to keep your accessories secure, and to cut down on that annoying rattling sound, when we're going down the road. Now, if you are going to be doing any kind of towing, you need a spot to hook up your safety chains. And here, we have a loop style, inaudible 00:01:12 the bottom of the receiver tube. And most normal-sized hooks will have no problem getting them hooked on or taking them off.
And even with those large, oversized hooks, we still have plenty of room to get them hooked on, and not have to worry about any kind of interference. Now, if you're looking at a hitch, obviously you have something in mind that you want to use it for, so it's important to know that it can handle the tasks that we put it to. So, as far as the weight capacity goes, our hitch is going to have a 675 pound tongue weight. That's going to be the maximum downward force at the end of the receiver tube. Now, that's actually quite a bit. With that, we'll be able to carry four, maybe five, six bikes with us.
And at the same time, if you're using it for a cargo carrier, we're really going to be able to maximize the carrying capacity of those really large carriers. And at the same, our hitch is going to have a 4,500 pound gross trailer weight rating. That's how much the hitch can pull, but that does include the trailer and the load that we have on it. Now, it is also designed to work with weight distribution systems, and the tongue weight and the gross trailer weight are going to stay the same. But, with all those numbers in mind, you do want to double-check your Terrain's owner's manual, because those are the ratings for the hitch, and we do not want to exceed the ratings for our car.I'd like to give you a few measurements, and these are going to help you whenever you're looking for accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is right about 5-1/2".
Now, that measurement's going to help you when you're looking at folding accessories, to make sure you have enough room to put them in the upright stored position and not make contact with the rear bumper. From the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening is going to be right about 12-1/2". Now, at that height, I definitely recommend a bike rack or a cargo carrier with a raised shank, so we get a little bit more ground clearance out of it. But, at the same time, that measurement is also going to help you when you're looking for a ball mount, so you can find the appropriate rise or drop to match your trailer. But, now that we've seen what our hitch looks like, and we've gone over some of the features, let's go through the installation process together. To begin our installation, we want to come to the very back of our Terrain, and at the bottom of the bumper, here, we're going to have two fasteners. We need to pull those out, so we'll grab a t15 torx bit, and pull both of those screws out. Now, we do want to hold onto these, because these are going to be reinstalled. And at this point, we're going to get ready to lower the exhaust down. However, we want to make sure that it's supported, and it doesn't come down too far. So, I'm going to put up a support strap, but you can also use a jack stand or, really, whatever you have just to not allow the exhaust to come down too far. Let's find this point right here. I'm just going to tighten up the strap, so that when we do lower

Where did you get the pull wire? Or did you make that out of welding wire?

Actually, the 1/2 inch pull wires are included with with the # C77FR hitch. We also offer them separately as part # C58400 www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/CURT/C77FR.html www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/CURT/C58400.html
