Shane: Hey, everyone. Shane here with etrailer.com. Today I have a 2014 Kia Sorento, and I want to walk you through how to install the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver. This what our hitch is going to look like when it's installed. You can see part of the cross tube, but the receiver tube actually sits back a little bit underneath the edge of the bumper fascia, so we don't have to worry about hitting it when we're loading and unloading the vehicle if we don't have anything on it. Being a Class III hitch is going to make it great for some of your bigger accessories. Say you want to pull a trailer, put a bike rack on, maybe a cargo carrier, different types of ball mounts.
Being able to put a cargo carrier on, we can get cargo from inside, put it on the cargo carrier and make more room for our passengers. Bike racks, we can use up to a four bike bike rack. We're not going to have to try to load them inside or on top of the vehicle. And then again, pulling a smaller trailer, maybe a camper, or maybe a boat, being a Class III with 2" X 2" receiver tube opening, it's going to give us a lot of different options for different hitch mount accessories. You'll notice on this hitch, we're going to have two holes. This one here is going to be our hitch pin hole.
It's going to be 5/8" in diameter. It's going to take a standard 5/8 hitch pin. Does not come with the pin and clip, however they can be found here at etrailer.com. This hole here is going to be for a J-pin stabilization device. And what that does, is it's actually going to replace your factory pin, or replace the pin, and it's going to have a hook on it that's going to stick into this hole.
What it does, is when you have your accessory in, that pin, as you tighten it down, it's going to push it over against this side rail, and it's going to take any movement out of it, so you don't get that bouncing around the effect that you would if you otherwise wouldn't have that. Here, we're going to have plate style safety chain loops. You can see very large openings. So if you are pulling a trailer that maybe has a larger hook, you can see that it is going to accommodate it. This is going to be a steel construction with a black powder coat finish, so it's going to stay looking nice for a really long time. It's going to hold up really well against the elements.
If you come over here to this side, this is another thing that Draw-Tite does actually, that I really like, is they have a pre-welded bracket. What this bracket's for is so you can mount any of your wiring accessories you may want to add on later on.Now I'm going to give you a few weight capacities and measurements to help you when deciding on any of your hitch mount accessories you might need, such as bike racks, ball mounts, and cargo carriers. From the center of our hitch pin hole to the outermost part of our bumper, it's going to be about 4". That number is important for any of your hitch mount accessories, like your bike racks and cargo carriers, that may fold up against the vehicle. You want to make sure they're not going to make contact. From the ground to the top innermost part of the receiver tube, it's going to be about 13". Keep that number in mind for any of those hitch mount accessories that may require a little bit more ground clearance. As far as our weight capacities go, we're going to have a 525 lbs max tongue weight, which is the downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube. So you want to make sure when you're putting your cargo carrier on with your cargo on it, maybe your bike racks, or even your trailer if it has a little bit heavier tongue on it, you want to make sure you're not exceeding that downward pressure. We're going to have a 3,500 lbs gross trailer weight, which is the trailer plus the load included. You can use weight distribution with this hitch. Tongue weight is going to stay the same. However, your trailer weight is going to go up to 5,250 lbs.Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's walk through how to get into it installed. Start your installation, it's going to be a good idea if you remove your spare tire. It's going to make installing the hitch a lot easier. Your location is going to be right here and you can just use the spare tire kit that comes with the vehicle.Next thing we're going to do, is we're going to need to lower our exhaust. We're going to have three hangers. We're going to have one here, we're going to have one on this side, we're going to have one right in front of the axle. It's a good idea to spray each hanger down, or isolator down, with some silicon
