Hey everyone, how's it going Today we're gonna be going over and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver here on a 2022 Ford Bronco Sport. So this is what our trailer hitch is gonna look like installed on our vehicle here. Now this is a hidden cross tube hitch. So the cross tube is actually tucked up back behind the bumper here. So, this not only gives us the best overall finish, it's also gonna do the best job of making sure that we're not reducing the ground clearance too much. Now our entire hitch has a nice durable black powder-coated finish, which helps it blend in with the underbody paneling on the vehicle well, and also helps protect our hitch from rust and corrosion over time.
So, adding a trailer hitch to your Bronco Sport is gonna be an excellent option because it's gonna make your vehicle that much more versatile. So, in addition to towing let's say, we wanted to hit the trails or just simply free up some space inside the vehicle for us and the family on those long road trips, we could easily attach either a hitch-mounted bike rack or a hitch-mounted cargo carrier. So, in regards to towing, our trailer hitch is gonna provide us with a 3,500 pound gross trailer weight rating, that's the amount we can pull outward. It also has a 525 pound tow weight rating which is the downward force on the receiver tube. Now, keep in mind, these capacities are for the hitch only, which is actually tested separately from the vehicle.
Therefore, you will need to verify your vehicle's towing capacity in your owner's manual and abide by the lower of the two rated components, whether that's the hitch or the vehicle. So, our receiver tube size is gonna be an industry standard two inch by two inch, which is really gonna allow us for a huge variety of those hitch-mounted accessories to choose from, whether that's a ball mount, a hitch-mounted bike rack, or hitch-mounted cargo carrier. Now on the side of our receiver tube we're gonna have a five-eighths inch diameter hitch pin hole. That's gonna work great with our five-eighths inch diameter hitch pin and clip. Now, keep in mind your hitch pin and clip do not come with a trailer hitch, and the reason for that is, a lot of your aftermarket accessories, like a bike rack and cargo carrier are actually gonna come with their own.
So, you shouldn't need to worry about buying this separately but if you do need one, we have plenty of options here at etrailer. And then, welded to the bottom of the receiver tube, we have our safety chain loops. Those are gonna work great with these smaller S-type hooks which is probably the ones you guys are gonna be using as well as the larger Clevis hooks, should you guys have those as well. So we've got a couple measurements for you guys here, they're gonna help you when you're selecting your hitch-mounted accessories. The first one is the distance from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening.
You're looking at right at 15 inches, and that's gonna be useful when you're selecting a ball mount, that way, you can make sure you get the correct rise and drop to tow your trailer level. Now, keep in mind, this is gonna be for the factory tire size. So, if you have a different size, your measurement could vary. And then we have the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the bumper. And for that one there, you're looking at about three and a half inches, and that's gonna be useful when you're selecting a folding accessory such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, that way you can make sure that while they're in the stowed position, they don't contact the vehicle. So, in regards to installation, we do have to remove the rear bumper from the vehicle, and I know that may kind of scare you guys, but it's really not that hard at all. It's certainly a couple more steps than we would normally just putting it up into place but it's not bad at all. It's relatively straightforward. In regards to modifications, we do have to cut a small piece of the underbody paneling here, but it's really pretty minor. There's no drilling or cutting into the vehicle whatsoever. So, this is definitely something a weekend warrior or do-it-yourselfer can do at home in a few hours in the driveway. You don't have to lift the vehicle in the air and it's basically just common hand tools required. Now there is one tool you're gonna need and you may not have, that's a torque wrench. We have some pretty cost effective options here at etrailer you can pick up along with your hitch or a lot of people just like to run in town to the local auto parts store and u
