Today on our 2007 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab, we're going to show you how to install the tow-ready T1 vehicle wiring harness with the four-pole flat trailer connector. It's part number is 118496. All right, guys, here's what the kit is going to look like, minus the tools of course. You are just going to need a little kind of like a trim panel tool, what this is or a little plastic screwdriver, even a plastic thing from the kitchen. You can just kind of stick in there. Then a 10 mm wrench, ratchet, or socket.
This is the wiring harness itself. Double-sided tape on the back of the module. That's how we are going to get it secured to the vehicle. We've got the yellow and brown wire. This goes over to the driver side.
That's going to give us our turn signal and our running lights. The yellow wire, we are going to ground onto a stud behind the tail light. The red and green side, that's going to go behind our passenger side tail light for our right-side turn signal. The red wire may be for the stop signal, and then we have got the goal or really what we want, what we are after, it's going to be our four-pole flat trailer connector. This will come out right above our hitch in the middle of the truck. We've got a couple of bolts to take out here.
We're going to take the one out here at the top and the one at the bottom. Now we'll want to hang onto those. We're going to be re-installing them. Then we're just going to kind of pull out on our light. This is where that little screwdriver will come in handy.
You can kind of stick it right in between the housing and the body there and just kind of pry out lightly, while at the same time, pulling out here, to try to get that separate. What we're separating are the little push fasteners that we have got here at the top and at the bottom, just to give you an idea of where those are. Here in the lower portion of the housing there is going to be our connector. Typically it's a gray color, which has got some gravel dirt on it there. We'll push in on the tab on the side, and then just kind of give it a wiggle there, and just separate that. Set our tail light here on the tail light. We want to keep it safe. Don't want to knock it off there, and then we'll go remove that passenger side tail light. Same screw locations or bolt locations. Top and bottom. I'm just using that pick to kind of push that button in. The release tab right there on the front. We'll set that on the side there. Now let's get our connections made. Now before we make our connections here, we're going to clean out the area we intend to mount our box in, which is going to be kind of right in here. Just got some alcohol on a shop towel. Just need to clean that area up so our adhesive will stick properly. Now the hole we've got right here, that's where we're going to pass through our four-pole connector and the line that's going to go over to the opposite side. We'll just push those right down through. Now what we'll be left with here is going to be our box and our red and green wire. Now let's pull off the adhesive covering. It's going to expose the adhesive on the back of the box and we'll go right to that nice, clean location that we've got. Now using our nut, we're going to make our ground wire connection. Go right on the stud located just to the right of the box. Now that's connected. Now we'll take the small side of our T-connector, that's going to slide right into our factory connector harness. You want to hear that click, and then give it a push/pull. Make sure it's connected. Then this goes right into the back of the tail light where we removed the other one. All right. Perfect. Now what we'll do is bring our light right back into place, line up those pin holes, and pop it in to where we get that nice snap, then we'll just replace our bolts. With that back in place, let's head under the truck and route our wiring over to the passenger side and to the middle. Now we're just going to brig our wire to the four-pole. Right over the top is a small gap here, right above the rear bumper bracket. We're going to bring that right through, route it over the direction that we want it, and ultimately where we want it to come out right here in the vicinity of our hitch. Now just above the center of the hitch, there's an opening in the steel there. I think it would be a good opportunity to put a zip tie there. They kind of give us this amount of slack hanging out that we can easily tidy up. Now for the passenger side plug, we'll have to go underneath the bumper mount for there to be enough room for both plugs to pass through, but no big deal. That's a nice kind of roun
