Excellent video! I learned a lot. As I am trying to navigate what to do with my digital design products, I have thought of just setting up another Squarespace site. But I think I will do what you suggested at the end, and set up both and use Etsy as a funnel. Sidenote, one thing I haven't heard other RU-vidrs mention is, I'm sure you can always write off the Etsy fees as well as the Squarespace fees on your taxes at the end of the year, so it can help you in the end even if it seems like they are gouging you in the beginning. Once again, great video!

This was great information and thank you for making this video. I currently have an Etsy shop and also working on my website using Squarespace. I love Squarespace, but i am having such difficulty with the shipping portion of it. How did you overcome that part and got to work properly?
@bysarahkim
@bysarahkim 2 года назад
Hi JP! Ok so FULL disclosure, I switched over to Shopify in January 2022 because of the problems I had with the commerce side of Squarespace (like shipping). It didn't integrate well with other platforms. That being said, when I did use Squarespace, I used a third party shipping service called ChitChats. I copy pasted each order's address into that service and paid for shipping via ChitChats (and my shipping labels there). In terms of setting up my shipping profiles, I just had a flat rate. I used to do it by weight but it got way out of hand because of all the different products and packaging I had! I hope this helps. I do prefer Squarespace for the website portion (I'm struggling with Shopify) but Shopify seems to have overall better support for commerce in the long run!

Her advice is "spot on". Either way you go you have to spend hours promoting your own website or log into Etsy daily and do what's required for Etsy to promote your products. It's best to spend the time promoting your own website. Then list a few of your items on Etsy. Tip: I put my company name in every photo in Etsy. Use Etsy and social media to bring traffic to YOUR site! Best of luck to you!

How do you figure out the taxes? There are so many different costs per city, county, state, and more that change for each state and city? This is what turns me off on opening my own store because there isn't a clear path to easily managing all of this.

Hi Kathie! It’s actually been a few years since I’ve made that video and I now no longer sell on Etsy. Previously, I had some products that were listed slightly differently on Etsy that on my website. For example, I didn’t offer as many bundles on Etsy, because it was harder on the backend for me. I hope that helps! I’m not sure what you mean by the Google search!

Hi Pankti! Can't believe you're watching from India! I've been to India twice and really fell in love with some of the cities there. My Etsy Cons: drives me nuts that I cannot give some of my products multiple categories! I have a coffee mug that I have to put in my coffee mug category but I would also like to put it under my Sex & the City themed category. I also find it annoying that I cannot rearrange the products in my shop to group like items together so when people go to my Etsy shop link then it can look a little bit more organized. These are the two biggest reasons why I do want my own website. And also my biggest third is just wanting to do active marketing but not pay for ads to go to Etsy’s as if I’m paying Etsy’s for advertising my own products… I want to pay for ads that are gonna go to my own URL so that I can actually show Google that my website URL out there exists.
@bysarahkim
@bysarahkim 2 года назад
Hey Alicia. I TOTALLY AGREE! There was a time when I actually doubled up on listings so I could have them in two categories, but it got SO annoying every time I wanted to update them. I also am trying to be better at inventory management. Definitely go to your own website when you have the means to!! Always better to drive traffic to your own website!~
