Great video REM, your home depot has the nicest avocado tree varieties. I really need to get myself an Ettinger. Your Ettinger is looking great. Thanks for sharing!
Hi REM your videos are always so timely. I’m planting 2 Ettinger tomorrow. They were part of the cohort I got from Brokaw in the tiny sleeves and have grown them in 3 gal pots since April. I have a 3rd 2 year old Ettinger that grew about 4 ft this year after I culled a significant fruit set. Tree is about 8ft tall narrow and upright. The ones going in tomorrow are being planted next to some big Hass trees.
I have heard Julie Frink mention that if you are in a cold area and it’s all you can grow and you just have to have a avocado tree then grow a aravaipa lol. There are too many delicious varieties available to us in California to waste space on one lol
Hi Eddie, I got it earlier in the year and it was really really small and I'm glad I finally put it into the ground and it really took off. Thanks for watching!
Hi Eric, I would really like to start seeing darling have GEM avocados, they probably don't want to pay the royalty fees. I think they would make a pretty good product. I'd rather have dumb over la Verne. Thanks for watching!
@@AvocadoTalk yeah, Durling has good avocados. I usually get their 15 gallon trees. They use a mineral base soil not like La Verne. Just planted their Sir Prize, Hass, Lamb and Reed
@@AvocadoTalk actually, the GEM I planted this year was from Home Depot. It had a generic tag like the Ettinger that said GEM avocado with a Durling Nursery logo on the back. 15 gallon
With the temperatures dropping, I've lowered my watering accordingly. Turned off heat wave mode. Still running once a day but for only 10 minutes, will drop to every other day soon. Thanks for watching!
Hey, I have a quick question - I just picked up an Improved Pollack. It's quite tiny in a 1 gal pot. It's a grafted slender branch about 10 inches tall with 4-5 almost translucent leaves on top. I'm keeping it inside at night since the temps have cooled down. I'm introducing it to indirect sunlight during the day. With an avo this new and fairly delicate, what would you recommend I use to feed it? I know with my fig cuttings at this stage I would use a very diluted combination of liquid fish fertilizer and organic citrus/avo fertilizer. Any suggestions for a tree this new?
If you go with Organic then it is less likely to burn. Honestly you can go with anything, just cut the amount by half and monitor it. Congrats, I'd be curious to see how it does out here in SoCal. You are quite the collector now!
@@AvocadoTalk Thanks for the tip on the feeding routine. I just thought it would be fun to try something a little different. It's quite small, so it will take some time to mature - even to just a 4 foot tree in a 5 gal pot. We shall see.....
No coconuts here in Southern California, but I do find it odd that coconuts consume a lot of water? It's possible that you may have an avocado that is alternate bearing so flour 1 year skip one year. It is possible to have fruit with an avocado in a pot, but it's really going to be a lot more productive if you have it in the ground. Good luck! Keep us updated and thanks for watching!
