The new DEU directive on liability for defective products is set to cause many headaches for businesses that import products into Europe.

A brief overview of the directive is that it's meant to improve the following points for consumers:
1. Transparency in the product manufacturing process
2. Consumer identification of the source of the product
3. The environmental risk relating to the product
4. The ability of the consumer to take direct action related to product liability
