Milan is my fav campaign. Wars are local, with lots of terrain differences. No need to move my armies across a continent (like Russia, ugh). Great expansion opportunities, ability to form at least 2 nations.

Naples is also a really good and an surprisingly easy choice. If the Aragonese release you that is. Usually you can beat up on them with Castille and take the Mediterranean islands and then it's easy to go for the rest of Italy.

Hey ludi, thanks for the great video as always. Just wanna mention this really good strategy for getting the Ambrosian Republic really early. You can just use the introduce heir function and lower your legitimacy and then do a couple of royal marriage's which make you lose even more legitimacy, this way you trigger the ticking disaster and get it really fast like 6 months i think. You also don't care about losing the legitimacy, since you lose it as a republic anyway and you also lose the royal marriages. You do lose 20 prestige, but you can get it back with the estate.

I appreciate you taking more time to explain how and why and where you pressed certain buttons/made certain decisions. In many of your earlier videos I found myself trying to figure out how you got to certain screens, or trying to find certain buttons which could be difficult with how your speedy editing style. Definitely appreciated! Before I would figure out a lot of mechanics you used through context or cross referencing your videos with the eu4 wiki. I'm trying to get a friend into eu4 by showing him some of your videos but they would go over his head without enough base context. The extra explanations help! I know these aren't 101 videos, but they're still some of the best videos out there for even the least experienced intermediate players! You rock man!

Black Paint, if it was yesman it would be red bar and 0/0 relations. It's an ironman game, and i didn't cheat...Getting that alliance is normal since austria had friendly relations with me and I didnt unpause after the peace deal so they didnt have time to reset their relations towards me. Maybe learn the game first before making accusations?

I was wondering how to get advantage out of Savoy's early game excomunication(only one before Savoy starts buying indulgences non stop) As a Milan you can get only one provice that is viable for this casus belli - Torino, it would be most efficient to get Monteferrat and Albenga and Short truce but it is already too late at this point. Best country to take advantage is Saluzzo(border with 3 provinces).

Please do a guide for Bengal! :) I'm pretty new to the game and would love to see where it has its biggest potential, since there are so many options, monuments, cultures and religions in India, it's hard to choose from. Atm I'm trying to do a Sikh Bengal Colonial run and it is really fun that far.

I think my favorite Milan game was the time I actually gunned for a Republic run in order to form based Military Dictatorship Italy. The good duke lived until his 70s, and gave me a Talented and Ambitious Daughter with I kid you not, 6/6/6 stats, the first time I have ever actually gotten one. She got all the way up to 14 before he passed away, leaving me frothing in the mouth in rage as the six months ticked down to her entire bloodline getting removed. Still played for long enough to form Italy though.

By far my favorite country to play as. That free upgrade to all mountain forts is op. You'll be paying a arm and a leg to maintain level 4 forts, but it's so worth it. No coalition was able to touch me lmao

In my run I went with the military dictatorship. The endless coalitions war at my border ensured 100 army traditions, which led to gods to be elected for over 100 years.

Worth noting you might not want to choose show strength if you can't guarantee a humiliate opportunity against another rival early. Getting the humiliation objective really helps for getting you age objectives.

It’s actually really easy to get a claim on Genoa from the start. If you rival them and there is a high chance of one of the burgher estate missions will give you a claim on Genoa city. Taking genoa from the start giving you free claims on much of northern Italy.

As Milan, if your rivals ally someone op, like Castille, Austria or France, you have the option to leave alive some OPM like Mantua or Saluzzo, because you can use them to declare on them and pull their bigger italian allies into the war without their allies of their own. I used this to chip away at Venice and Florence who had Austria and Castille as allies. Just remember to take diplomatic ideas and put those extra dipomats to target outraged countries to counter the extra aggresive expansion impact for annexing a non cobeligerant.

Hey Ludi, little OT here. After a year and a few updates, I'm having my first colonial run as France. In previous continental runs I've also noticed huge native federation forming, preventing a smooth north America colonisation. I formed 4 overseas states but every now and then they're slapped by Zuni, Iroquois and etc... evene while having truce. How do you manage these issues? I got no notice of war declaration, I can't even help my subjects. In my opinion this kind of op native federations are really bad mechanics.

Also the other good ones at the start - Aztec, Isleta, Mohawk, Kamilaroi, Samoa, Oda, Kitabatake, Mongolia, Kotte, QQ, Kazan, Avaria, Albania, Denmark, Brittany and Leinster. Not at start - Yuan, Rajputana, Arabia, Rûm, Netherlands, GB, Prussia, US and Mexico.

Next time, if you cancel an important alliance, do not take more 50 points in the peacedeal (10 of which are already in the anulling of the alliance). This way, the truce lasts for at most 10 years, and this is also the time the alliance can not be renewed. If you take for example 100 points in the peacedeal, then the alliance is renewed by the time you can attack again. Unless you do some truce-cancelling shenanigans. Also, a coalition can form when 4 nations are elligible, not 5.

not sure how the ae would have added up, but theoretically if instead of taking montferrat, in the first war you could've taken torino instead, and then if you'd done your second war against savoy as conquest and did your humiliation against someone else, you probably could've fully annexed them and got montferrat and western switzerland for no ae. still a great opening!

I prefer Milan over Florence nowadays. They have a more difficult, weaker start than Florence due to crisis (weak starting leader + risk of being PU'd by France and Austria while rocking that -3 stability having to pay 250 admin to improve it) but ambrosian republic is hands down the best republic type in the game. My first leader in 1449 ended up being 3/3/3 19 y/o so I had 40+ years of 6/6/6 mana generation. Then you just have to make sure that you pick 1/1/4 for 4 military points and strengthen your government from time to time to maintain republic tradition. In 6 years you end up with 3/3/6. In 15 you have another 6/6/6 all while maintaining high rep and being ahead of the tech. Milanese ideas are on par with Florence. The only thing that you lose is the superior modifiers from the mission tree since Milan doesn't have any but the republic form makes it all worth it.

Hey, that's normal, try it for yourself in SP. If you have friendly relations with a nation and after a peace deal it drops, DONT UNPAUSE and u can get the alliance for that 1 day still, LIKE I MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO.

yeah, it counts from when the rebels started sieging it actually, i only sieged for like 200 or 300 days, the rest was the rebels that had 7 units and they needed 9 to siege so they never got any progress

Milan is to Italy what Brandenburg is to Germany in my opinion I really like tall nations with strong clearly geographically defined and defensible borders so Italy is just the dream for me, its hard to beat the combination of good land and easy to defend mountain passes

Wait what? Spy network affect sieges? I played this game for over 2k hours and just learned this. I guess im still 8k hours away from finishing the tutorial.
