Just to give you a heads up, Eufy doorbell cam can use anything from 8 to 24 volts. If you have a 24-volt system. Use a voltmeter and make sure it doesn't exceed the 24 volts. I had my transformer pumping 28 v and the eufy stopped working after 2 weeks it couldn't handle that much power. My new eufy is running now on 16 v and it is charging perfectly normally
Excellent review mate …I have been a fan since I started watching Your videos and reviews ..can you please confirm if the two way audio and recording feature has been fixed as I was just about to buy one .Thanks very much once again
This is a superb review, full of information and beautifully edited and filmed. I bought this doorbell just a few days ago and I learned a lot from your video that wasn't in the app manual, or wasn't explained properly. Thank you.
Great and detailed review thank you. I just installed the Eufy battery version but I hardwired it into my existing doorbell so I don't have to worry about battery life and have sound go thru my existing door chime. It's working great except as you mentioned in your review, recording stop when I press the 2 way talk. Hopefully this will be resolved soon!
Sorry if you already answered this (I looked and couldn’t find it from anyone) did they fix the delay in the audio recording? And also the fact that it cuts off. It’s prime day and thinking of getting one. That is unless you have a better doorbell to buy at this point, haha. Thanks in advance
Thorough review as always. Hoping HomeKit integration comes soon but the audio latency is disappointing. Do you think the results may be different if you hardwired the doorbell instead?
Eufy will be updating this to improve the audio lag..will be testing this some more..wiring it will not affect anything..it will just charge the battery.
I wonder if it possible to connect the older (wired version) to the new home base I do like that the older version having 3 sec pre-recording sadly the new one doesn't have but the new home base is great. looking forward to the comparison vid of the two
they would have to do a firmware update if it is possible, I would agree it would be nice since I just got a wire ver. of this doorbell and would like to get camera system in the future.
I just wish that there is an option to add expansion memory like they have on the rest of the homebases from eufy. I don think 16GB is enough to save. I know it loop records, however, I do like The idea to save more for archive.
@Lifehackster - also managed to get the new battery doorbell. Noticed the laggy video myself and changed one key setting in “video encoding format” to low compression (instead of high compression) which indicates higher bandwidth. Regardless the video is now smooth! Will test later if this helps the audio delay
I did play around with it..it is smoother but a bit soft (blurry) on the video quality..I’m testing it more with this setting..artifacts are still there though especially with movement and when subject gets closer to the cameras. As to the audio lag, eufy just told me that version 2200 on the firmware..which they just recently released should fix it..I’ll be testing this again. Thanks for the tip on the setting..
LifeHackster you’re correct. The setting drops the resolution to 1600 x 1200 vs the usual 2560 x 1920 using the high compression quality setting. For me I’m going to have to keep it at the lower setting until the firmware can make it usable at full quality. It’s still decent enough whilst the audio works properly. Fingers crossed it’s fixable.
Any updates of the things you mentioned thinking about getting this ? If not would you recommend anything else thats battery powered and works woth with Google? Thanks
Hi LifeHackster, I see your video is from Feb 2020, can you tell us if the issue you mention towards the end (the 2 way audio, after pushing doorbell) has been resolved since February? We are buying ours today and I wonder if the resolution (if not resolved yet) would be just a software download/update or if my unit will be outdated once I have it installed. Appreciate your reply. Thank you.
None of the reviews I have found on this doorbell mention the performance when you are away from home the cellular network. Does it perform as well and as quickly on the notifications and interactions with the home base ?
Thanks for review Lifehackster and look forward to comparison... As for the battery version so far for me it's a major let down I hope they address the many issues soon or they won't be getting my money
I’m confused. If this can be wired, would it work off just the wired electricity or is the wiring only to charge the battery? I want a doorbell camera that can be wired (without battery being used) and have the video stored on the home base. Would this model work for that? I don’t like the fact that the wireless eufy camera only stores on the doorbell camera itself.
Hi! I am excited to get one but I am planning to install it on my gate. However the distance between my main door and gate is around 60 feet. Will it still connect fine to the homebase providing that the only obstruction is the front house wall?
I'm glad you noted there is no pre-buffering! One step forward with base station integration one step back with no pre-buffering. I'm going to add again here the request that you start explicitly listing horizontal and vertical fields of view for these cameras.
@@LifeHackster That seems like another oversight by them! My thinking was that with your extra cachet in this arena, you might get better answers than we would if you asked. For example, I had to argue with Eufy about diagonal vs horizontal numbers over several emails before they finally sent me the real specs. I was hoping they'd just answer you straight away.
Any idea what the latest software update was for on the doorbell? Version 2.301 updated for me Feb 11. I’ve been waiting for hidden ssid connection as my doorbell is the only device that requires my network to be unhidden. I’ve searched google and cannot find anything.
Thanks for the video. Was going to buy this device but no option for 2-way audio and video recording is a no go for me. Not sure why they wouldn't incorporate this feature. Checked their website and someone in the review section mentioned they contacted Eufy support; support says their software doesn't support this. Huge miss in my opinion.
Hi LH!!As always spot on review but tell you the trough, me and by looking at the threads on Eufy community, am a bit....no...actually pretty, disappointed/P😡🤬#¤d off, not about the Doorbell function but most about the HomeBase 2 that Eufy/Anker promised to fix, so one could attach an external drive via it´s usb port. Allot of people have bought this kit and others, in the belief that one could attach an external drive to it and save images. Lets be honest....if you have allot of movement and cams around the house, 16Gb build in is nothing. I guess that is why they also not support fiddling around with video compression on for example the 2 Pros, as you also mention in one of your other reviews regarding the 2 pro cams. Its been over a year, and they, in the beginning by reading the threads, where writing that an update will soon be released, but since then when people have contacted support, they just got the answer that this is not happening. The only dissent thing they could do, is either fix it, get a new R&D group, or when they release a HomeBase3, to sent it out without charge to all people that have bought the homebase2, expecting this functionality. In my optic I see this as false advertisement about a product that they state, the usb port could be used for external drive, but instead is just a freaking dummy usb connection. Anyhow, sorry for the loooong post, but this was for me one of the main factors as to why I bought this brand and this product. You and the Family take care and stay safe!
I had the Arlo pro 2 with Two Hubs and 8 Cameras and it did well but needed charging often. Now I have 2 Eufy Cam Hubs, Eight Cam 2's, Eufy Door bell and so far am very happy with the Eufy battery longevity and App. I contemplated going with the Reolink POE 8 camera setup as I am wired for Cat 6 but a lot of labor and wires needed for a 4800 SQ foot home was extensive. My Tplink AX11000 Router along with two TPlink 2400 extenders and 16 cat 6 locations covers the whole house and provides a strong signal to the Eufy Hubs, so no problems with drop offs. My only problem is Eufy is taking forever with a firmware upgrade for the Hubs to expand the USB capabilities for extended storage.
Good set up you have there..I’m waiting for Reolink to add AI on their NVR cameras..and this will be a game changer if they do and the AI works pretty good.
@@LifeHackster I like and have installed Reolink Systems in other homes but to do it right in this home it would be very challenging and very expensive to pay a contractor as they know the dangers involved. lol! With the Eufy camera alarm, 2 75 watt Radar Lights and a High Powered Three Head Led Security Light I've managed Spook 5 perps trying to gain access to my vehicles at the rear driveway. With this Lighting setup I get color footage in the darkest of nights. I have a similar setup at all camera locations. Funny , but it goes to show that nice areas attract criminals more that the worst. That said, Smith & Wesson will always be the best security deterrent in my book!
Nobody has seemed to have covered the transmission range of the video doorbell to the homebase. I am think of using one at the gate at the end of my driveway, but its about 50m from my house! Would this work?
Excellent review, thorough, well laid out, comprehensive and clear. I'm looking to buy one of these but the delay on the audio seems crazy, especially when the whole premise of a video doorbell is so that you can answer it whilst you aren't in/are busy. Does anyone know if the delay has been fixed since this recording?
i work for fedex and 90% of the time the 2-way audio on doorbell cams is so frustrating. i sometimes pretend i can't hear them just so i don't have to deal with it.
Great video. Do you have to use the home base that comes with the doorbell or can you use the home base that comes with the eufy security cameras? Is there any advantage to having two home bases? Thanks. Love the videos. I just noticed that the do sell just the add on version.
My older iphone SE cant seem to really "see' the quality 2K high res video. i now have all the setting to low compression and low video quality and it makes no difference. Which is fine with me. i only need quick notification and decent video. Do you think a phone struggling with hi res videos could be slow to notify when preparing this file? Does the doorbell notify when motion is detected or when the video is complete?
I don’t recommend this product which are pain , to recharge battery again and again, where the description says battery last for 6 month ,and it hardly last One month. My door bell Has been flat So many Times. I tried to add another device and it’s Like chewing Iron chips. I have rebooted and re setup everything 3 times In 6 month. Which is Annoying. Price is Not cheap as well. Only reason I didn’t went with Ring doorbell Is, I have to subscribe for live view Or to see recorded view. Unless They are directly wired ,don’t go for Battery Powered door bell, if you monitor Live And it drains the Battery than ,what’s the point Of Camera. To use as Just door Bell to optimise battery Life why pay this Much, have. A normal Bell Out side. Don’t need to recharge Or subscriptions.
I just wanted to know if they fixed those audio problems? I actually just received mine so I guess I'll test it out when I get it unboxed. Thanks for the review.
2:31 If someone steals your doorbell you can still see the video....... wasn't that the problem with Eufy? That the camera needs to be connected to be able to view the encrypted video.......
Thanks for an awesome review. I just bought the wired version but I didn't know that I can connect the Battery version to wire as well. Does it make any difference if I connect the battery version to wire? Does it work the same way as wired if it's connected to the wire? Please reply me as soon as you can as I still have few days to return it. I will get the battery version then.
Doesn't make a difference. In my case it will make it easier for me during the winter not to mess with it especially in January when we have - 15 or -20 degrees.
My only question: if I already have a traditional intercom wired and I want to upgrade to this one, will it have an option to open the door through the app? or is just to communicate? this is my only concern that I have not found any reviewer talk about? Because I need to open the gate with it, for my kids to get in or a delivery guy to leave the package inside the gate not outside. thanks,,
I am in the market for a battery-powered doorbell and this review was VERY helpful. Thank you. I have a pretty basic question, I think, re whether the notices/alerts can be sent to multiple phones. If my wife is home and I am not, would she be able to see on her phone who is at the door, as well?
I'm surprised how much audio latency you have on the battery doorbell. The wired one is not nearly that bad. The motion detection push notification also seems to be twice as long. And for these reasons I'll probably stick with my wired model. I look forwards to your comparison. The interface with the existing chime is really interesting. My biggest complaint about the wired Eufy doorbell is that I had to give up my mechanical chime, which was a nice smooth 1960s chime that you could hear through the whole house. The plug in wireless chime is cheap and tinny sounding. I wonder if it will ever be possible to have the best of both worlds. Wired doorbell for charging and chime control, base station inside for secure video storage, and a recording buffer. Eufy if you're out there listening!
Really, the one I bought did exactly that. It was the battery model that required the Homebase 2 but you could wire it to the existing doorbell lines and it would not only charge itself off those lines but would ring your existing mechanical chimes, it also gave you the option of also operating the electronic chime in the Home base 2 and the option of one, the other, both or none. I do find the remote alert to your phone can have rather significant latency sometimes but it does have a quick notification mode.
Seriously! I also have the wired doorbell and I can't understand why they can't ring the existing chime. Also you can't add a homebase to the wired version, what the hell?
I just sent that question to Eufy and here is their response: " am sorry that when the user is answering the visitor, the doorbell will not auto record the visitor due to the PIR settings. But users can record the video by himself. Also, the doorbell currently supports two-way audio but only one-way recording."
I bought this fantastic product, it worked perfectly and I am very satisfied, it just cut off the power to the whole area at some point and now it does not work. can you tell me what i need to do?
Hi LifeHackster. Once again, thank you for your awesome videos. I purchased the eufy floodlight cam because of your review. Has there been an update to improve the delay between 2 people talking through the phone and doorbell? The lag was very apparent in your video and it is restraining me from pulling the trigger on it. If it indeed improved, I will buy it to accompany my existing eufy cam. Thank you.
i don't think you addressed whether this doorbell is able to connect to wifi with hidden ssids. eufy claims the wired doorbell can but it doesn't. years later after their doorbell kickstarter and still users are forced to unhide their ssids just so that the doorbell works. once you hide it your doorbell stops working. inwonder if this is the case with this one as well.
I bought this doorbell and it arrived today - I've spent two hours trying to get it to work and given up because the light is going I can't get the homebase 2 to 'see' the door bell and the instructions don't tell you to pair them before attaching it to your door - I have an existing wired doorbell with two ringers but neither work when I connect the new doorbell - no idea why - anyway tomorrow I will try again but with the doorbell next to the homebase2 as you did it in your review - do you know if they have fixed those recording issues and the delay because it seemed like the delay was about 6 seconds - that's impossible to have a conversation with a carrier that wants to get away as quick as possible
Great video.... loved the details .. really helpful. Can you advise on the range ? Like how far can we place the doorbell from the homebase and it will still work?
I hope you are doing well. I have question about Ring & Eufy , Are they available to work at any country (like Cambodia) , or they only work at selected country? I will be happy to answer me
@@LifeHackster Yeah my ring alarm won't connect because my Internet is poor, I could've got good Internet but I moved in during coronavirus and my isp said all the fibre allocations in my area have been taken for now. My Phillips hue stuff won't work online yet as well. Wonder if the eufy alarm system needs good Internet as well? Fortunately all my eufycams still work with the internet I have.
Awesome review. Any thoughts on wireless versus wired? Do you have any additional information with respect to battery life. Obviously, wireless is far simpler but I am willing to upgrade my transformer to ensure quality video and audio. Any other video doorbells you recommend preferably with no subscriptions?
this doorbell is nothing better than my 50USD crappy doorbell.Since it s function is to have live conversation after the button pushed plus to see who is at your door. This bell failed in both actions. The only positive here is the fast alarm, not long seconds between the push and the mobile alarm. This is the only different to a cheap Chinese crappy bell.Te price is horrible.Thank you for the video,I almost purcsed it.Insead o the Spotcam doorbell.Which is having same issues.thx
That's a great indepth review thanks. Do you happen to know if it's possible to have the hard wired bellpush with the homebase. I ask, because the one that is hardwire only is smaller than the battery powered version and looks much better.
I see on Eufy's website that the battery doorbell is advertised to have "advanced human detection," however the Eufy wired doorbell model does not have that feature advertised. Could you tell me if the ability to ignore non-human movement actually works well? I have cats that hang out in front of the house, and I need a a camera that will ignore the cats and only send me notifications when it's a human approaching.
my xiaomi security camera has never failed of picking up a human, also the notification to phone is super quick in saying that you have to set the notification to human only, as it picks up literally every single motion .
aloha just got the home base 2 and battery video doorbell , i have home base 2 connected , but seems i'm having trouble binding the video doorbell to home base 2
