I’m gonna say it. Syrinx sounds better on the oboe. It naturally has that tension. Also, a reed instrument is fitting with the myth this is based on. I only realise now that all my time playing this piece I was trying to achieve something to this effect. Bravo sir!
I began serious study at 63 years old - not playing since high school. After hearing Syrinx a month ago I asked my teacher with the Virginia Symphony to help me learn this well. Your talent overwhelms me and the perdendosi is simply exquisite! Two students at Oberlin, also taught by VSO oboists, had the great opportunity to attend master classes there with you. You, and marvelous teachers like Mr. Walters and Mr. Atherholt are an inspiration to oboists everywhere. Thank you!
Mr Izotov, thank you for this beautiful video. I haven't heard this piece played on the oboe either. It is very inspiring to hear the amazing range of oboe colours: from glorious high notes to stunning pianissimo low notes. Camilla B
Trully brilliant! I think I love your version the best. The sound of the oboe just suits that exotic character and the beautiful low notes you've played really makes me think it should have been scored for oboe as well.
Beautifully played. Of course, this is a quintessential flute piece and I am a flute lover. That said, your tone is gorgeous and expressive. Flutists “borrow” Dvorak’s 3 Romanzas for Oboe and Piano (or Clarinet), International Ed; so fair is fair. Thank you for posting your performance.🎉🎉🎉🎉
Great Performance and I like the most that you are not looking for recognition by looking at the camera at the end of your performances. Kudos to you!.
