The weapon functioned fine the magazine was under to much spring pressure from being over loaded that being said it's a 30rd mag it should hold 30 no problem but that happens with 3-4-5th party manufacturers
@@stateofchrysalis5483 I know right? Chocolate steam a hater. These 2 men are some of the greatest tool inventors of our time. The common man and woman can build, clean and service these with ease and vigor.
The Chinese made Polytech Legend. Was probably the finest import AK. Ever available in the USA. (Milled Receiver). The Norinco variants were great quality as well. Chrome lined barrels, forged trunions, etc. Russian AK’s for the American civilian market never really became a reality. Due to 94 assault weapons ban. And the ridiculous 922R laws. The Russian Saigas and Molot Vepr rifles that were later imported. In “sporting configurations”. Had to be converted while complying to the 922R laws regulating. The number of foreign made parts vs American made in a non- sporting rifle. In 2014 Obama, banned the import of Russian made firearms.
Its America. They have like the worst gun laws on the planet. Not only they have embargo on everything and their domestic production sucks, but they make real weapons crippled by stripping them out of auto sears and another crutial components. Not only this piece of shit is Chinese, but also made in garage by some bum with hammer and pliers
@@therealsajad No they're not. Any registered before 1986 are fully transferable to another person. Any full auto after 1986 requires an SOT with a valid FFL. Even in the 90's all they had to do was find a dealer of NFA items, such as suppressors. They could have taken a full auto M16 and AK to the range. I don't see why they didn't do that. This was filmed in 1990, so there was no shortage of freshly registered full autos they could have used if they didn't locate an NFA dealer.
At 7:55, the interpreter walks up behind Kalashnikov asking "you know how to load the rifle?" Mikhail doesn't hear, answers "Huh?" and goes on loading and cocking it lmao.
"Huh?" **proceed to use bolt release button* C'mon Mr. Interpreter, He was one of the most important person in Soviet Union. He could have seen or even fire it himself before, just like what the US did to his AK.
@ET Hardcorgamer My favorite part was when Stoner was shooting the AK with no hearing protection. I got worried then realized it was a legendary moment
Stoner's subtle quips are great Ezell: "Yes, it's build very strong. You can see how the bolt face is recessed to..erm... it's build very strong." Stoner: "That's for these reloaders when they make little mistakes..." lol
I was thinking the same thing when he made no effort at all. You could tell he felt good about that one lol. Then proceeds to fire faster and more accurately than him lol
@@noahbianchi1920 “AKs are crude” is Fuddlore. They aren’t precision machined like an AR but there was something off with that mag. AK mags are only milliseconds slower than AR mags.
@@jzimmerman284 this is the fucking Smithsonian institute we are talking about here. I’m sure a company with that much money can sort out a way to get a Russian or at least Eastern European AK.
They joked about a Kalashnikov-Stoner hybrid. In 2021 there are several guns like that, including the CMMG mutant, a Daewoo, the ARAK, and several others. I like the Daewoo the best personally.
The Daewoo k1 and k2's are hybrids of the ak and AR-15 platforms. The k1 is a submachine gun, while the K2 is an assault rifle, and features a folding stock that resembles that of the fal. Both firearms are still used by the ROK armed forces in present day.
The FNC was a thing in the 80s. The Daewoo K2 was a thing in the 80s. The Beretta AR70/90 was also a thing in the 80s. another modern example is the SIG SG 553 AL US variant
Timestamps for the First section 1:55 Magazine seating issues in the "bad chinese" kalashnikov 2:40 The cause of the issue found (bolt was hitting the magazine) 3:20 Kalashnikov firing his rifle 5:30 Stoner firing his rifle 7:01 Stoner firing five rounds from the (chinese) Kalashnikov 8:00 Kalashnikov firing five rounds from the AR-15
The cause of the issue was an overloaded magazine. It's what Mikhail said and did. You can hear the sound of him unloading one round. The last 30th round in an ak magazine should index to the left side. They added a 31st and the spring couldn't compress further to let the bolt move over the bullets.
Feels surreal to see them not only fire their respective rifles, but then to fire 5 rounds out of the other's rifles. Still not gonna get over how they handed the man who made the damn gun what's essentially a Chinese bootlegged version.
@@durzoblint6532 Like a WASR? Half a decade too early. China was really the only game in town at the time, Steyr imported 2000 Egyptian AKMs in 1982 and Interport brought 50 side folding Maadi rifles.... AKA rare as hen's teeth comparably. Pre-ban imports of what they were after probably number ~5000 in total, and this is a year into the ban so they were likely being held quite tightly, if they could even locate someone that had such a beast. "kit guns" like Century made, I don't think that was a thing yet but I could research... takes time to get that together, not sure I'd hand one to The Dude Himself anyways.
@ET Hardcorgamer considering how many different types of guns/weapons the US made, invented and used during ww2. Going deaf/having really bad hearing doesn't sound too unlikely
I understand Russian, and that translator is pretty bad at his job. He clearly doesn't understand firearm terminology, but he also doesn't seem to understand Russian or English that well either. They could've pulled any old Russian dude off the streets of New York and they would've translated better.
I understand this I can see the confusion on kalashnikov's face he literally just doing everything they're telling him to but The interpreter is very bad at his job
It was a time when USSR still had to be a thing, so pretty sure that interpreter was from KGB. It could explain both bad terminology and language and kind of awkward behavior like "do you know how to load a gun?"
I don't think Mr stoner was ready for that first round but it's amazing to see two legendary gun designers who built to battle each other actually sit at the same table
Thanks man, I think without your help we would never be able to watch this video. Personally, I saw them together only in a photo and did not even know about the existence of this film. As a compatriot Mikhail Timofeevich, it was very interesting for me to watch how they showed each other their submachine guns and told their stories. Thanks again, and God bless the Google translator :)
What I wouldn't give to see John Moses Browning, John Garand, and all these guys together! It bums me out we ever have to use these in defense against another human, and it can't always be like these range get together's, in my opinion. Hard to tell if these times are the man, or the young man in us. These two guys, both Military Men, both firearms engineers. Eugene did awesome. Mikhail's firearm safety was just IMPECCABLE. I expected a Lil old school Russian salt, but it was super professional. Whole interview was a HUGE treat. John Browning, Sam Colt, all these guys. It's just amazing seeing how they made these with love and care. Even though we sadly need em for self defense, it's great to have them just in case, as well as the range days and hunting. The history and the chance to get to know these guys, it's all been worth it to share that.
@@Full_Otto_Bismarck id just laugh cuz they dont know lol i own a type 56s1 and a polytech legend , these are workhorses , i can’t remember the last time ive had a problem

This was a good point in our history. Two men who created iconic weapons that have undoubtedly directly taken thousands if not hundreds of thousands of lives each, come together in a time of peace and understanding. The 80s and 90s were a nice time.

Yeah the 5.45 x 39 is only traditional for Russians. That's why Mikhail created his last design 100 series AK101 which can be chambered in 5.56 NATO and for global export.
AR platfor with differen varians from different manufacturers is really popular in Russia among IPSC shooters and firearms enthusiasts! People appreciate it's accuracy, ergonomics, accessories' and OEM parts' availability that allows almost any way of customization imagineable.
Saying the AR is better in most areas is personal opinion considering the AK has been used in all environments around the world for half a century and can run wet, dry, dirty, clean, has less moving parts, can be cleaned faster, taken apart faster, shoot steel or brass ammo with no issues etc. the AR is great platform, but the AK has been proven more reliable and durable for 50 years. Not crapping on the AR Bc it’s good in its own right. But the AK is the superior weapon in more categories than the AR
@@jakeh6980 I get my opinion from forgotten weapon's Ian and various other sources like military arms channel. Both have said the same. Inrange Tv tested both in mud and the AR outperformed the AK. One area where the Ak seems better is in the cold. Not surprising since it's russian
The Russian translator goes up to Kalashnikov and asks if he knows how to release the bolt on the AR...totally ignores and proceeds to handle the AR like a pro 😂
@Erozpl01 01 yeah they probably could have done it better, but it's neat to see what someone came up with trying to pull the best features from each of them
I'm amazed they couldn't arrange to have an authentic AK brought to the range for this occasion. Surely the US had one laying around from previous wars..
That translator ruined the entire thing, he was incompetent. Hey, does anyone think that Stoner looks like a chubbier bro of Hickock45? He voice is similar as well.
@ET Hardcorgamer he’s not just the AK designer he’s the AK bender, master of the 4 soviet weapons whoever masters the AK, AR, Glock and 1911 in all will be called the Gun Avatar
These reason the mag wouldn't go in was because it was over-loaded. That's why he had that "ah of course" moment at 2:35 and took a round out of it and then it went in no issue. Same thing as when you load 31 rounds in a 30rd AR mag and try to insert it with the bolt closed which I guess only makes sense if yall have ever shot either of these rifles. Also they joke about "bad chinese made gun" but that's a Polytech Legend, literally one of the finest AK variants to come into the US. Norinco (the Chinese company that produced these) worked their asses off to insure the quality of their US imported firearms because the US is a very very profitable firearms market and people will spend A LOT for quality., it was very worth the effort. On top of that Polytech took it further and made hem even better rifles once they came into the country so the rifle he had was not the issue whatsoever. tl;dr It was just an overloaded magazine issue, it had nothing to do with the rifle. The rifle is very high quality despite the stigma around Chinese made things.
@@Genadz13No it was an accident. They just loaded cartridges until it wouldnt take anymore. Most AK magazines won't let you put more than 30 unless you really push hard so someone who didn't know the rifle platform probably filled the magazine or the magazine was really worn in.

Too bad this was produced so badly- It was a great opportunity to document two iconic characters of the 20th century. The interpretor was not very good, there should have been a moderator to help guide Kalashnikov and Stoner through the meeting. Kalashnikov seemed anxious at times and Stoner seemed a little stoned 🤣 at times. Then at the range, it looked like an accident waiting to happen. And then some hayseed loads more than 30 rds in the AK magazine, embarrassing Mr. K when the receiver rejects it. At least we have this historic meeting on video.
Shit so surreal I was beginning to expect some dude to turn around and be gun Jesus, something funny happens and John Lovell laughs in the background with garand thumb and Balaclava and sunglasses, and it just devolves further when you notice the other dudes walking around are Jerry miculek and hickok45 while the camera pans and you see Brandon and akou testing 50 calibre kalashnibrens next to Larry Vickers being interviewed by IV8888 and they're on demolition ranch and Lucas botkin is the range officer
