Here I left a sample in a humidity chamber overnight instead of discarding it after observation. A healthy community of protists, algae and bacteria was thriving on the next day. Here I captured a couple of Euglenoids that sport a red eyespot and a flagellum and were occasionally disturbed by larger Paramecia buzzing by.

Hey man, this is so cool. I would like to try phase contrast one day, though is too expensive. :( But anyways, I´ll be having brightfield and darkfield by the moment. Keep going, you have my support!

What are the dot-like things, that change to a red donut with blue inner dot when you change the focal plane?

A highly refractile body, probably a bacterial spore. The colors you describe are likely a result of dispersion (wavelength-dependent refraction). The shorter the wavelength the less it shifts away from the center which is why you can achieve higher resolution when using shorter wavelengths for observation.

What's the worm-like thing coming out from the euglena?

That's the flagellum, its used for movement and sometimes to whip others as a weapon.

Green cells are autotrophs or they are strained green?

You are correct, they photosynthesize. However, some species can switch to heterotrophy if light is not present.

They can’t eat each other I’m assuming can they?

I think not, the Euglena seems too large to fit in the mouth apparatus of the Paramecium.

Hi there, really quick question and if you could answer this in a couple of days time that would be such a relief. Basically, which cell eats which, is it the paramecium eating the euglena or the other way around? One search says one thing the other says another and I assume that your an expert so it would be a relief if I could get a conclusive answer :( @microscopyandoptics

In this case I don't think anyone eats anyone else.
