It is great that weapons licensing is helping you guys with the build even though they have to. They could just as easily have said no as we have enough firearms available in the country now. Build these firearms in Australia will make it easier for us as we will not have to rely on imports so much. Hope the project goes well.

Hi Charlie, I will run it by the team again. There is not enough meat in the billet as the thickness of the lower is exactly the size we purchase. If we were to buy a bigger piece, the gun would be $300-400 bucks more expensive. The only thing that might be possible is to slightly round the inside edges. The other option is to leave a small cut in the outside of the magwell to then have someone make an after market flared magwell attachment that "clicks" in. However, given that we have a strict timeline and that we have closed further changed (its now going into production) it will be something that needs to be done after-market.

I was hoping for a type of lever release that had a lever that reset like a trigger so that the bolt won't go forward if you hold the lever down too long while shooting. I can imagine some timed competitions or pest control where you are going for speed. This may cause a disadvantage by causing a round to be loaded but not able to fire it. I imagine it wont be impossible to modify the lever to reset assuming there is room in the receiver wall? I do love this project and I am glad there is some new Australian made rifles like this!
@AustralianSportingAgencies
@AustralianSportingAgencies 25 дней назад
Thanks for the feedback. Believe me when I say this is a non-issue. In practice you won't have that issue, especially if you trained. In terms of modification, many companies have tried to make it work in a centrefire but failed. We understand how difficult it is and left it alone. That said, once you have one and you work something out, let me know.

looking really good fellas! glad to see the addition of the barrel rod cleaning hole and other little changes. My only concern is that if you manage to hold the lever down while your firing accidentally (maybe a tense moment), it seems the bolt will have to be pulled back to reset the rifle. Im surprised there isnt a mechanism that makes it so that if you held the lever down the bolt would still be held back and when you release the lever it will then be able to be pushed down again to chamber a round (like a simple sear). Anyway the rifle looks really nice and im very keen to try it!
@novusrex2639

the A22r holds back the hammer when the lever is pressed. but the difference between the eureka and most other lever releases is that most other lever guns are semi autos with a trigger pack, whereas the eureka is built from the ground up as a lever release. i do think it could be an issue in the heat of shooting if you press it by accident and now have to rack and press to get back to shooting. it needs something to stop it from being pressed while its in battery rather than punishing you for doing it.

@AustralianSportingAgencies

No it doesn't. The A17R needed it because the gun was shit. Sorry to say but I own one and hoped never to have bought it. We see no reason to catch the bolt half way back it is likely to cause more harm and good. We have full confidence that the gas system will deliver more than enough pressure to drive the bolt back every time.

Hi mate, I'll try to answer all the comments: 1. 2. The hand-guard was the prototype we received, the upper is off a newer design, hence they don't match. The production version will likely match exactly (to be confirmed) Our issue is that we won't see the final hand-guard before the uppers are made.
@Christoph1888
@Christoph1888 27 дней назад
Keep in mind they are trying to keep production costs down. So that means minimal machining passes, minimal material waste ect. The gun is trying to come to market at a price point. I suspect that's partly why they have a cross bolt safety.
@sokhar69
@sokhar69 27 дней назад
Well, a slight smooth bevel on the magwell inside edges would go a long way for usability, IMO. Nothing too dramatic, just what you'd see on a typical AR15 magwell, they've all got slight bevels. I think the aftermarket can probably easily attach a huge magwell flare via the trigger guard screw holes, for IPSC comps etc. Good to hear the production version handguards most likely have a seamless top pic rail. Thank you for the reply. Cheers.

The new weapons licensing director has done a much better effort with transparency than their predecessor already. Back then it would have been unheard of to have any kind of feedback from the licensing branch as to what the designs should cater towards in order to pass inspection, felt like they were actively working against manufacturers. On a side note: personally I'm extremely chuffed with the disassembly. Thought it would initially require punches, mallets, screwdrivers, etc but the way its been kept relatively similar to that of the WFA1's method of disassembly I think it should come naturally to some folks (myself included). @@rvrski1The only issue there is that you're eventually going to get muscle memory to the point where you flick down the lever after every shot. An empty magazine bolt hold open that catches the bolt if you flick the lever on an empty mag would fix that issue. And if the bolt hasn't been released by the lever then it won't have caught on the mag hold open, so it shouldn't interfere if you reload that way.
@tallboy49
@tallboy49 28 дней назад
The bolt will stay open regardless of weather it is the first round or any round. Remember it is a lever release.
@kameradenkonrad3843
@kameradenkonrad3843 28 дней назад
@@tallboy49 what i should clarify is a dedicated bolt catch like on an actual AR, that gets activated by the magazine follower - ie similiar to how a magazine on a auto loader pistol locks back when empty. Seeing from the video the lack of any bolt catch device, I assume not. Even then, having a seperate bolt catch device for this feature introduces more complexity and possible handling confusion between the lever release mechanism - two seperate systems trying to catch and hold the bolt for their own reasons. I also think its a little late to get ordered parts and springs plus milling out a channel for the Bolt catch. Reciever fencing milling would be possible or even bolted on as an addition. The exposed release button does remind me of the early AR-10 and Vietnam issued XM-16 "flat slab" recievers.
@AustralianSportingAgencies
@AustralianSportingAgencies 27 дней назад
You answered your own question there. The mag will hold the bolt open when empty however if you take the mag out before securing the bolt back in his rear position (for the lever to re-engage) the bolt will go forward and close empty. So the operation would be as follows: 1. Push lever 2. Mag empty, bolt stops on mag 3. pull charging handle back 4. push mag release button 5. insert new mag 6. push lever, bolt closes, 7. engage trigger PS: the mag release button is exposed as the aluminum billet would need to be thicker whcih would cost hundreds of dollars more in production to just do that and maybe fare the magwell. We are after all working to a price point.

Have you considered treating the internal receiver with P-109 Micro Slick from cerakote ? Can the hand guard be keyed to mate with the receiver. Are these machined in Australia ? Is that Turkish grip and stock ? Is the barrel manufacturer Green Mountain Rifle Barrel Co. ?
@AustralianSportingAgencies
@AustralianSportingAgencies 27 дней назад
The bolt runs on two bars and basically doesn't really touch the receiver, so we see no need for it. You could run it completely dry like we have for 1000 rounds to see wear and tear. No the handguard won't be keyed in this version. We see no need for it. Time will tell if we change our mind on that. Yes machined and made in AU Yes they are turkish. Which in principle is not a problem if you use premium suppliers which we do. Yes they are GM barrels.

I am sure there will be an aftermarket for this rifle just like there is one for the Taipan.

Thanks Rick, a couple of comments….. For those of us who catch cases we need the charging handle on the opposite side to the ejection port. Cross bolt safety’s aren’t as manageable as a MSR style levers when at your shoulder. Someone else mentioned proud fasteners on the hand guard and the pic rail inconsistency between the upper and hand guard. Adjustable trigger? As it’s a proprietary trigger group triggers need to be adjustable for different applications. Now that we see the gun dressed its apparent the commitment to get away from the MSR AR platform “look” I suspect to appease the ignorant (or agenda driven) authorities (you’ll never satisfy the ignorant agenda driven public). It’s a shame in many ways as we loose a lot of the benefits of that MSR AR platform in appeasement.
@AustralianSportingAgencies
@AustralianSportingAgencies 27 дней назад
Hi mate, I'll try to answer all the comments: 1. Charging handle can't be put on the other side because there is no room in the bolt carrier group to do that. 2. When you have the gun, you will find that the safety is easier and faster to switch than any gun before. Hard to show, but believe me. You can have your trigger finger already on the trigger and just push the safety in with your thumb joint. You will see, mark my words. 3. The hand-guard was the prototype we received, the upper is off a newer design, hence they don't match. The production version will likely match exactly (to be confirmed) Our issue is that we won't see the final hand-guard before the uppers are made. 4. Trigger can be adjusted by a gunsmith but not by an end consumer. Jim is a trigger Nazi, so I am very confident it will be a super nice trigger. However, there is legislation on how light a trigger can be from a manufacturer and Eureka will have to follow that. If you want it lighter, hit up your local gunsmith or we might have one we recommend in-house. 5. I am certain that there is nothing you loose compared to AR platform, we have improved on the ergonomics and mechanical design while giving the firearm the best chance to be approved in the first place, when you hold the gun, you will feel and see it. No point in having an AR if you can't buy it or sell it. PS: don't get me wrong, I don't approve subjective laws at all.
@rvrski1
@rvrski1 27 дней назад
@@AustralianSportingAgencies Appreciate the detailed reply 1. Understood. Well look into solutions when the rifle arrives. 2. No probs, we’ll trust ya. 3. More of an aesthetics thing as one wouldn’t be mounting anything over the join. 4. I’m not sure there’s actual regulations that prevents a trigger from being adjustable, just regulations that triggers have to be delivered from the factory above a certain pull weight. I can understand manufactures treading cautiously even if within the regulations in a litigious environment given there’s no IQ test when obtaining a firearms licence or a PTA. 5. I hope your right, I’ve used an MSR AR platform commercially in the past and I can honestly say that beyond being RH orientated (near impossible to get LH lowers back then) there wasn’t anything I’d change. Looking forward towards a tool specific for station work across boarders. Cheers, T
