WTF are you talking about when you say they are not good in World Cups???... if you said "they have not been good in World Cups after they won it in 2006" that would be accurate. But in World Cups they have 4 and have been to the final 2 other times, and semis 2 more times... they actually historically perform better in World Cups than in Euros.
2 world cups in pre-world war era. We all know what could have happened. Their World Cup record is overrated, Argentina are far more consistent. And H2H aside, they are nowhere near close to Germany and Brazil
@falconranger3116 rubbish. You forgot italy shouldve won 1990 and potentially 1994. Euro 2000. Argentina won with the best players in HISTORY maradona and messi.
Actually in Italy we absolutely don't feel any pressure except to reach the competition itself. This is our state of mind from 2010. Because we know that our generation of players is not legendary right now, we never expect anything. We didn't even expect to win the last one. But we know that we can lose immediately or win them all. It's all about the single match after match. your Analysis was really good and it's always interesting understand how people from outside see us. The crucial chance can be made by the Inter Block, which is the reason why Spalletti chose the defense with 3 centre backs. So acerbi, Bastoni, Barella, Dimarco, Darmian. The other important point is as you said, the scoring part. Chiesa and Scamacca have to prove something.
Italy needs to think about the future, in this case the next World Cup. We have enough quality to compete at the Euros, even retain it imo. At the same time we can start building a team for both the WC qualifiers and the WC itself. I wanna see many of our young talents in this squad. A 3-4-2-1 seems like the formation Spalletti will start with. Acerbi, Damien, Jorginho will mostly not play at the next WC. I will prioritize some of our young talents over them. You wonder why we’ve struggled at qualifying for the WC, because we use the old guys and never inject the youth when they’re even ready. My starting 11 will be Donnarumma Calafiori Scalvini Bastoni Bella Jorginho Barrella Di Marco Pellegrini Chiesa Scamacca Both Scalvini and Calafiori have been excellent this season in Serie A with the former in Europa League. Calafiori is excellent with his feet and can adapt both in a back 4 and in the midfield. Pay attention to how Thiago Motta has used him. This formation can easily be turn into Spalletti’s preferred 4-3-3. Calafiori moves to LB, Bella to RB, Pellegrini to CM and Di Marco as a LW and Chiesa to his favorite RW. Also Di Marco with his offensive abilities can play LW. Acerbi and Damian will still go and play certain matches. It’s time to look to the future.
I've watched a lot of Italy over the qualifying cycle and during Splaetti's management. Even if they don't have that 1 crazy good striker, they have had a handful of guys step up at different times and they seem to just get the job done. They've actually seemed to struggle much more with keeping the ball out of their net whether it's from lackluster defensive play or via Donnarumma mistakes. What usually is a strength of Italian football is something I have recently found to be very very shaky instead.
Italy has always done well in tournaments when they have had a consistent backline playing together. Therefore I think Spaletti should play Darmian, Acerbi, Bastoni backline. They played together at club level for years and he should just do the same as Barzagli, Bonucci, Chelinni.
Never discount Italy.. their first 2 games were nothing.. Just a test for them, they went out to keep the ball.. test out players..they did not go out determined to win..dont forget italy are one of the best..they have Spalletti who is a master mind like mancini.. against albania..it will be a different team..trust me
I agree that Zaniolo doesn't have any business to start. Quaterfinal is a reasonable expectaton for Italy. But I wouldn't be surprised if they get past the quarterfinal hurdle. I rate Spaletti and I think he's about to start cooking with Italy. Maybe this EURO comes too soon. Who knows. But I'm confident that Italy will look like a very good team and surprise some doubters.
the fact donnarumma is only 25 amazes me, the guy has been in this for so long it almost feels like he should be 30, his best years are in the future, hopefully he fixes that couple things were he is lacking. Scamacca might be one of those weird italian striker cases a la Salvatore Schillaci, where he suddenly gets into form and has an amazing tournament with the NT.
@@edgarmulamula7090🔥🔥 no One wants to bealive It Bro..and are already disregarding Italy.. the whole world might be in for another big big Surprise..they forget this sport is the italian job
I think that your prediction for 2024 sounds reasonable. For this Euros, I am glad that Immobile and Belotti are not in the squad. Scammaca is on form and should start as their main striker.
Cambiaso is the best player in Juventus in this last period. I think he deserves the spot on the right for an offensive playstyle. Di Lorenzo is better for defensive style
Just because Scamacca is killing it right now doesn’t necessarily mean he should be starting. I say retegui over him for now as he’s been in form playing with Italy. Take immobile for example, every year he was leading scorer and look how good he ended up….
Very tough group for Italy, cant really pick a team who would win the group, but i am confident we will pass the group. But the overall quality of the squads in this years EURO's is really insane.
I looked at the various possibiities, arriving first, second or third in the group, would get, if I'm non mistaken, Germany, England or France at quarter finals, so it's pretty much our unbreakable ceiling right now. But... we are Italy, we almost always perform when we are in a tight spot, in 1982 betting scandal, world champions, in 2006 calciopoli, world champions, in 2021 after a failed world cup qualification And a pandemic, european champions. Never write out Italy. In 2016 with the worst squad we've ever had we got eliminated at quarter finals after penalties against Germany. Dreaming is free, isn't it?
I was moderately optimistic until recently but less so lately about this team. I think the tournament comes too early for Spalletti who's only been here 9 months, it's not enough to implement what he wishes to do. Maybe 2026 will be the right time for that (if they qualify that is). The group sucks: not because Spain or Croatia are particularly strong at the moment but because Italy always struggle against these teams. Would have been much better to be in the group of Germany, England, Belgium or Portugal. The formation is another issue. Spalletti always has his teams play with a four-man backline but the Inter players who represent the core of the squad are used to playing with 3 at the back and Bastoni has looked very poor in a central defence partnership (rather than trio). Calafiori is excellent but unlikely so start (which is quite ridiculous frankly) and not even sure of his place. Given the difficulties faced in qualifying I think R16 or 1/4 finals would be a good showing from Italy. From there we'll see.
Look, as an Italian, I will say something and is the reality of Italian football… Italy can be the worst team you ever seen or the best defensive/mid team you ever seem.. you never know with this guys, and I think that’s beautiful… 2006 WC no one would have guessed Italy will win the WC, same in 2021 euro as well as in 1998 or 1990 WC that we get eliminated with the best Italian team of all times… with us you never know
my italy starting xi : donnarumma; mancini, scalvini, bastoni; darmian, barella, cristante, dimarco; pellegrini, chiesa; scamacca. difficult to pick the starting gk bcs vicario has been really good with spurs, and to choose the 3rd back, and the pivot next to barella bcs italy lack of holding midfield players rn.
Czechs have been to Two World Cup finals, won the euros, been to a further final and came third twice ha. I wouldnt be talking about them like they're some minnow
I’ve been following Italy since the era of Rivera, Mazzola, Feketi etc, definitely different times now, I’m not that optimistic this time around, Italy always starts slow, if they get their 3 points on game one they will make it out the group, otherwise dead last.
If you don't know, remember that in the last 2 Euros, the defending champions didn't get past the Round of 16. This is another handicap for Italy. They must get better results in the Group of Death. I think Italy will definitely reach the quarterfinal this time.
@@MichaelTalksFootball1 Italy's realistic challenge for that group would be a victory vs Albania, but that wouldn't be easy, too, since Albania had some kind of unpredictable tactic with Sylvinho (even though they will most likely come last in the group). Some Albanian players in Serie A might give Italy a real test. Spain is still a big game, and they will most likely lose if Spain had Rodri. Last, but not least, Croatia, although with aging Modric, didn't lose to Italy right now (both friendlies and major tournaments).
ITALY HAVE TO PLAY WITH CONFIDENCE AND PLAY TO YOUR STRENGTHS, AS WE DO NOT HAVE WORLD CLASS FOOTBALLERS LIKE WE USE TO HAVE OR FORWARDS.WE HAVE NEVER WON ANY TOURNAMENT WITH WORLD CLASS FORWARDS, EXCEPT FOR 1982 WORLD CUP IN SPAIN WHEN ROSSI CAME ALIVE IN THE KNOCK OUT STAGERS, SO IT HAS TO BE A TEAM EFFORT FOR ME, LIKE THE LAST EURO 2020, WHERE WE PRESSED NEARLY EVERY OPPONET AND CONTROLED MOST GAMES, TO WIN THE SEM-IFINAL AND FINAL ON PENALTIES, SO FOR ME MORE OF THE SAME, AS THEN WE COULD GO FAR.
Nice break down. I prefer the starting 11 to be Donnarumma - Dimarco Bastoni Buongiorno Darmian Cambiaso - Jorginho barella - Chiesa Scamacca Pellegrini
If Spalletti does go ahead with a back 3, this lineup could do very well (3421) - Donnarumma; Calafiori, Bastoni, Buongiorno; Dimarco, Jorginho, Barella, Bellanova/Cambiaso; Chiesa, Pellegrini/Fratessi; Scamacca. Personally I would rather see Italy using a 433 because it will getthe best out of many players, starting with with Chiesa - Donnarumma; DiMarco, Bastoni, Buongiourno, Bellanova; Jorginho, Barella, Pellegrini; Chiesa, Scamacca, Orsolini
during the tournament it is likely we will see both modules, depending on the opponents. With the 433 you let yourself be attacked much more than a 3421/352. It depends on how much Spalletti wants to risk it. He didn't have the time that Roberto Mancini had to instill his ideas in the heads of the players, barely drafts... perhaps. I assume that the 4-man defense at the moment is more of an option during the match rather than a 1st minute option
Italy and Germany two of the Top European sides with history that need to reprove their position....Italy probably needs new players to start stepping up... Germany I think has the talent but the chemistry hmmm 🤔 not sure.
With the season Zaniolo had the only people who think he deserves a place are Premier League fans. Orsolini has had a better season, Politano and Chiesa even as they struggled this season have done much better than Zaniolo. It's not exactly a complex exercise to replace Zaniolo.
“They might not be the greatest in World Cups”? Look, judging by what you followed that statement up with it’s clear you get it. Why not just say “Italy in the 21st century has been a mixed bag”. Nuff said. Let’s not get it twisted, even in Italy’s worst era only Spain has won more silverware in the last 20 years. Italy wins two trophies in the last 20, during a shit period…England wins 0 since 1966. Belgium wins 0. Netherlands wins 0. France has arguably been the best national team of the 21st century, Italy’s won the same amount of trophies as them 🤷🏻♂️. And yes it’s awful they’ve not made two WCs in a row. No excuses. But pump the breaks on the hyperbole. Stats still in Italy’s favour.
Ofc as I eluded Italy are one of the greatest international teams in the world but this century other then the 2006 world cup and 2021 euros its been poor and ofc making the final in 2012
@@MichaelTalksFootball1 lol But even how you say “other than a World Cup and a Euro cup win” (not to mention finalists in 2000 and 2012), as if there are a whole bunch of other Nations who’ve won more than 2 trophies in the last 24 years. France, Spain and Italy. That’s it. I think people get carried away with recency bias. Case in point, Italy was called trash going into Euro 2020, and won it. So what most pundits do is ride teams like England, Belgium, Portugal, Croatia, Turkey and now Albania. Why? Because of form and “talent”. But who are you going to bet on in a tournament big game when the chips are down, Italy or that pathetic list? 4 finals in 24 years. England: 2 in 58 years. A pattern emerges if you step back enough. No one rates Italian players, that’s also a massive problem when trying to predict their success. But everyone on Albania is apparently a baller 🤦🏻♂️
England are a better team with more talent Since the last Euros England have been far better Beat Italy home and away, and lost a 50/50 game to France in a World Cup Italy didn’t even qualify for Shame you stopped listening you might have learned something!
I've given up on italian football. How they won the last euro i think was mostly blind luck. The Italian Seria A is over 70% foreign players. Even the B league is mostly foreigners. The italians, their teams, their fans, have simply given up. About the only thing they're any good at anymore is the endless talking, debating, football on their sports programs. And that's because they are very good at talking. Not so much at doing. That didn't used to be the case. Italy, and Italians in generaal, all the way up to the 1980s and 1990s had great grit and determination. The italians of today are mostly wet noodles.
missing Udogie is a massive blow, Dimarco is massively overrated. Either way, keepers and defense are really good. Midfield and strikers on the other hand are weak at the highest level. Barella would have to turn into prime Gullit to make this midfield work Croatia and Spain to advance imho. Portugal, France or England to win it, and Georgia as a dark horse team
@@MichaelTalksFootball1 technically a beast, and would have been a star 20 years ago. not cut out to be an elite modern full/wingback. not enough physical strength and work rate, hes just an extra in out of possession play
How to spot a Premier League fanboy in one instant. Udogie who's had one good season in the 5th ranked team in England and people want him to start ahead of Dimarco, a Serie A winner, CL finalist...
@@oldskoolmusicnostalgia im an "epl fanboy"? news to me. joselu will likely win UCL (and has already bagged LL title), is he better than Kane who literally won nothing? Or Osimhen who wont even finish in european spots? Is Mandzukic (a player with over 20 major trophies) better than Di Natale (whooping 0)? By your flawless logic all of these are true
Donnarumma and Jorginho must be excluded from the Nazionale FOREVER. There are tons of better goalkeepers than Donnarumma in Italy: Vicario, Meret, Provedel, Carnesecchi, Turati. And Jorginho is Italy's black cat, he was part of the 2 latest Italy's non-qualification and he's way too old (33 years this year). So, NO MORE Jorginho in Italian Team ! And I don't want either Acerbi and Darmian, who are now grandparents and need to go to a house of retirement. Spalletti must focus on young players and think about the future: Carnesecchi, Turati, Calafiori, Cambiaso, Buongiorno, Pirola, Colpani, Fabbian, Ruggeri, Scalvini, Miretti, Baldanzi, Pafundi.
Ecuador is good bro they are currently in their golden generation and there are more young players to come like Kendry Paez .They already have Caicedo,Sarmiento,Estupinan,Pacho,Hincapie etc
4-3-3 chiesa scamacca pelegrini fratessi loca barella marco basto calafiori cambiaso donna if 3-4-2-1 scamacca chiesa pele marco loca barella bella cala basto saclvini donna
Do any of you guys that make those silly predictions ever come back later when proved wrong? Or you go hiding in a cave after you enjoyed your little moment of attention? It's like saying the Earth is flat just to provoke a reaction, basically.
Idk what you mean by form: the most recent results in friendlies were far better than those of France or England for example. The qualifiers were a struggle, which is only normal considering a new coach was named midway through and the previous coach (Mancini) had basically thrown in the towel after Euro 2021. Keeping a demotivated Mancini after the failure to qualify for WC 2022 made this team lose an entire year and a half.
Used to be but improved so much lately. You can't count out the fact that he may be on fire right in time for this tournament. It's happened before for Italy with certain players (Toldo, Balotelli, Cassano, Schillaci) who hit their peak right in time for a World Cup or Euro.
The scary thing is if Italy get to the quarters they would play England or Germany. Donnarumma is the best penalty keeper in world football. With the inter block they are defensively tough. Germany is not great and England have Southgate.
I would love for Italy to play Germany in the knockouts this euro and beat them again on their home ground. That semi final in euro 2012 was amazing but nothing beats 2006 world cup semi when Grosso and Del Piero took germany down I still get goosebumps watching that game 18 years later 🇮🇹💪@@ezraezra2928
I like the starting 11 except Jorginho. He was the reason we didn't qualify for the WC. Also I don't think hes that great. I'd prefer Bonaventura, Frattesi or even pessina
Retegui has an excellent goalscoring ratio for Italy so far. He may not score heaps but very useful if used properly. Much rather go into a tournament with him rather than Immobile, Pelle, Zaza and other "stars" we've seen not too long ago.
Incompetent. Saying that Italy doesn't perform in WC disqualifies you from talking about football. 6 finals, 4 WC. Yes, they've been absent from the last WC but you make it sound like they never performed well. Cricket is the sport for you.
Issue with italy is the front 3. What is the best line up. Defense and midfield they have the quality. Alot of inter players should start just based on chemistry they have.
Sadly I don't think Spalletti has what it takes to bring us to performing at our best. He's a good manager, but not suited for a national team. Also I don't see that euro 2020 hunger. Chiesa has really been unlucky, but the kid has immense potential, I think he may be the MVP for Italy for as far as we will go, which most likely won't be further than quarter finals if we want to be very optimistic. I hope I'm completely wrong of course lol
Solid video analysis. Italy in semis against France, then arrivederci. Yes, it's wishful thinking but anything can happen in football especially if you're Italy
If we beat Spain, we can beat everyone. A part maybe France, that would be honestly a hard nut to crack. Spain will be our real test. Let's see what happens.
