The Liberty is a reliable and well-made budget-Scooter that shows Piaggio's tremendous experience with scooters.

In USA we get it as a 150cc for $3000. Seems like a very good deal compared to a Vespa Sprint that is almost twice as expensive. Really enjoy your scooter reviews, well done!

Thanks for the video.. I agree with you on most of your comments, but I strongly disagree with you on the dash.. I like this current dash on this Liberty .. and I would HATE a digital dash!!! Just to repeat for emphasis.. I do NOT like a digital dash!! I guess it is a matter of preference.. I just hope Piaggio keeps this current traditional dash.

If you consider the liberty has the same engine as the Vespa primavera and sprint, it's really good value! I agree it's a shame about the rear drum brake, exactly the same issue as the Vespa.

Great comment! I think the Liberty is a great option at this price point. Many other models still pack a rear drum too such as the D'elight and PCX

@@BikeMatters I actually considered buying a new primavera, but due to the drum brake and 11/12 inch wheels I bought the Honda SH125i. I've done nearly 3000 miles on the SH, and find the larger 16 inch wheels a great help. The brakes are just amazing. I even feel the traction control kick in now and then. I did around 32000 miles on my primavera and came off at reasonably slow speeds 3 times, 2 were my own fault, 1 a drunk driver. All 3 at night during rain. I think the SH would have kept me up all 3 times. Note my vespa is 2014 so no abs and 11 inch wheels. I had to buy my bike unseen thanks to the scamdemic. I could not test ride anything. It was all done on spec and watching reviews, not unlike yours. My choice was helped by a Maltese reviewer paqpaq, who did reviews of all the bikes I considered.

The Medley 125 is more expensive, but offers a lot of important extras : Dual rear shocks, better set, dual disc brakes ( and dual ABS - an option or std ?).....nicer gauge with more readable layout. If I were in UK ( I'm in the US), I would go for the Medley because I'd be riding more for commutes than just fun rides and a few errands

I live in America and driven over 100,000 miles on vespas I am thinking of the liberty 150 now. Price is so good at $ 3000. I love 2011 Vespa 300 gts but the liberty will make me think twice about getting on highways

Nice but here is a few negatives. Fuel tank really hard to top off because of shape of tank. kmph on outside of speedo. Air cooled engine may be a good one but mpg is really only about 80mpg. So you will be topping it up a lot. But the reaL BIGGY problem is that honda do a watercooled 125 mode with better everything but looks for 3050 otr.

I’m running a Vespa Sprint with the same 125cc powertrain. Over the first 600 miles, I’ve averaged 155mpg (U.K. imperial), and the high has been 180mpg - all on the air cooled engine, so no need to worry about coolant etc. I did go for the model with the full digital dash though - so I can only see miles OR kilometres (I can change this in the settings).

Very few Euro scooters still use a rear drum brake because that doesn't allow for the combined brakes required under the new regulations. I guess the Piaggio's front ABS qualifies as ABS brakes even though it's only on the front, bypassing the combined brakes requirement?

@JakeM218
@JakeM218 Год назад
I must admit, I do like the rear drum brake. It’s cable operated and can be adjusted in seconds with an adjustable spanner. It’s extremely simplistic, you get no brake dust near the engine / gearbox and it’s still powerful enough to lock the back wheel if required.

I'm a motorcycle mechanic, and I've just picked a 2022 piaggio liberty 125 abs. It's only got 5,000K on the clock. The owner said that he was riding on a A road when something sharp on the road got flicked up by the front wheel and it managed to pearce the oil filter which mounted under the exhaust on the rhs of the engine. It quickly lost all its oil and the engine ground to a hault. Very much a freak accident, the like of which I've never seen as mechanic before. Poor guy got quoted £2,000 to replace the engine. Bearing in mind new liberty is only £2,700. He decided to buy a new one. I bought the scooter off him and rebuilt the engine at the cost of £100 in parts. I must say that it does show that its a budget scooter. Its no very well built. For instance, the indicator switch doesn't alway work when you switch it to the left side. There is corrosion on the engine casings and other metal parts too. For a scooter with such low mileage and not even a year old, this shows that it's not very well made.

Was that how fast the scooter actually went, or what the speedometer was indicating? Speedos on scooters are notoriously optimistic. I once had a 250 that would do an indicated 90 mph, at which point it was doing a true 72 mph.

We don't record audio straight to the GoPro. We have a separate sound recorder which we place in a jacket pocket and run a lav mic under the jacket and then pop behind the mic itself slightly under cheek pad in the helmet which holds it into place.

There’s quite a difference in 125cc power - even with the same manufacturer. The Piaggio Medley has around 15hp, and this Liberty has 11hp. Think the Hondas have different powers as well. For example the 125cc Grom and Monkey are only 9hp, but think they do more powerful 125cc’s

Pretty sure he's done a vid on getting more out of the 50. He's done vids on servicing the primavera ie belt change, it's pretty much the same on the liberty.
