Euro NCAP Crash Test of Mazda MX-5 2015 

I was in a crash in a MX5 RF. A medium size SUV driver ran through a double stop sign hitting me. The SUV was going, estimated by me, 30 MPH at impact and I was on a 55 MPH highway driving 55 MPH. I hit the brakes at the last instant so call my impact speed at least 45 MPH. My car impacted the SUV's front left wheel assembly. My front air bag went off with initial frontal impact and the MX5 spun sideways contacting the entire side of both vehicles, my driver side, her passenger side, and the side airbag fired. I walked out of the accident with an injured left hand due to a cut, a torn right bicep tendon probably due to stiff arming the steering wheel at impact and a sore neck that resolved itself over time and a sore hip that also resolved it self in due course. The car was totaled. I have a new one.

For a car with no roof structure and its size it is very good.

The structure is fairly good for car of this size, but the side airbags didn't seem to be protecting the occupants' shoulders. Hope Mazda would install a taller/longer side airbags in the seats.

A relatively tall person, when he bends forward, the head touches the top frame of the windshield. So in case of an accident, the head will hit the frame of the windshield before his head and chest are protected by the airbag. It is amazing how many videos are available where the driver’s head is close to the windscreen top frame. The seating position should always be adjusted so the head does not reach the windscreen frame. I was involved in an accident like this in another car and I always adjust my seat accordingly. What does Mazda say about this risk for tall drivers?

That's a hard hit but it looks like the damage is restricted to the exterior body frame.

How tall are the mannequins ? I'm surprised they didn't impact the top of the windshield. That is always my worry in my MX5.

I have seen the report and got 4 stars/5 for safety. The only low star is the safety of pedestrians because the front profile is low enough to injure badly the people

I hit the corner of the cement block building I live in with the drivers side of the car. 2015 Miata convertible. Speed I have no idea, but it could not have been all that fast as I just pulled in. NONE of the air bags went off?!? Allstate totalled the car. All I saw was the D.S. front tire/wheel was knocked sidways. I didn't think about the airbags until days later. I thought at 5 mph, they were suppoised to go off. So, if I didn't hit at 5mph, and the car was totalled, what does this say?
