When I lived in the Netherlands I spent a lot of time camping in Texel. Best place I've been to for birding. They used to close off the breeding areas in the spring, which I didn't like at the time, but of course it's the most sensible thing to do. I'm surprised to see Bee Eaters this far north, I hope they can find enough insects to eat. Thanks for sharing this video. I'm looking forward to the next one. 😀
Thank you! Nice to hear from some foreign birders. Yes for such a small country we have a pretty large national list aproaching 540 species. I wonder if there is a place in Europe with the same sice that has more species recorded. On the other hand all the land is occupied by farmers or cities with some small nature reserves sprinkled in between. Couple of years ago I was in Spain for a birding trip and man what a difference. It's like there is nature everywhere.
@@TheDutchBirder NL looks really good compared to the UK these days. Lots of farmland here, but intensively farmed. Lots of nature reserves but most very localised. We still get a good variety of species each year - just a lot less birds generally - especially on the mainland away from the coastal areas.
