So, after Sint Maarten and Madeira now it´s time for the ultimate Airport: Santos Dumont in Rio de Janeiro. The shortest runway in the world for A319/737-700 (?). The approaches and departures around the Sugar Loaf are amazing. Take Offs are more like a catapult, landings tanke only 10 to 12 seconds. Wondering Swiss101 never tried that in a video. Or maybe I missen that. Landes there two days ago. It was a blast.

I too enjoy this video, Swiss. Tragic what happen to that Boeing 727 back in 1977 and that's why the runway was extended to 9 thousand feet. At the time maybe until now, Madeira Airport is the 9th Most Extreme Airports in History Channel. The reason Madeira Airport is extreme is not just due to it's location but also weather, turbulence, and even seabirds.

ryanair landings pretty good in general. They do firm landings because they are very safe, not because they cant fly the plane.

Awesome video swiss, youve really improved the quality.. One more Thing I would reccomend is just using a maybe 2% or 50% stabilize on the takeoff/landing footage in the cabin, it helps a lot with the shakiness, as well as maybe investing in a camera with good optical stabilization built in, like a sony a7s

The funny thing about Ryanair and Spirit, is that they're both known for their usual stuff, but the thing is Ryanair is european, but only uses american-built Boeing 737s. And Spirit, an american LCC, uses the european Airbus A320 series. Isn't that ironical?

The one time I was flying to Madeira and we had sooo much cross wind but luckily we were flying with such a skilled pilot we had to go around and when we were about to touch down the plane started swerving and we had soo much turbulence but luckily we landsdand are still alive and happy back in south africa 🎉

Yeah I dont think Madeira is all that dangerous. It can be because weather conditions are often very bad there. They for some reason require the captain to land as well, but that is likely just because the terrain is on the left. And you gotta do a 180° turn on many approaches or departures. You know like in Vienna. It can be a bit tricky if it is windy, but if you compare it to e.g. Innsbruck where have mountains towering up to your left and right, madeira is joke in terms of danger.
