It was the A340-300, which has the same body as the A330, exactly the same plane except for the engines and the extra middle gear

Hey there, I discovered your channel a few days ago and this video happened to pop up on my YT feed, and as a person who was born and raised in Saint-Martin (French side), I am truly humbled for you to come all the way from Europe and share to your community this incredible piece of land in the middle of the ocean. I left the island 2 weeks ago to stay a few months in France, and will be coming back home by October this year. Truly, Air France's A330-200 is a very confortable plane and now that Air Caraïbes' A350 does not land in SXM anymore (goes via Guadeloupe), the A330 is the biggest plane that comes to this airport. KLM also uses an A330-200. I miss the days when I was younger and I could witness the 747 and the A340 ! All in all, I found you randomly on RU-vid and now I have become an avid fan. All the best and safe travels ! 🏝☀

I visited SXM in July of 2016. Truly a remarkable sight seeing the KLM 747-400 and the Air France A340-600. It seemed like the whole island would crowd onto Maho beach when the KLM 747 would land. Almost 7 years later I absolutely dream of going back! Saw lots of people get thrown into the sea by jet engines when I was there. Back when Insel Air would fly in with the MD82 they would taxi a little farther out onto the displaced threshold of RWY 10 and the engines would practically be at the edge of the fence (exaggeration). They would just sit there for around a minute or so at full power before releasing the brakes and kick up sand across the entire beach, resulting in lots of people being blown into the water. If one wasn't careful they could absolutely end up twisting an ankle or falling/tripping on the many rocks that line the top of the beach. Great Video! brings back lots of memories from when I was 15 visiting SXM.

I returned from SXM two weeks ago. I had a blast. I couldn't go to the beach everyday but I went to as many times as I could while I was there. It had been so long since I was on a beach. I had a blast! And yes, that airport is something else. Every pilot should try it least once. 😆
