African sculptures, Oceanic ritual masks, Japanese woodblock prints…Today, you can turn to Google to see thousands of pieces of artwork from around the world. However, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, non-Western art just started to make its way to Europe. Works from abroad fascinated European artists with their beautiful aesthetics, subtle color palettes, unique perspectives, and non-traditional subject matters. Their influence was so significant that one could feasibly argue that 20th-century Modernism would not exist without them. In this video, let’s find out how Non-Western art manifested itself in the works of avant-garde European artists.

I today learned about some Russian Avant-garde artists, their works and fresh terms like Suprematism, Constructivism which your channel has not yet covered.😉 Picasso again is said to have strongly influenced Vladimir Evgrapovich Tatlin.. He reinterpreted Cubism, according to Mr. Kim, a great South Korean docent.😚 Amazing Picasso and amazing African masks by which Picasso was greatly affected. .I am not at all familiar with Suprematism, Constructivism etc.. but Avant-garde art is open to interpretation, right? And that's the beauty of Avant-garde art, right?🙂

Another Modern Avant-garde artist often Overlooked is Natalia Sergeevna Goncharova origianally from Russia late in the 19th century.

I like this video and want more on the subject. Specifically, "Art Brut" and the works of Dubuffet and others. Also on that subject, Outsider Art is a fascinating topic. Aboriginal art as well. Thanks for all your wonderful content :)

Cool video, yeah , most of the "modern" art they teach in school is basically a recreation of Japanese Ukio-e and African art. There's so much Ukio-e art. That most western art movements like impressionism, fauvism, and art Nouveau, just to give a few examples , are just different types of Ukio-e styles. The flowery designs with women with exaggerated long hair, for example, is art Nouveau. All the French art Nouveau artists said it was from Japanese Ukio-e. Same with the colors of Fauvism and style of impressionism.

Indeed - Rembrandt created a series of unusually meticulous drawings depicting emperors and courtiers from Mughal India so definitely his inspiration came from there

What a terrible pronunciation of the names! Modigliani doesn`t have G when pronouncing! And it`s so sad, that Russian names can`t be pronounced correctly, I can barely recognize them BTW, the topic is good
