hi alex another great conditions for the eobc but well done to you and your old man always great to see him out with you hope you both do better on day two mate take care 🎣🎣👍
Good effort Lads! this video has made me question my life choices, tbf i want to do it for the crack and the opportunity to natter with anglers from all over,a few of my mates from the Isle of Wight did it this year and had a cracking laugh,so im tagging along next year.
I wasn't going to fish it this year. But having made friends with a lot more people through the channel, and taking my dad, it was a completely different experience this year, and I'll definitely do it again. Matches are a great place to meet folk and learn a load about fishing.
Your first day is just like I’ve fished that comp in past but no weed the locals know where the hotspots are Alex hope you and dad have a better 2nd day 🎣👍🏻
I've fished that coast a lot, but it changes so regularly its almost impossible unless you're there all the time. It has got me thinking though, I might get a bike and cycle to some of the less accessible marks 🤔
Hard going Alex. Thanks for persevering and getting the video out there. Look forward to Day 2. Expecting great things so don't disappoint me now! 😄😄 Great effort. 👍
Nice To have met you at the event again man. Just realised you were fishing the other side of the guy who try to squeeze in. Also hope that guy with the big cast was me haha😅 Was a tough day on that mark with the weed in close
Yeah, great to meet you too, mate. Hope you had a safe trip back. There were some big casters on the beach that day, but you know what they say, size doesn't matter...that's what I've always been told anyway 😳
@@theawfulanglerAh good long trip back. Funny when getting to the port and the van smells so bad they try to do a customs check and just tell you move along 😅
@IrishAnglingAdventures 😂😂 now there's a top tip for when I'm sailing back from Ireland with 100kg of white pudding. Just leave the bait box by the back doors
Eazy Alex you ok pal, that weed is a right bummer. Your old man makes uz chuckle lol. I was watching some body else footage the other day and I saw you sat at the bar . All the best from GRIMSBY
Definitely Kev! I went to sleep expecting tough conditions, got to the beach and thought oh maybe we're on here, then as soon as the clock struck 9am mother nature kicked us square in the 🥜
Definition of insanity/addiction? Horrible conditions, no fish, glad to get back home. Still smiling and will do it again as soon as possible. We're a strange bunch.
I didn't realise that's how it was with match fishing on the coast and having other lads like a few meters next to ya ,lol I'm not surprised that there ends up with people falling out.
It all depends on the match, really. The euros is the most popular match I know of, in UK sea angling. The cliffs on the holderness also wash out so the get downs disappear meaning marks with access can be limited.
@theawfulangler is the prize any good for winning any of the shore fishing matches? I'm guessing its probably a cash prize? How many people usually fish in the euro matches and does it ever take place in European countries??
The bigger the comp the bigger the prize. I think first place this year was around £3k plus some tackle like a rod and reel or something like that. Then there are daily prizes too as its a weekend comp and other mini comps. The guy who won it with a big ray on the Sunday also came first on the Sunday, and won the sunday team event, I think he walked away with about £7k and a load of gear. Not enough to retire like but certainly not a bad weekend
@theawfulangler thanks for replying mate, yeah that doesn't sound bad to me to win a few grand for doing something that you enjoy is well worth it and he won it with only a Ray? So you probably don't need to have loads of knowledge and experience then if one fish won it. Anyone could get one decent smooth hound or conger or something else with a bit of weight. I might look into having a go at it myself. Have you been anywhere out of the UK fishing matches mate? And do lads from Europe come over for our comps, I wonder if anyone has ever tried cheating by having a fish among their gear, for a few grand prize money I wouldn't be surprised if someone had thought about it.
@mattgosling2657 someone was caught cheating in the euros a few years back and hasn't been seen since. The lads take things like that very seriously and there are rules in place to prevent it such as having to have an angler nearby sign to say they witnessed the fish being landed. Anyone can dispute your catch too at which point you have to be able to prove it, most folks do this by having a video of the fish alive with the surroundings in view etc. He won with a 12lb ray, which is a good ray for the holderness at any time, let alone March. The same guy won the year before with an 8lb cod, again a very good fish for the holderness. His local knowledge is key to knowing the marks, conditions, what to fish for based on the tide etc. I fish the holderness a lot and used same tactics as the winner but wrong location it's as easy as that.
It's a shame but with that many people fishing it would be impossible to haan adjudicator near everyone to weigh em as release em fish by fish. Thanks for the information hope you atleast get a feed out of what you catch also I imagine everyone tries to do something with their catch.
@robbieallan6522 Yeah, and with the money that's at stake, it leaves the door open to all sorts of issues. The limits in place would easily get a feed from any fish kept, so nothing goes to waste 😋
@@theawfulangler it's a shame that none of the clubs on the isle of man don't do any shore fishing competitions it's all boat fishing and its very difficult to get a spot even if you're a member. Plus you still have to pay your charter fee on top of entry fee and it's not a huge amount of money at stake if you do well, unfortunately alot of these clubs on the isle of man are clicks and even though it's meant to be open to ANYONE it only seems to be people with money who are members, all of a certain age and rich or self made business men ie pub owners or farmers or building company owners and all age 55 up. It's a very small island
@dazlee3257 oh i know mate, 100yds wouldnt stop you casting over someones line 😉🤣 Imagine when 3 lads turn up and try telling you they're fine at 2 metre gaps 🤣
Really well mate. I'd say it's suited more for mixed/rough ground fishing, as it is a little stiff. So you have to work it a bit more than some in the range. But it is rated up to 8oz + bait.
Hi Alex great video again and the struggles of the day. If your looking for a decent base layer can't recommend Zerofit enough. That and some form of windstopper fleece / body warmer is spot on
