Thank you so much again for reacting to our video!!!!! Thank you for tagging us. We dedicate all our content to immigrants around the world who just want to experience what we did. For us Cubans, it’s a surreal experience to go to a supermarket. And now we are here for a couple years, it’s been a first time experience for many things. Cuba today is much worse than when we left. No electricity for 20 hours a day. Food prices are so inflated… no more meat. It’s really bad. We pray the end of socialism in our country. Free Cuba!!!!!

❤ I felt heartbroken watching this video, I think for similar but also different reasons than I see in comments. The beauty of his reaction is heartwarming. At the same time I felt a knot in my stomach and a deep disgust looking at rows and rows of food, much more than is NEEDED and a lot gets thrown out bc it's not sold before the expiration date. So we see with our eyes in Cuba NOTHING and see in our country full rows of food. And all people can do is blame the government and blame this and that when in reality we should look in the mirror and blame ourselves for those empty shelves and for the starving people of this world. The amount of people who take more than they need in the world because of Greed especially those of us in the west myself included are the problem. The reason why because there is more than enough food in the world for every human being if we stop taking more than we need. It is still possible if enough people from around the world come together and stop being polarized by fear and money and power stop being divided by differences and come together by our similarities because we are all human beings and we all have the same needs. WE have to change our world together or there is no future I see where the humans survive. In democracy or other.

My mom is from Laos which is a communist country. She escaped with her siblings and stayed in a refugee camp in Thailand until she got sponsored to come to the US. She had friends who tried to escape with their children and drowned. I have friends from school who were from Venezuela and saw the same poverty there. They've been helping their family come to the US. We're incredibly blessed here in the US and it's why I'm so passionate about pushing back against those who support socialist, communist and Marxist ideas in our government.

The people in the US that profess support for those types of Government (obviously) do NOT know (or understand) what it really would be like to live under such tyranny. They do not seem to realize that the same freedom that allows their protests would be lost, boggles my mind, sheer lunacy.

After living in the Philippines for a year and seeing homeless children in the street begging for pesos for food (24 pesos to one American dollar), I returned to America and burst into tears upon walking into a store in the mall that contained nothing but clips and bows for little girls to wear in their hair. Each bow cost more than the average Philippino made in a week working as a domestic helper on the U.S. Navy base. We Americans are spoiled and unappreciative. I lived in the Philippines in 1991 and it impacted the rest of my life. I can never take anything for granted ever again, especially food. Seeing this man overwhelmed by American opulence brought tears to my eyes.

I totally agree. It's really sad that so many Americans don't seem to appreciate their own good fortune. I can't stand listening to Americans whine about how tough it is to live in this country because it illustrates just how spoiled we've become as a nation. Even Americans living on the street have plenty of resources available ...they struggle primarily due to mental illness and/or addiction issues.

I've seen secretly filmed video of children in North Korea digging into the dirt to look for bugs to eat, because they were so hungry. It is so sad to know that just a short distance away from where there is so much food that children are starving to death.

Keep reacting to Yoel and Mari; they have great content. The one where he goes to Home Depot is very good because he's familiar with a lot of the tools, and could never get them in Cuba. Their videos make me happy, too, and I have shed a few tears of happiness for him. Safeway is a big regular grocery chain. It's not like a Costco or Super Walmart. My great-grandparents fled from Russia just prior to the upheaval of WW1. They came to the U.S. with their only two living kids out of ELEVEN, a toddler and a baby (my grandpa) and whatever they could fit into two small travel bags. They made their way across the U.S. and settled in Ft. Collins, Colorado where they became farmers. My great-grandma never spoke English, or from what I've heard from older family members, chose not to speak it in the company of others. They forged a new life here, raised a family, made new friends, and died knowing they were able to be successful and live happily in the Land of the Free. Both sets of my grandparents lived thru The Great Depression where they saved everything from bacon grease, to stale bread, to their old clothes. My grandma saved quilts that her mom had made from old clothes and worn out sheets. I still have, and cherish, one of those quilts with fabric in it that's almost 100 years old! They threw nothing away. Our society has become so blasé about tossing things in the garbage just because they don't want or like it anymore. Too many people have forgotten, or were never taught, what "live within your means" is all about. It hurts my heart to see Cubans living, or rather trying to survive, in horrible conditions. I see people in Russia and Ukraine fleeing from a war that they never wanted to fight, and people in N. Korea and other communist countries fighting to find food for just one meal. It damn near drives me insane to see our very own grocery stores tossing out perfectly good produce, bread, canned goods etc...due to their expiration dates passing or a brown spot on one banana in an entire bunch. Expiration dates are a guidline, not a deadline. Our country has become obsessed with ridiculously frivolous lawsuits over the stupidest things to the point that stores are forced to throw away food and lock the trash bins to keep people from pulling the food out of them, all because they might get sued over someone eating something that made them sick. I say let them dumpster dive and make it a law that people can't sue if they got sick from food they willingly took out of a dumpster. I know that sounds harsh, but I'd rather take the chance and have food than go hungry and die of starvation. A lot of people need to take a good hard look at what's a WANT and what's a NEED in life these days! Their priorities have gotten reversed when it comes to that!

My son was on the film crew when Usher went to Cuba as Obama’s music/cultural ambassador. What they saw was 2 different worlds: the one for foreigners to see, and the ‘real’ Cuba. They found citizens had internet access - but only about an hour each week, if they could afford It. They were picked up at the airport by a newer van, but nearly all of the other cars on the roads were 40 -50 years old. It was eye-opening!

My first job was at a food court in a mall. I will always remember the teenager who worked at the Subway next door. He said he came here when he was little with his father and uncle. He told me about how for the first several months they didn't believe it was real. They'd travel on the weekends and go to grocery stores thinking that if they got far enough inland (we were in California) they'd find the "real" America. They were convinced what we had on the coasts had to be for show. It took them months to finally accept that the bounty of food was real and normal.

It is extremely rare in the USA for someone to not eat meat unless they decide to become vegetarian. Even homeless people begging on the side of the road get meat on a regular basis. If they have $20 in their pocket they can walk over to McDonald's or a Waffle House or whatever and get a meal. Or go to a gas station and get some Hunt Brothers fried chicken. It's actually pretty good. I gave a homeless guy $40 yesterday. I know he ate a decent meal somewhere along the line. No digging for bugs or whatever.

safeway is actually amazing in some areas also target was pretty late in entering the grocery side, and their selections are considerably smaller. they used to be purely just a traditional department store before diversifying into that (to avoid losing too much money to the overall decline of that sector), and their small selections reflect that. they do sometimes have things you can't easily find elsewhere, tho. also, kroger's historically been to the eastern us what safeway is to the western us. like, when i lived in wv, one of the krogers there had more food (and a bigger variety of it) than even the nearest walmart supercenter.

Safeway has been around for decades. They are a grocery store or supermaket chain - like Kroger, Piggly Wiggly, etc. They are one of the many that transported that idea to Europe, long before Walmart. However, Walmart has pushed many of them out of business and did not start out carrying groceries. By the way, Costo is not a retail grocerystore, they are a wholesale club that only sell in bulk and you have to pay a yearly fee. Very best regards to you and your family.

Aldi is a European chain that came here a few years ago. I went to one and like you said it was just OK. I didn't recognize any of the brands because they carry European goods. Some people swear by Aldi because you can save a buck. I could only imagine if he saw the meat section in a place like Publix, where I buy my steaks. That's a premium chain. Walmart is much bigger overall and their grocery section is nearly twice that of Publix. But then they have clothing, jewelry, tires, etc.

@@protorhinocerator142 Aldi has been here for several decades and only gotten better. They also have much cleaner processed and non-perishable foods because European regulations don't allow the same chemicals and dyes, and the chocolate and coffee aren't produced by child slaves. I wouldn't try to buy a nice ribeye there or anything, but the meat isn't bad. Chicken, ground beef, sausage, a roast for the crock pot, fajita meat, Aldi has all that stuff at a good price with much less hormones and garbage in it.

Pets in carriages or wagons is not always just excessive behavior. Some are because the pet is elderly, or has a health issue that prevents them from walking but the owner wants them to be able to live life to the fullest, to experience being in the community.

Andre, in America, the smallest non-personal-sized pizzas are 10 inches. A personal pizza is 7 inches. A SMALL pizza is between 8 and 10 inches, but usually 10. A MEDIUM pizza is 12 inches. A LARGE pizza is 14 inches, and a Extra Large is 16 inches.

By American standards, an Aldi is a small to medium grocery store. For large grocery stores, we have chains like Kroger and Safeway. Stores like Wal-Mart, Target and Meijer are technically not grocery stores - they're department stores, which happen to include very large grocery sections. And then the giant places like Costco and Sam's Club are 'warehouse' stores with grocery sections, and they tend to sell things in large bulk quantities (and unlike other stores, warehouse stores require a membership with a small annual fee).

Lived in Gitmo and went to junior high there in the early 70's. The Cuban people are a fine people with a lot of pride. I learned to play guitar from an old Cuban guy who played an amazing classical guitar. The country is a rock covered in cactus, but it's still beautiful. Amazing diving, sailing, and fishing. No one wants to go there(US Navy dependant with my family), but everyone who's been there would love to go back. The Cubans I know in the US are some of the biggest American patriots that I know. They should rise up and take their country back from the dictatorship they live in.

As someone whose family lived under a communist regime, just remember that in the 1950s the previous regime treated the people even worse than the communists. That is why the Cuban people celebrated the communist victory and actually believed for the first decade afterwards that their lives were 100% better. Try to imagine how bad that previous regime must have been that those people could feel that communism was a step up.

Andre, remember that Joel has been living on an Island. Granted it is a reasonably large island, but most things have to be bought and brought in by ship. This limits availability and raises the price. The Lower 48 US has many thousands of miles of roads and rails to truck and freight things over. Also huge tracts of land to grow and process food. Then there is the manufacturing and Tech sectors to hire and pay people who then pay those who grow and handle that food. In Oregon we grow lots of wheat. The farmer uses the machinery to sow, work, and harvest it, clean it, store it. Middle man takes the harvest from several farms by truck, rail, barge, ship to where he can sell it, etc until it gets to table (I think this is where Value Added Tax comes in in Europe) where he sells it. Islands have a problem with putting this together.

I work for Kroger , 45 years come Oct . 26 . Kroger is the Largest grocery store chain in the U.S. ! After Kroger acquires the Albertson's Grocery Store chain they will have pretty much doubled their number of stores . Kroger also has many other stores , under different names . I believe around 18 or more ! Kroger is the only job I've ever had, unless you count my time in the Marines . I started with them at the age of 15 . I've had many different titles in the grocery and perishable departments . Kroger pays well , has great benefits and has always been good to me !!

I have been to Cuba twice in my life, and I'm not surprised because of what I saw when I was there. The first time was the Pan-American game and the second time I was stationed there in the United States army. The people are so friendly but the government treats them like nothing I spent two years in there add made friends like him who was surprised at the little things that he saw an hour military base on his Island Island you need to see when he goes to visit Puerto Rico and realizes that it is not close that he could have been like he is here I still feel like he's at home😊❤❤❤
