Marilyn Montoe pushed Joseph Cotton off the stairs in the movie "Niagara". Good time capsule to the 2950s; like taking row boat to Canada or staying in holiday cabins. Best views are from Canada, but is more built up (touristy), especially Clifton Hill (fun for kids tho). Lived in area for 45 years; a must to take out-of-town visitors (we enjoy it too).

I have just recently started watching video reactions of Europeans reacting to places in America. Watching your awe and admiration of the USA's natural beauty has re-opened my eyes to how lucky we are here, and how lucky we are that the Government has put a system in place to preserve the important natural places for everyone.

As a Canadian who lives 20 minutes from Niagara Falls, they didn’t show a very good range of the falls at all. Respectfully the Canadian Horseshoe Falls is much larger, grander and has the most water velocity coming down the falls. The Canadian side has dozens of hotels, award winning gardens, butterfly conservatory, a ton of restaurants, arcades, speed car racing, haunted houses, clubs, mini golf, The Sky Wheel ride, multiple candy stores, casinos and more… you should do a video on our side! Americans come here all year long.

In Lewiston (15 min away), you can get on the Jet Boat (kinda $$). Cuz of the power, it gets right up to the Falls; whole "ride" is fast & wild. Lived nearby for 55 years & only done twice. 4 stars (5 stars if it was not for price)...do it.

We live on an island about 4 miles south of the Falls on Grand Island. While the view is amazing from the Canadian side, and you can now walk behind the Falls, the US side offers a huge park, hiking trails, picnic tables, and access to stand right next to 3 falls! We go throughout the year. It is awe inspiring.

Born and raised in the central part of the state and always amazed by the beauty of the whole state......rivers, lakes, farmlands, wineries, mountains, snow, etc.. But, we don't have deserts, oh well. I have been under the falls on the Canadian side. It was so fun. You need to learn more about the state and not just NY City. Both parts are great, but so very different!

The view from the Canadian side is the best. Niagara Falls is all the way across the state, several hours drive. The explanation of why "so much water" is that this is the outlet for the Great Lakes.

@@lauranichols945 True, but I think they were referring to how all the water in 4 of the 5 great lakes, Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, and Lake Erie eventually flows out of the end of Lake Erie, into the Niagara River, and eventually over Niagara Falls as that is what is driving the volume of water over the falls themselves.

I live about 20 miles from Niagara Falls, and my favorite spot is near the tip of Goat Island, where there is a pedestrian bridge. From the bridge, if you look upstream, what you see is a lovely, babbling stream in the woods, people might be wading in it. I have a photo of my grandmother from around 1920 wading in the river around that spot. Turn around, and it's the full might of Niagara Falls.

One of my favorite memories is when my 17 year old daughter was with me on a trip to Ontario to pick up a puppy. I had been to the Falls a number of times but had never ridden The Maid of the Mist. There’s a kind of energy around the Falls. It’s exhilarating, somehow cleansing. Maybe it’s because the sheer magnitude of falling water humbles you and takes you out of yourself. I don’t have a scientific explanation but it’s very real. If you go near the Falls, do go experience them. And while the boat trip is expensive, it is so worth it. You’re no longer SEEING Niagara Falls, but part of them. The boat takes you so near you are almost IN the Falls. My lovely daughter, at 17, concerned with appearance and a sort of mildly bored dignity, soaked to the skin, hair and makeup sacrificed to the Falls, eyes glowing, filled with awe, was a beautiful sight. Caution: After the Maid of the Mist ride, you will be all wet. Plan for that. The ride should be called the Maid of the Drenching.

I grew up about 30 miles from the Falls. We used to go there at least once every summer. One year the Army Corps of Engineers stopped the water going over the American Falls. They were going to try to remove some of the rubble from the base of the falls. However, it was deemed to make it too unstable so in the end they did little or nothing. Yes, I saw the dry falls. Even dry, the falls are an incredible sight.

Andre, Niagara Falls are in Buffalo, NY. Buffalo, being the birthplace of Buffalo BBQ sauce. I was there in 1987 as a 12 year old kid. I'm 50 now, but I remember moments from that trip like it was yesterday. That boat trip down into the river part is called "Maid of the Mists" and we rode it as well. There's a running joke on there and it's "Hey you in the blue poncho!" We stayed in a campground on the Canadian side just a few miles up the road from the built up area there.

New York is a big state, your trip will 400 miles over forest and farmland. Last week we flew over the falls at about 10,000’ . Even impressive then. I was there when they turned the American Falls were turned off for rock work, and also when it was frozen. The falls themselves are only 12,000 years old and a product of the last ice ages as are the Great Lakes.

I'm from New York, an hour north of NYC and let me tell you, it's one of the most beautiful places. The Hudson Valley is carved into the Catskill mountains, we have beautiful state parks, ice caves, and the Hudson River to boat on. Go further and you have skiing, hiking, lakes, mountains and waterfalls. NY is so much more than NYC, even if it is a great city. There's a few good videos of Minnewasja State Park, Sam's Point and Awosting Falls that are my go to mountain spot. But the Adirondack Mountains is one of the largest undeveloped woodlands in the US and they are Amazing for hiking, skiing, camping, etc.

American side was very industrial from 1910 to 1970s. Canadian side developed more for site seeing; then got kitchen in 1960s (Clifton Hill). The Falls and associated Parks are beautiful & awe inspiring from both sides. Speaking of power, you can actually tour the power plants. Only 70% of the water goes over the Falls (rest is diverted for electricity. There is talk of having special days to let ALL the water over the escapment. It was made to go dry (rock insprction) in 1969; gonna do it again "soon", but I have forgotten the year.

A great regional Honeymoon there is to stay in Niagara-on-the Lake, Canada (very laid back Victorian village) and take day (or eve) trips to the Falls. NF (both sides) can get VERY crowded & not as romantic. NOTL is also in "wine country". For a recent "milestone" anniversary, we stayed in a historic Vintage Hotel Property (there are 3) & got the romance package, which included carriage ride, tours of 2 wineries & cozy dinners in several restaurants. In summer, they have Shaw Festival (multiple theatres). And of course very easy side trips to the actual Falls (sunset stroll thru the NF Park led to a special nite later on).

I was a military brat so I had lived in multiple places while I was in elementary school but halfway through the second grade when I was around 8 my family was transferred to South Georgia. A lot of the kids in my schools had never even been outside of Georgia before. In my freshman year in high school I was in the marching band and we were invited to march in the Thanksgiving Day parade in Detroit so our director decided to make that the annual trip the band went on every year. So we took a week and first went to Niagara Falls, NY before going into Canada to Toronto for a few days before heading to Detroit for the parade. We had 8 charter buses and a few equipment trucks traveling with us. Once we got to Niagara (after 32 hours traveling) we were let loose to just explore and do whatever we wanted. So here were all these small city southern kids running around! I still don’t know how we made it the whole week without someone getting arrested or just getting into some trouble! But Niagara was cool even though it was in late November so it was frigid. Some of the students didn’t have any winter coats (because you don’t need them in South Georgia typically) and they were running around in jeans jackets! My sister and I had the field coats my dad still had from when he was stationed in northern Michigan and had to be out on the flight line during winter. The Air Force gave them those coats just so they could stay outside on the flight line for more than 10 minutes at a time! So we were fairly warm. In Toronto on the first night we had a private tour of the CN Tower which included the observation deck at the very top. The wind was extremely strong and no matter what you were wearing you couldn’t stay outside on the open air deck for more than about 5 minutes and some of my classmates who had the Jean jackets were absolutely miserable! I felt bad for them but not bad enough to let them use my heavy coat. Anyway, my point was that Niagara is really cool to see in person!

I have been there a few times, first on my wedding honeymoon, and one of those times during the winter where they have lights on the partially frozen falls, it is spectacular! We stayed in a hotel on the Canadian side, every time we went outside, there is a roar in the air from the falls, people that live there get used to it.

I agree New York State is beautiful. We have 4 seasons. It's spectacular in the autumn. We have the Catskill mountains, finger lakes, Letchworth State park has a beautiful gorge. Tons of small towns. Buffalo is on Lake Erie, where we have lots of beaches. New York State is also adjacent to Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence Seaway and Thousand Islands. I should work to promote the State, lol 😂.

I've been to Niagara Falls, Canadian side, and the Maid of the Mist. The falls are beautiful. It's about 400 miles from New York City to Niagara Falls so no, it's not exactly close! I'm from Illinois.

I love Niagara Falls. I've been there four times. I'm a huge lover of being outdoors and beautiful scenery, so to me it's an ideal place. There are times of the year where it can be crowded but I've not experienced that myself. I've also been on the Maid of the Mist a couple times and it's a special view of the falls. I just love it there. I also really love Toronto, Ontario, which is about 128km north of Niagara by road. I would go to Toronto any time I went to Niagara.

On your first trip to America, take two weeks. Fly into Washington DC, spend 2-3 days, drive to New York City, spend a few days, drive to Niagra Falls, one day American side, one day Canadian side. Drive to Philadelphia for the Liberty Bell, then back to Washington DC.

Western New York is like a different planet from NYC. Niagara Falls is about a 20 minute drive North of Buffalo, NY. Buffalo, the population center of the region and 2nd largest city in NY state has fewer than 300,000 people, about half what the population was in the early 1900s. With that being said the Western New York region that Niagara Falls and Buffalo are located in still have 2.6 million people so still a lot of people, just nowhere near nearly 19 million people in the greater NY area and 8+ million in just NYC itself. If you ever travel to check out Niagara Falls allow time to check out Devils Hole State park nearby and then stop down in Buffalo and get some Chicken Wings in the city they were invented in, as well as Beef on Weck and some of the most underrated pizza anywhere. You won't be sorry. If you go in the summer there are tons of great festivals almost every weekend all summer long. Also a lot of great architecture and historical sites around Buffalo and the observation deck at the top of city hall were you can see for miles. Toronto is also relatively close and is an amazing city to check out. A lot of people actually fly into Toronto and then cross into the US at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo or the Bridges crossing near Niagara Falls.

This is why we recommend if you’re coming for a short amount of time pick 1 state and focus on only 1. There’s so much to do and see that if you try to do a lot of diff states you’ll be in a rush and won’t really get to take in what you’re seeing

Back in the mid 90s I lived about half an hour from the Falls. It is an absolute wonder to behold. The Canadian side is better for views and night time is so beautiful. They also have fireworks shows at night during the summer months.

One of the great things about living in America is Niagra Falls. And Monument Valley. And Meteor Crater. And Yosemite. And the Grand Canyon. And Mount Rushmore. And Denali. And the Giant Redwoods. And the list goes on. I gotta tell you, for people who essentially got kicked out of every respectable country on Earth we lucked into some absolutely fantastic great land.

The sad part about the Falls. We'll never she them as they were. Current flow across the falls is a small % of what It used to be. A couple times a years they were letting full flow across the falls to clean out the base of the falls. The power is incredible.
