@@european-reacts This is abit Off topic; it's about the video of Canada compared to the States. The sports of Basketball and Football, were introduced into the States by Canadians. Basketball was introduced around 1880's, Football was introduced by a University team from Montreal. Canada's National SUMMER SPORT is LaCrosse with the Winter sport being Hockey. I'd like to do a Video of Canada's Top 20 inventions which will include that OF Insulin. Yes, I was born and raised in Ontario,Canada. Thanks.😮❤😂🎉❤

I'm a local and probably the most important thing to remember is that the animals, especially the buffalo/bison, are WILD, they are not pets or tame. If you visit, give the buffalo a lot of space as they can move quite fast despite their size. A few years ago, a woman tourist stupidly crept into a herd to take pictures of a calf and its mama. The buffalo charged the woman, snagged the back of her jeans and tossed her around a little before de-pantsing her and running off with the jeans still on its horn. The woman wasn't seriously hurt, probably more embarrassed than anything. But year after year, people are seriously injured and even killed because of getting close to them.

I loved going to see Chief Crazy Horse Mountain years ago, and hope to get out there again as it slowly moves along. I wish the tribe would pursue federal funding to assist in moving it towards completion. When finished, I believe it will be more impressive than MtRushmore, and not enough of our fellow Americans are aware of it or the history of the Chief.

Almost five decades ago, I had to drive from Philadelphia to Seattle. I was a little pushed for time, as I needed to make connections in Seattle to travel to my next Naval duty station in Japan. I would drive 4 hours, stop stretch, get gas and then move on for another 4 hours, etc. On one of the legs of the trip I drove into the parking lot at Mount Rushmore in the early morning hours, and fell asleep in my car seat. Sunrise woke me up, to the most beautiful sight. Directly in front of me, the carvings on Mount Rushmore were bathed in the orange and yellow hues of the sunrise. I was alone in the parking lot, so it felt very special, very personal. I don't know if one can experience that now. Things change as to access to parks, parks and monuments are no longer free, and there are more people.

The Missouri river splits the state in 2. Mount Rushmore is west river. My father is from N. Dakota on the Canadian border. If you get to the USA come to Sioux Falls SD and I will take you west river to the mountain with the presidents faces. It is really beautiful!

I lived in South Dakota for 10 years. I lived in Custer, just 1 mile from gate to State Park. I've done the 5k walk to the top of Crazy Horse monument and stood out on the arm. Now blasting has progressed, and you can no longer do that. The Black Hills are beautiful and not too crowded, accept during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August.

South Dakota resident here. Custer State Park is one of America's greatest State Parks, and better than a few of the National Parks. Needles highway, the wildlife loop road, Iron Mountain road, all 3 are great. On the northern part of the Black Hills is Spearfish Canyon. Badlands National Park about 90 minutes to the east. Devils Tower (Wyoming) about 90 minutes to the northwest.

South Dakotan here. I am from northeast SD, and am a lifelong hunter and fisher. South dakota is underrated for both and we kinda like it that way. Small state, friendly people... very older population in general and very full of mainly hunters, farmers, and fisherman. I'm not from Rapid or West river, but there's alot of places they didn't check out that are super cool, like the badlands, and there's a crazy electro magnetic hot spot area that is a touristy spot now. It's nuts, can't remember what it's called... but I remember being in a cabin and it being level, but if you threw a ball in the air it would fling off to the right for some reason. Weird stuff. Anyway, much love and respect to yall from SD! ❤
@user-qk4ks9vp9q
@user-qk4ks9vp9q Месяц назад
My people are from Pine Ridge and NE (Nebraska). You are absolutely right about SD being an underrated tourist area. I think the winters have a lot to do with that, lol. My mom is from there and even I won't go except May-Sept. I don't know any tourist spots on the East River side of the state, except the Corn Palace, lol. But, West River has lots of lovely places. (Andre, the state is divided roughly in half by the Missouri River. The history, to a degree the type of climate, kinds of agriculture, and culture differ between the two sides of the state.) The Badlands National Park, the Minuteman Missile National Monument, The Journey Museum (Rapid City), The Geology Museum (Rapid), SD Air and Space Museum, the Chapel in the Hills (Rapid), and Bear Butte State Park. In the BlackHills there is: Wind River Cave (this video failed to mention this is where Lakota creation stories say mankind emerged on to this earth), Black Elk Peak, Cathedral Spires, Pe' Sla, Jewel Cave, the hot springs in Hot Springs, Stanford Underground Research Facility (the old Homestake gold mine), Deadwood, High Plains Western Heritage Center, Spearfish Canyon.... Since you're practically there, you may as well visit Toadstool Geological Park, the Oglala Grasslands, and Fort Robinson just over the border in Nebraska. And Devils Tower just off the Wyoming side of the Black Hills. And if powwows are your thing, SD has some great ones. Once you see the bison herds, the landscape and the soddie (Toadstool) and feel the constant wind you'll realize what tough people our ancestors were. Half my ancestors ran buffalo down on horseback and survived winters, where there were just a few cottonwoods between you and wind straight off the North Pole, in a skin tipi. They lived hard lives, loved their families and their God. The other half, walked behind a horse drawn plow and prayed that the government was right when they told them that "rain followed the plow." But wind, dust and a dark soddie were better than being a tenant farmer in the old Country; at least the land was his. They lived hard lives, loved their families and their God. There is a reason for peoples of SD being the ways they are. For the most part you'll find kind people, who love their country and state. Andre if you go, you must try a few local foods. Make friends with one of those fisherman, the local walleye is some good eating. So is pheasant, buffalo and elk. (Don't think you're eating buffalo hunted down from herds in place like the Black Hills. Buffalo are raised commercially for consumption.) You must try chislic, kuchen and kolaches.

Roosevelt is an often overlooked President but one of my personal favorites. He was a Republican and represents as well as anyone outside of Abraham Lincoln what the Republican Party at its core represents. Ignore DC rhetoric, they're playing for the cameras, Republicans in the real sense love our country and its beauty. I'm not a registered Republican but I am Constitutional Conservative, largely vote Republican but are frustrated with the party at the national level. In the state I live in, Idaho, there was a fire in 1910 in the north Panhandle that borders with Canada. It burned 3.5 million acres and destroyed towns. Roosevelt was a preservationist as he loved nature and America's back country, I share that love. That fire turned the political tides and allowed Roosevelt to fund and establish the National Forest Service which as much as any agency has helped preserve the natural beauty of our country.

In the mid 90's a couple friends and I were talking about which firework displays in the towns around are area we would go watch on July 4th. I randomly said, "How about we go watch them at Mount Rushmore?" Suddenly we decided on when we would hit the road. We drove across three states day and night to get there. When we arrived we asked if there would be a fireworks show. They said, "Oh, this is the first time in 50 years there will be a display right here over the monument. Best. Fireworks. Show. Ever.

A quick correction is needed here. Bison are NOT Buffalos. I know the term is used interchangeably quite often, but it's a misnomer that they're the same "species." So how do you tell the difference? Well, two main reasons for one. The first...Buffalo roam in Africa and Asia. Think Water Buffalos in SE Asia. And Africa as well. Bison only roam in North and South America. The second difference is that Bison have large heads. Buffalo have smaller "cow-like" heads.

Yes on Washington. An extraordinary man and our country flat-out wouldn't exist without him. The Black Hills are incredible. Such a contrast to what most people think of S. Dakota as flat prairie farm and ranch-land. These guys didn't even show Needles Highway - the beautiful rock formations. I'm from Minnesota which is next-door to S. Dak. I have taken my horses out to the Black Hills for trail riding and camping. We have camped in the Black Hills, and also at Custer State Park - with the buffalo. I've ridden trails up the back-side of Mt. Rushmore, up to the park and monument itself, and have seen the evening lighting ceremony at the monument which is amazing. Custer State Park is also fabulous. Great for camping - don't pitch your tent in a buffy wallow. Haha --that's the soft spot in the ground where the buffalo all roll in the dust. Yes, especially on horseback, you have to be a bit cautious of the buffalo, but we never had any problems. It's GREAT horse country. At Custer State Park every fall, there is a buffalo round-up where people haze the buffalo herds into a pen complex and sort some to be sold as breeding stock. The numbers in the park are managed that way so they don't become overpopulated and a problem. There are some really cool videos on RU-vid of the fall buffalo roundup if you Google "Custer Buffalo roundup". If you look into North Dakota, be sure to check out Teddy Roosevelt National Park.

Compared to some of the other bloggers I've seen reacted to recently, these guys arent my fave. They spend more time with the camera on them than the scenery. They literally showed nothing at crazy horse other than a quick side shot of the mini monument, didnt see the front. No nature shots driving in and out of the parks. Minimal shots of the viewpoints on the hike or at Mt. Rushmore. The only decent shots we got were of the bison and their burgers. They should be showing us the sights while they talk, not their faces imo. Sure, the occasional face shot is great, I just feel the ratio of faces to scenery is off. I havent seen anyone else mention it so maybe its just me 🤷‍♀️

George Washington was the main general in the Revolutionary war and of cause the first president. When the founding fathers were trying to figure out what to call the first president that thought maybe call him your Majesty, or your Highness, or King and Washington that those were to close to what we had just fought against and that is royalty and he just wanted to be call President just like people that are the head of companies. After serving for 8 years he stepped down. Lesser men would have tried to stay in power but he set the way it has been done ever sense that no man can set himself up as a ruler, or a dictator. Even though I think something evil people would love to stay in power so far they have always left.

They spent a whole week traveling across South Dakota from west to east and made one video for every day they were there. I love the videos that they made about South Dakota and hope that you watch more of them. They're a great introduction to our state. I've lived in South Dakota all my life. It is a beautiful state. As some of the other commenters have noted, the history is ugly at times, and that's unfortunate, but the scenery is beautiful throughout, although it's very different in the eastern part of the state (the Black Hills are in the west). There are actually more state parks in eastern South Dakota, although western South Dakota has the biggest state park. "Buffalo" versus "bison": The correct term for these animals is bison; buffalo are something different. However, in America, we tend to use to the term "buffalo" to refer to bison even though it is technically not correct. I laughed when you said, "If you're from North Dakota, you can pretend to be from South Dakota." No one from North Dakota would do that, and vice versa. There's kind of a rivalry between the two Dakotas. Mostly, we just don't like being confused for one another.

Roosevelt did take a trip sponsored by (I think) the Smithsonian to South America to catalog the animals they encountered and chart some river that was a tributary of the Amazon. I doubt he did any surveying, but he was at least a part of a surveying expedition. He got deathly sick with either yellow fever or malaria (I forget which) and it affected him the rest of his life. No matter where I live (currently Idaho), the Black Hills will always be home in my heart and soul. Wind Cave is gorgeous, too bad it was closed. One other thing they didn't see is the massive herd of wild horses in Custer State Park. Glad they were smart enough not to get out of the car near bison. They are not friendly. I hope they go through the Bad Lands. The colors in the South Dakota Bad Lands are so much brighter than in the North Dakota Bad Lands. However, it was in those in North Dakota where Teddy Rosevelt got the nickname Rough Rider and where he got the idea for national parks.

We visited the Crazy Horse memorial in the late 1990. It was very impressive. I'll have to find a picture from then, and go back to see how it has progressed over 25+ years. My daughter is going to SD in July for a wedding - I shared your video with her :)

Gutzon Borglum started the carving on Stone Mountain Georgia. He lived in my neighborhood while here. In fact, Stone Mountain's carving is larger than Mount Rushmore. It's not as popular because the carving is of 3 Confederate generals. It is in Georgia, after all. While I don't agree with the racism involved, Stone Mountain is worth a look just as a piece of art. It's incredible. They have night laser light shows on the face of the "mountain" (Stone Mountain is a granite outcropping, not a mountain in a typical sense).

The burros are usually over on the east part of the wildlife loop, just south of the State Game Lodge.

I live in Minnesota and we get the smoke from fires both from California and from Canada. One winter a few years ago we had a foot of snow on the ground and something caused a ton of sand to fall from the sky and coated the snow. It was so wild.

17:07 Yeah, it's pretty wild how far smoke can spread. I live on the Maryland border, pretty sure multiple hundreds of miles from the Canada Border? But there was a big fire in Canada a while back and we were getting smoke and smog all the way down here in Souther Pennsylvania. The smoke gets so thick and travels so far.

The smoke from the wildfires gets into the atmosphere and spreads with the currents. Recent fires in Canada turned the sunrise and sunset skies orange from the smoke.

Yes, our weather patterns are usually from west to east, so any smoke will travel across country.

I live in Wyoming. I grew up in Nebraska. I’ve visited South Dakota many times. I love it. Most of South Dakota is farmland and plains, which as a Nebraskan, I appreciate. Wyoming also has a lot of plains. The Black Hills is an amazing corner of the state! The Badlands as well. We have some badlands areas in Wyoming as well. Just not in a park.

As far as wildfire smoke, there is a stream of wind (a river of wind aloft if you will), called the jet stream. The jet stream usually flows over California, sometimes Oregon, or Washington, west to east, and it is almost always over Wyoming, which is part of why Wyoming is so windy (there are a couple more factors as well). The jet stream is also often over South Dakota. The jet stream easily carries smoke from western wildfires to South Dakota.

Andre, as you already know, you nailed it on naming the Presidents on Mt. Rushmore. Then, you nailed it again by putting the right names to the right heads. Good job! Roosevelt was important in starting the National Parks. However, he merely followed the lead of Scottish American John Muir, who campaigned, finagled, badgered many presidents and other dignitaries before it finally came to fruition in Yellowstone. The first animal we/they saw was a pronghorn. Bison are cute like Chewbacca.😀 Many people mistakenly call them buffaloes, but the only ones in the world that are would be Asia's water buffalo, and Africa's Cape buffalo. Yes, granny is a nickname for grandma. 2014? This is an OLD video! Concerning your interest in the Native population here and in Canada, there are still quite a number of tribes around today, but many have no more speakers of their language alive. However, the largest one--Arizona's Navajo (NAV-uh-hoe) is the largest both in members and speakers, with 170,000 still speakers.

It's pretty common to have smoke from wildfires reach across several states even in the west and southwest, where the states are much larger in size. We are in peak fire season here in new mexico. The period between spring and the start of the summer monsoon season is notoriously dry and windy. The skies also get smoky here when there are fires in Texas or Arizona.

There's videos out there about how Mount Rushmore was created. There's original footage of the artist dynamite the mountain to create the initial shapes. And him hanging by a rope and carving the details with drilling and other techniques. It's fascinating to watch. I think you would really enjoy it. Howdy y'all from the Great State of Texas 🇺🇸

If you end up in New York, or have a lay-over, it's worth it to visit Sagamore Hill, Teddy Roosevelt's home. He was a big hunter, so the entire house is filled with "trophies." But the outside is a gingerbread Victorian-style home. You learn a lot about the man if you visit. (Sagamore Hill Natural Historic Site is on Long Island New York and is part of the National Park Service, so that card you can buy to get into several parks might work there, too).

My only critique is I wish you would put your own image into a corner on my computer screen so I can see more of what you're trying to show. Nothing against your beautiful face, but dude, we want to see better what you are showing. Thanks so much, Shane

I'm so jealous! I never got to see bison when I was in South Dakota, but I did see some bighorn! I also went to Crazy Horse, and Mount Rushmore! It was hard for this ol' WV girl, who's never been to far off the farm, to swallow at Mt. Rushmore, as my heart and American pride was up in my throat! My eyes got a little misty as well. I hope I can return there some day! I was so fortunate to get to fly to Washington State, and ride back cross - country back to West Virginia!

On a tour when Friday arrived they put us back on the bus in the evening. We sat in the dark and watched an interesting historic movie. Slowly, slowly as movie continued the mountain was gradually lighted bit by bit. Finally as the movie ends the lights all come on and the audience gasps. It is incredible! If you go, ask about an evening show. President Coolidge Summer White House 1924 is close to or in Custer State Park. Good place for lunch. The Crazy Horse Monument has a superior Native American Museum. Don't miss both.

It's been a long time since I've been to South Dakota. I was only 16 at the time but I remember it well. I wasn't that impressed by Mount Rushmore, partially because we didn't get that close to it, but I do remember being impressed by the natural beauty of the surrounding park and wildlife areas. However, I do remember being completely awestruck by the Badlands National Park. That was an extremely beautiful landscape, I only wish I was able to spend more time there. You can probably do an entire video just on the Badlands alone. I also remember visiting the Corn Palace, a "palace" made of corn, only I don't think it was completely made of corn. Love your videos. Keep em coming.
