That first part of the trip is not from Paris-Nord, but from Brussel-Zuid (Midi). The flyover at the start of the video carries the Eurostar/Thalys/TGV line (96N) over the other tracks, and the line continues to Halle, where it then becomes High Speed Line "L1". It runs to Lille, then ends just before Lille-Europe TGV.
Did you drive this train or did you bribe the driver to let you sit next to him? great video Gary You are such a great video maker thanks and love from us all x
@ccolimon The long tunnel before St Pancras is beneath London. There is a station around 2:14 called Stratford International: station for the 2012 Olympics.
It shows why HS1 was so expensive - and late - compared to LGV - the tunnels. The UK always seems to find the most complicated and expensive way of doing things (Wembley stadium, Crossrail, HS2 etc...etc..)
How long do you actually spend within the channel tunnel - I've travelled on the cargo trains before and remember it being about a 45-55 minute journey but that seemed like it was a lot shorter.
All trains max speed thru the tunnel is 100 MPH (160 KPH). Passenger trains are already at speed when entering the tunnel where as Car/Coach/Truck trains enter at a slower speed due to the vehicle terminals being close to the tunnel entrances hence the longer time in travelling.
I'm a Yank and I made the Brussels to St. Pancras trip one time. Is there a long tunnel just before you pull into St. Pancras? I was trying to figure it out while watching the video. Tks. Great video!!
