I have to agree with the others. I think Valerie McGovern was doing a very apt commentary. I find her commentary quite cute & she didnt impede hearing the song at all. Compared to many other commetators I've heard (including Irish) I think she was really good. & hers seems to be the only piece of extant commentary of 70 that anyone can lay there hands on.
Katja had a marvelous rich voice and a beautiful sole. She gave to UNICEF you know. She lived in a modest house with her daughter and husband. A modest house!!!
The opening bars of Germany's 1970 entry are some of the most stirring in the contest's history. It is unfortunate, then, that the Irish commentator thoughtfully chose this part of the song to talk over. This was the first of Katja Ebstein's three showings for Germany - in which time she never finished lower than third. A personal favourite of mines, this song is one of the few songs that encapsulates the time it was entered in, funky Hammond organ riff and all. Better than Dana, any day.
Katja Ebstein is the undisputed Eurovision diva, imo. Three songs, all classics, all great performances. What a lovely song; I have nothing to add, really, it speaks for itself.
Being Irish I'm biased in favour of Dana and I wouldn't say some other singer deserved to win. But if I'd been on the Dublin jury I would have had a hard time deciding which song I liked best, between Katja, Gianni Morandi, Mary Hopkin and all the others. I miss the old style Eurovision contests!
katja ebstein, die königin des esc. drei mal dabei, drei mal unter den top drei. noch fragen? der esc ändert sich. kompatible, international funktionierende songs werden gelistet. auch ok, aber es wird zum einheitsbrei. jetzt als erstes hat die schweiz einen song gelistet und er ist gut. aber wir haben dezember, der contest ist im mai. ob das reicht? wunder gibt es immer wieder. also….
Kam komplett ohne dumm jauchzende und gröhlende Klaqueure im Publikum aus und wahr trotzdem sehr stimmungsvoll. Musikalisch und vom Arrangement her kommt da keiner von heute dran! Und mit Sicherheit niemals Dieter Bohlen

interessiert natürlich niemanden, aber ich erinner mich so gern zurück wie ich sie mitte der 80er jahre mal bei mc.donalds getroffen habe. das autogramm hab ich immer noch :-)
I love how the Irish commentator (as this is the RTE broadcast I believe) goes into such precise detail on what Katja and her backing singers are wearing! She evidently likes the fashion more than the music..
Dublin 1970 had only 12 countries participating(lowest number since Cannes 1959) so it wasn't exactly an exciting year but had several great entries, this is obviously one of them and in Germany's all time Top 5 too. Its stood the test of time as well and Katja would become a Eurovision legend.
Super Lied von Katja Ebstein und ihrem damaligen Mann Christian Bruhn . Besonders die Orgel und das Timing zwischen Gesang und hochschrauben der Geigen , das hatte schon Klasse . Im übrigen hatte der Text auch wenn er vielleicht für manchen kitschig ist doch vielen geholfen auf ein Wunder in der Liebe zu hoffen . ❤️

It's been more than two years since I heard this song for the first time, and I now absolutely love it. Such a hopeful, inspiring tune performed wonderfully by the timeless Katja Ebstein. A superb entry from Germany that could well have won it in another year.

Katja war immer eine super Live-Sängerin. Dazu ist sie auch noch ein so warmherziger Mensch mit einer langen Karriere. Selbst ihr Musical-Versuch mit "Chicago" in Berlin war klasse.
Thanks to both of you for explaining this out - you were right (it's still a pity that the intro is kind of lost this way, though). And, for the record, our ERT didn't start broadcasting in colour until the late 70s-early 80s - and I remember my family's first color TV being bought circa '84-'85 (with our B&W set still hanging around until the early 90s!)
