I can't understand why the National Juries failed to give the top votes to this beatiful meaningful song Mallemolen. The music was right with haunting melody, the Performer with a lovely voice with Back Up singers and most of all the relevance of the song to our lives. For a lot of my generation, this was the winning song of ESC 1977 and will remain in our hearts. Ici le vote de jury japonnais Pay Bas douze points!
Heddy Lester deserved to win. Ik hou van de Mallemolen, een fantastisch liedje uit Nederland ! Heddy Lester had a beautiful voice at that time !👍👏🧡💙💜🇲🇫
12 Puntos.
This song actually grows on me. When I first heard the song in 1977, I was only 13 and found it very boring indeed. Now more than 30 years later, I really liked this song especially now I know what its lyrics mean and I find the melody very nice as well. Isn't it strange to see how taste changes as one grows older.
Well Done: apart from "merry-go-round" or "carousel" being better translation than "whirligig" you have the gist very well. Here the next verse: Once on the merry-go-round of life, At first you may be a little scared, Someone will hold on to you, Until you can do it on your own, Fear of the merry-go-round never lasts long.
...and the last verse: And the peoples life (on the) merry-go-round, Continues until you become dizzy, But you will still hold on tight, if you no longer like it, because (life) away from the merry-go-round is unknown. It's a delightful song, a real Dutch classic; Can't understand how it came 12th; one of the best eurovision songs ever.
@samboxed This song is much superior than the winning song. The lyrics, the melody and performance were simply great. This was overlooked by the Juries.
Yeah the dress is awful. The song is great though. I love the lyrics, these are so true. A pity that most Europeans can't understand the lyrics, otherwise it might have gotten a better rating. Thanks for all your comments European brothers! Greetings from the Netherlands.
A nice song about never wavering in front of situations that might seem frightening at first, nicely metaphored as the 'carousel'. Still, what is up with that dress?! I can feel my eyes burning as I'm looking at it!
