She's an absolute legand in Croatia. It's like sending their version of Madonna to Eurovision. For me the best Croatian Eurovision entrant and there best result to date!
Absolutely awesome performance and just a brilliant song. If I remember correctly some other countries tried to get it disqualified and I believe the EBU did deduct some points from Croatia but they were later reinstated. Definitely ranks in my Eurovision all time top 10.
2X2, Maria Magdalena was also the title of Austria's 1993 entry and Doris sang my favourite entry in 1986 'zeljo moja' for Yugoslavia. Totally glad you like it. Interesting note: in 1999 there was no orchestra for the first time so a new rule was introduced that backing tracks could not contain any vocals including ooh's and aah's. Croatia broke this rule and got docked 30% of their score, this was in order to decide the entrants for the 2000 contest. At the time there was a relegation system in place.
Exactly. Tonči Huljić f*ed up with arrangement, cause on stage there was only one back vocalist, even though she could have had 4 more. It should have been landslide win if it wasn't for that.
Proud to say I recommended this one! Glad you loved it! I think the best way to describe it would be 'epic'. Definitely the most memorable song of '99 for me. She also represented Yugoslavia (which Croatia was part of) in 1986 with the song "Željo moja" ("My desire") and the song is an evergreen in the Balkans.
@@JordanDavisEurovision The 1986 one was a lovely ballad. I actually prefer the official video version of it as Doris looks incredibly classy in it. She was/still is one of the most beloved female singers in ex-Yu countries (Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo).
