I love the stock faux political video that goes along with the song, it fits so well, it reminds me of when pepsi tried to sell sugar water with protest.

I love eurovision, thats how I fuond this channel, but if they cant see the fun and the (valid) criticism then I gotta upvote and share this, I thought the song was hillarious.

When all in life seems meaningless, I guess I can live with these two guidelines: "This above all: to thine own self be true" and "I can stand for a friend".

Nice dissection of the "European" Average Song there (I've seen the complete video). Liked and subscribed .-) I actually tried to get into the ESC in 1999 (or was it 2000, can't remember) with a song so made up of clichés it almost passed the national selections. Titled "Sì" ("Yes" - talk about a catchphrase), in a moment where divorces were around 50% in my region (yay for social commentary), and sporting some of the best "whooshing sounds" - distorted power chords over a nuclear explosion, actually -, suspensions, ear candy, high-pitched chorus, unexpected bridge and resolution, heart-stopping, erm, stops, it was at a time beautiful and horrible. Another really awful song (by a supposedly "pretty" old lady) was chosen, and finally it got exactly 0 points, I mean, not a single Swiss crossed the border to Italy, France or Germany to send a fake vote for Granny XD. The winners that year had a song much similar to mine, at least in structure and in "mood", and they were middle-aged plain guys, so I actually would have had a chance there. I was content with that, and never tried to do it again.

I don't care what you say, this is a legit bop (80s mode holla), gimme more of these banal, mundane pop song because you do them so well.

I love how this song is actually good. To be a good parody of something you need to also be a good version of that thing.

Why is this better than the UK's actual entries

As I've said elsewhere, you absolutely should submit it as Ireland's entry to Eurovision 2019. If nothing else, it's instant lulz for those in the know ... and maybe for those who don't know about this particular case but could get the joke on the fly so to speak. This would be the one and only time I would *ever* consider participating in voting (if I can ... which I don't think I can as a US citizen). And this would be the easiest million you've ever made. Just set up your publishing in the Netherlands for that lovely tax shelter and you're good to go =D

Not because it is good but because I am having a mid-life crisis and I am thinking back with regret about how I took years of piano and guitar lessons as a kid, learned something about music and then abandoned it in favor of being a computer nerd. "you should have done both... They are not incompatible!" Yeah but I didn't anyway, now as I enter this new phase of my life I want a hobby but I feel sheepish that I know I suck but listening to this garbage that is nevertheless totally on the nose about cliches in Pop music... I feel way better about my limits and understand that there are only a few geniuses and I don't have to be one to have a hobby! Thanks, snarky Irish dude!!!

Very Aeolian. I actually rather liked that, except for the underlying layer of depression that's running underneath it throughout. Rather like a pretty flower garden built on top of a toxic waste pit. I'm guessing the earlier video you mentioned may have put it in a different context. As it stands, it sounds like an attempt by a severely-depressed person to write an "uplifting" song. Addendum, a few hours later: I finally found that other video. Ok, now I understand some of the weird quirks (unnecessary vocal trill, unnecessary bit of auto-tuning, bizarre word choices in lyrics, etc): it's essentially satire. Doesn't really explain the sense of depression I was feeling from it, but perhaps that's just your disdain of Eurovision showing through. :-)
