AWS from Hungary was my absolute favorite in 2018! I became a big fan and have been listening to their music ever since. I am still in the mourning from the lead singer Örs for passing away. Such a tragedy... He was such a talent in conveying emotion. I don't speak a word of Hungary, but I could feel what he was singing about. Eternal love for Örs, wherever he is now.

To be fair, I watch this show because people from America have such fresh reactions about something slightly different from what they are used to see in US. And I love it ❤

Some fun facts about the guy from Sweden: The guy representing Sweden, Benjamin Ingrosso, is from 2 very famous families here in Sweden, his moms side is famous for mostly musical theater and acting but his mom is also a singer and his sister a blogger/influencer and on his dad's side they are mostly dancers and his first cousin is Sebastian Ingrosso from Swedish House Mafia. Benjamin was also in musicals when he was younger and won our version of Dancing with the stars/Strictly come dancing called Let's Dance at age 16 so he really has music and preforming in his blood.

It’s a shame you couldn’t get the live version of the UK, her recovery and the adrenaline does actually make it much more powerful I think, especially considering the theme of the song. Isaura is actually the song writer of the portuguese song and joined claudia on stage because she didn't want anyone else to sing the backup vocals since the song is about her dad grandma

so regarding Italy's song: Non mi avete fatto niente means "you haven't done anything to me" talks about war and terrorism, the beginning of the song calls out all the terrorist attacks that happened recently, la rambla from spain, the concert in France, etc. And is all about being strong against this kind of attacks, the importance of humanity, and the diversity of humanity and mother earth. How despite all they've done attacking us, they haven't won anything, they haven't done anything, they haven't taken anything from us and there's more beyond their useless wars.

The opening song is Fado, a staple of Portuguese culture so yeah, it does sound "extremely portuguese" :P - You have not experienced life until you've visited Lisbon and spent the night in one of those Fado restaurants where you just go and experience food and music and shut up for an hour bathed in candlelight and lulled by one of these gorgeous voices that just take you elsewhere even if you don't understand the language. Crap I need to go to Lisbon again.

I think Ieva's raspy-ish singing voice works for the song, as it makes her sound more genuine than if she was singing in a clear, polished voice. Though I can see why people wouldn't like her voice.

This year was the studio cut year. I LOVE the studio cuts from 2018, but honestly a lot of them disappointed on stage by comparison. It was a major step up from 2017 IMO but really I think 2019 and 2021 have been far better years.

It takes a few listens to get into many songs, so I don't blame them for not liking some of my favourites. But I wish it were acknowledged more in the fandom in general, that there's a difference between first impression and final judgment; that there's room for growth. So glad they liked Finland and Ireland though 🎉

I really like Ukraine(it's my number 10 overall that year counting in song from both the semifinal and the finale). I agree that it can be kinda difficult to hear what he is singing a lot of the time, because he doesn't have the best diction, but I love the theme of the song, the vibe, the tone of his voice, and the lyrics when you read them and/or listen to the song several times. I agree that Norway could have had a bit better lyrics, but he makes up for it with a fun, catchy song, and I like the way it's staged. I agree that Sweden reminds me too of Michael Jackson or Justin Timberlake, and Denmark is kinda like a musical theatre number a la if Vikings or Game of Thrones did one. Yeah The Netherlands and Italy was really cool, They were in my top 5, and I liked, that they appriciated Estonia, even if it wasn't there kinda of music(I font listen to much opera myself, but Estonia was my favorite of the Finale that year, when my number 1 Greece didn't make it). I'm not much into the winner or the runner up myself, but I can see, why they placed like they did.

2018 was great year for ESC I like many songs, they were so original.

There are more than 200 comments but in case no one said it: The couple from Spain was a couple in real life, since half a year before Eurovision, and then broke up but after Eurovision. They just never kissed in public because she didn't like it. There were other couples like France who didn't kiss because the song didn't call for it and Lithuania who had her husband up there with her in a love song and all and they still didn't kiss.

Overall a pretty good Eurovision year IMO
