I'm German, but this is BY FAR our best entry (except for our winners) yet. I also have it in first place, but really not because it's my country, I just think it's the best song (it's still on the radio every day here, which I'm glad about)
Definitely the best year quality wise compared to it's predecessor and successor. My top 10: 1. Lithuania: not gonna lie, didnt think much of it on first listen but it grew consistently reaching third before the contest and then after that amazing performance it only went up. Gives me chills, very sincere and heartfelt. 2. Italy: A really close second, I feel like I'm even underrating it. Also wasn't a first listen song, but they did a fantastic performance and the music and lyrics are equally fantastic. 3. Estonia: also incredible, love it's music and her voice is just other worldly. Impeccable performance as well 4. Greece: Now this was my winner before the contest, but obviously it's performance was subpar and led to it falling significantly. Still a song with fantastic music and lyrics. 5. Cyprus: This wasn't near my top 10 before the contest, but obviously Eleni was the best pop performer of the year and made it so much better 6. Israel: my pre contest 2nd, still really like it but I've overheard it and the performance wasn't 100% satisfying 7. Germany: very moving and easy to listen to. Another very emotional performance 8. Serbia: always a fan of balkan folk songs, this isn't an exception. Very special and weirdly catchy 9. Hungary: not usually a fan of metal but I like this one cause it has a melody. Another great performance 10. Denmark: took me a while to like it and though its really catchy I still think they could've done more I also enjoy France, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Belgium and Russia was and is my guilty pleasure.

i can only speak for myself but i hate sweden 2018 because of that creepy checking out movement he does at the camera lol i dont want to be flirted with by some dude on tv the song is chill i guess but that just ruins it for me lol Also i think youre the only one who does these lists as objectively as possible, everyone else (including me) just says what they like and dont like so thats nice my top 10: 10. Finland (spirit in the sky reminds me LOT of this song tbh but i like this song more (you can excute me now lmao)) 9. Ukraine (yea i have no idea what hes singing but vampire vibes always get u top 10 in my list) 8. Albania (i made fun of the clapping part when it was live but the song is actually really good and one of the few songs i still listen to a lot) 7. Montenegro (i love the language and its so pleasant) 6. France (used to be 2. but its not anymore idk why tbh) 5. Latvia (i didnt care about it at first but oof its so good) 4. I only wholeheartedly disagree with you on Estonia. You don't always touch my taste, but I have to say that your ESC 2018 ranking is better than most 2018 ranking videos that Ive seen. Personally, I liked Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Cyprus, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, Israel, Ireland, Italy, France, Albania, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Australia, Malta, Okay songs were UK, Greece, Ukraine, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, Portugal, Serbia, Romania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Latvia, Belgium, (and still okay, but rather meeh than the other okay songs) Germany, Georgia, Switzerland, Hungary and Moldova. Trashy songs were Iceland, Macedonia, San Marino, Poland, Montenegro, Russia and Belarus. But everyone's entitled to their own opinions.
At numbers 40 to 30 I was like, why are these all so low these are really good entries and then I realised that almost every entry was crazy good last year, but I have to agree Germany is my favourite, I actually listen to it so often I kinda forgot it was a eurovision entry. I can answer why most people dislike Sweden 2018,its got mostly nothing to do with the song itself and everything to do with the fact this is the thing Sweden has send every year, an overproduced pop song with sleek dance moves, and now the fans want to see something different but the juries still give them tons of points. Like this was good, but should it have beaten for example both Germany and Italy in the jury votes.
Oh and for the juries, I really wonder what is going to happen when they send something different than standard pop... as for now, I think they get many points because their entries are really professional, but I would like to see what happens if they send something a la D Mol or AWS haha, I can imagine the juries still being biased towards them (or at least the Dutch jury seems to be a bit obsessed with Sweden and Australia each year)
@@pinkeurovisionflowers572 I get what you mean, I think it is time to change up the jury system so some countries can't get this big of an adventage anymore
One of few years, when i was satisfied with the winner(last time it was 2012).But Cyprus could be the great winner too(i agree with you, staging made this song better,Eleni is just great performer). Others songs i like are Hungary and Albania(oh,i am happy, that these types of song are not dead in Eurovision😊). Anyway, cool year! Waiting for your ranking of 2019 :)
I'm not that into metal, but everyone's got their own opinion. And I don't say, their song was bad, but it just isn't my style. But there were also many entries that year that I found much worse. Oh, and last year i also found out, that a member of AWS has died. RIP
I loved 2018! I still listen to a lot of songs from this year. My all time favorite is Ireland, enjoy that song so much! I agree with you on your top 10! So many cool songs
2018 is my favorite ESC year for a reason. Not only that it has so many great songs, but they are also very diverse and colorful. Any of the following could've been my winner if asked: Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, Italy, France, Estonia, Montenegro (yes, I actually find it underrated), as well as excellent songs from Czechia, Denmark, Portugal, Austria, Ireland, Bulgaria, and more. I would've been the happiest if Germany or Austria won on the evening, but between two front-runners, I definitely prefer Cyprus by a lot. It's a solid ethno-bop, made ten times better by Eleni's performance. She owned the stage like Ani Lorak or Helena Paparizou did before her. I'm not sure if I'd be into Fuego if any other singer handled it, but this way, it's excellent. And then we have Israel... hmm... I'm still unsure how to feel about it. I respect it's originality, but it's neither musically my style, or lyrically nuanced enough. I congratulate Netta, whom I find to be a very likable person, but in a year this good, the winner should've been someone else.... Just not Finland, as I find it even less compelling than Israel. And who was the worst... clearly Russia. I feel sorry for Julia, but these vocals were so painful. I hope she returns with a better song in Russian.
i do agree with you most of the time, my whole top 3 is in your top 10 ^^ and you're right, belgium and greece destroyed their own chances with the boring performances... i loved franka's though
My favourite song from esc 2018 islight me up not because I'm from poland (it's fact) but It's my favourite song from this esc edition. Very good song and gromee and his hand moves are the best xd. But best song from eurovision is DAMDARAAMDARAAMDARAAAM ANYONE I WANT TO BE Roksana Węgiel! I know it's junior eurovision but still eurovision 😁
