At number 24 in my top 37 of Eurovision 2024's contest entries is Finland, represented by Windows95man with "No Rules".
We're into our third of five Nordic countries in the countdown - last year's runner up and public vote winner - Finland. Finland's entry last year, "Cha Cha Cha" by Käärijä was one of the biggest ever public vote winners, but it was not enough to overcome the jury deficit. Had it been public vote only, it would have been Finland's second win, after "Hard Rock Hallelujah" in 2006, which of course, was public vote only. Their entry this year, Windows95man, won the ticket to Malmö from the public vote in the national final, rather than the juries. Can Finland again get a big public vote behind them?

About the winner of UMK, the jury favourite was kind of a Loreen style of "popballad" and I don't think the Finnish public votes for a ballad type of song anymore, Finland has never been popular or talked about when sending ballads. Nowadays it's always the more out there songs in the UMK that catches the attenion of those Finnish people who votes. The song NO RULES is not so easy to understand because ( my opinion) there is so many levels in it. Windows95man is also an artist as you said, and many artist have the ability to see the societies more deeply than common people. I have been hearing or watching the ESC since 1961 and in my opinion the songs in ESC are not very good this year. But the text in this song NO RULES paid my attention and it is good and specially the words "No Rules, it's how I live, How I find the wind beneath my wings, It's how I learned to fly" made me to feel this song very peculiar and even magic. The world is for the moment so evil so I also feel this song as a CRY for a better world. Grüße aus Deutschland

I read an opinion that while those lyrics have meaning they are also intentionally drawing on typical 90s lyrics about wings and flight to add to the fun.

Yeah going to finland to watch eurovision (with my friend who was at UMK and was not inpressed that this song got ahead of Sara Siipola) as you said it is a televote heavy song but will be at best single figures with the Jurys. As for my opinion of the song.... well I really dont like it. Maybe on the night it will grow on me but at this time I am a bit miffed that Finland chose this song.
