As a bloke of fifty who grew up with Eurthmics, it's so beautiful to see younger people relating to these timeless tracks. Go Empress and check out some more Eurythmics :o)
❄️💙❄️ Never has one woman’s struggle with depression given the world SO many BRILLIANT pop songs. Annie is just an all time GIANT in terms of both writing and those deep soul vocals. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, she’s the greatest white soul singer the world has ever been blessed with. Annie seems much happier and more contented these days. In fact she’s seemed that way since the late 90s, when the pressures of fame eased a bit and she did her own thing more in her own time. I think also as we age, if we work at it, we often get better at managing our mental health. Though I’m so grateful for artists who use their complex life experience to bring us such wonders. Art is magical in its ability to turn pain into beauty. This song was like the voice of my teen angst and it has grown up with me to be as relevant and profound in my adult life, in the times when somebody (or sometimes a whole world of people) have placed (and REplaced) that familiar chill. You’re right of course, this is from Savage. All the characters are here, all the split aspects of Annie’s perspective on femaleness. I particularly love how at the end of the video, when she “just wants someone to hold”, the someone she finds is anonymous, faceless. I think that’s a really strong choice to not ground it in romance or give away any of her power. She keeps her individuality and just expresses a need to rest in someone. And as dated as those home telephone handsets are, the line about climbing through the telephone couldn’t be more relevant today for social media and split identities. I copied and pasted part of this comment from Patreon, where I’d watched this reaction while it was in YT jail. I scrolled for aaages to find it. Got me wishing Patreon had a search function for us to find specific reactions (or does it and I’m being a dumdum?)… Also quick Patreon questions: What’s the difference between YT jail and YT probation? I assume probation means it’s closer to arriving here on RU-vid? Do you think all your reactions stuck on Patreon will eventually be allowed on RU-vid? I much prefer commenting here so that it’s part of a bigger conversation.
Yeah, the collection of videos from this album....such a cool conceptual art piece from these masters of visual presentation. I especially love the profound lyrics in the verses of this song. Empress, surprised you didn't shout out Annie's adlibs at the end! "Gimme two times gimme two times...yeah!"
This song is my childhood and remember to his sound and how this song was so fire to listen to debut of end. My mother played so much the greatest hits of Eurythmics when i was young in the vacation in the car. So many good memories of this song.
...Youuuuuuu....SAVAGE...... -ssssssss-.... ***EURYTHMICS TRIVIA TIME!!!*** ...... - "You Placed A Chill..." was the (U.S.) 2nd single from the Duo's BEST Album, "Savage"; Annie was going thru a nasty breakup, and Dave was off in Paris producing...He created some tracks, and Annie wrote some bleak, mean, stinging lyrics, re-igniting the Duo.... - The 1st Single (the weird, minimalist "Beethoven (I Love To Listen To)" made heads SCRATCH, and the 3rd single (the 1st in the U.S.), "I Need A Man" was rockin' but...the Drag Marilyn Monroe character Annie played FREAKED People out.... - ..In the U.S., "You Placed..." was quietly released, and bombed Spring, 1988; The Video collection for the "Savage" Album (where there was a Video for every Song), is REVERED amongst Eurythmics fans, and remains un-issued, to this DAY.... - This Video shows Annie, shaking off the "personalities" that existed in her head, after she finds True Love....the Man is the Video, was her new Boyfriend / soon-to -be Husband / soon-to be- EX-Husband.... - This Album LITERALLY was way ahead of it's time, with grungy 90's images, 90's h-roin-chic stylings, Tori Amos-esque lyrical vibes, and concept Art that would influence Madonna's "SEX' Book....It's my FAVORITE Album, that I have FIVE copies!! 🤫
I have LOVED this song since I first heard them sing it at Live Aid. I just looked up the date and Live Aid was 38 years ago next week. OMG. I was a teenager watching Live Aid all day in my parents bedroom because they had the biggest TV in the house. #goodmemories
Check out “Love Song for a Vampire”. Annie Lennox did it for Bram Stokers Dracula movie. It’s one of the most beautiful songs by her. We had it good back then. Music was so iconic and unique. This song is off the Lp Savage. Coincidentally it’s the first CD i would ever own.
HI Empress, yes you have it exactly. The two characters are from the Beethoven video. Eurythmics made a whole video album for Savage, in which these two characters featured heavily. I think you also reacted to the album track Savage, which features the blonde character.
I find myself surprised every time I listen to Eurythmics. I know they are good and I have many of their cd's, but I still rarely listen to them. But when I hear them I can't stop bobbing to their songs. I need to listen more to Eurythmics..
Hey homie! I haven't heard this song in a long time. And yes, this is from the Savage album where the Beethoven song is from and they also made a video album of the same name too.
I couldn’t figure out what you were saying at the end of the video so I put on captions. Captions said “if you have diarrhea place a like on the video.” Ok fine the 8 year old in mr found this very funny!
