Eurythmics perform the title track from their album Savage at the launch party for their video album of the same name. annielennoxsing... www.annielennox... davestewart.com/
Savage is an incredible album. I remember the critics didn't like it and they also complained about this launch party. They chose to launch it this way because this was the first time they didn't tour to promote an album. They had toured the world non-stop from 1982-1986 and I think they needed a break from it. Dave and Annie chose to record a bleak album which took them back to their experimental roots after the massive global success of the more commercial Revenge album. Annie's voice was at it's peak around this time and she looked INCREDIBLE. I have happy memories of this album.
I love Savage and We Too Are One the best. I know Dave & Annie don't like We Too Are One but I thought it was incredible. They were arguing when they recorded that album so they try to erase it from memory - even taking off all the singles on the revised Greatest Hits.
I really hope Annie does one last album of original songs. She says she may retire now but her last album, Nostalgia, was absolutely awful - her worst by far. I would like to see her fully embrace a pop style similar to when Cher finally embraced pop with her Believe album. She could achieve a big hit album and singles if she did.
Peter Schofield There are no standout singles on _Savage_, and that's the hardest thing to accept about the record since Eurythmics were one of the best singles bands of the '80s. Stewart and Lennox appeared to be intentionally alienating their American followers towards the end of the decade. _Be Yourself Tonight_ is doubtlessly the best rock/pop album from the 1980s by *anyone*!
Dave and Annie admit they put lots of guitars on Revenge to prove they could crack the US. Then they said they wanted to go back to their experimental roots and that was why Savage was made. I never understood why Beethoven was a single. I think they were just trying to prove they could release whatever they liked and the record company would support them.
I'm gonna say it openly- I would pay very good money to see Eurythmics do a tour of this album and other gems from their catalogue that were rarely played live (if ever!).
Savage was the best Eurythmics album and this live version of the title track is stunning. This really should have been a single instead of the dull I Need A Man. An underappreciated classic.
So agree!! "I need a man" was good if not novel and ironic. "Savage" should have been a single as should have been "Heaven" though it is lyrically sparse the remixes could have made it a club hit! This live version of "Savage" is "Heaven"!
Saw them 1989, Chicago Theater, 7th row, left center. They teased this as a set-piece opener. You have placed a chill: "Don't cut me down" literally melted my knees out from under me. The way she...entices, inflames an audience, then pushes back, because it's NOT ENOUGH. My word: no words to describe. Rapture? Sure.
Savage, This city never sleeps, The Walk, The album 1984 for the love of bigh brother, Aqua, No love, no hate no.. (broken hearts).. Who in his right mind would want to choose? :) I love you like a ball and chain.. Don't ask me why.. (with their best video).. Those are my fav songs by Eurythmics.
the release date of savage is still to happen. simply because it is an album years ahead of any other. the production values are just transcendent. raw. polished. electric. dynamic.
When you are feeling very sad and on the verge of crying but you realize your the most beautiful goddess princess of a extremely large magical fairytale kingdom!
Thank You for uploading this great performance of the title song off my favorite Eurythmics album, its such a masterpiece of great song writing, particularly this song !!! I Love It !!!
Got this on VHS in the loft when I used to tape all Eurythmics performances. This was an extra special one. I wonder if this was the only time Savage was performed live?
+Peter Cross I think it was performed live once before at a gig at The Town & Country Club at a warm up gig ahead of their performance at the Nelson Mandela Concert.
