Dave Stewart is a underrated musical genius combined with the sensational Annie Lennox makes a strange magic. The only crime is that this song wasn't a bigger hit!!
Dave is a genius producer, yes - but I am sure in the context of Eurythmics, both of them are a very, very solid sum of its parts. Neither of them would have "existed" without the other one, I guess. At worst, Eurythmics definitely continues to hang like an albatross around both their necks... But, I, too, am confident that without Annie, Eurythmics wouldn't have ever become as striking as we dearly remember and love them for - there is just this totally unexplainable charisma about Annie, that a small list of her female contemporaries can match - listening to Eurythmics and some of Annie's earlier solo material all these years, her voice is literally blessing those songs... The soothing sound of it, the energy and the hysterics... as effortless as it is balanced and eccentric. And as much as I am not into her post-Medusa solo material, Annie still provokes my curiosity on how she'd approach a song... As for Dave - with all due respect - but his solo music and side-projects, away from the golden-era Eurythmics, are in most cases downright dull. Of course, his creative choices are his own but I really don't remember much, barely a few pieces, especially those released under his own name that remotely stood out to be as striking as those that Annie made on her own. That said, I need not explain which one I personally prefer more - "Lily Was Here" or "Love Song For a Vampire" :)

Holy fuck this just hit me ......this amazing song is THIRTY years old .....back in1984 I was listening to mum and dads 50s/60s/70s compilations as well as keeping in touch with what was going on at the time as much as a 10 year old can (TOTP , that was it back then apart from radio 1)nowadays I normally say I feel old ...but after listening to this nirvana I would change that to long may great music continue. Another 80’s dance classic! Annie Lenox is a soul queen love her voice and presence. An incredible artist & performer. Fabulous human being too. Of course there would be no eurythmics without the musical wizard Dave Stewart. He says in VH1 storytellers that some of the iconic synth sounds they created were born from curiosity & discovery. Happy accidents random sounds? Gary numan said something similar. These musical innovators shaped the 80’s but companies like Roland, Korg, moog, Yamaha and many more provided the instruments & platform.
@@ericgyoung & @pellicano joseph: the Yazoo - 'Don't Go' (re-mix/re-re-mix) may have been the best 12" vinyl single to-date, but Annie & David were a team that few came close to matching in the 1980's - or since.
Annie Lennox is from Scotland but Dave Stewart is from Sunderland [North East England]. Chris Rea is from Middlesbrough. The Animals, Brian Johnson(AC/DC) and Dire Straights are from Newcastle. They all sounded American to me as a kid so I was shocked when I learned they all came from within 25 miles of where I live :D
I’m discovering more and more great stuff about the 1980’s now. I was born in July 78 so most of my formative years were in the 80’s but I barely remember any of it clearly. So it’s great having stuff like this to show me how it really was. They say the 80’s was the decade that taste forgot, or was that the 70’s ? Anyway people are very rude about the 1980’s but it was a fantastic time to grow up, despite the lingering prospect of mutual nuclear ☢️ destruction still hanging over our heads from the 1960’s
This song came out in my Sophomore year of high school. Eurythmics were really new back then so all we'd heard at this point was Sweet Dreams. We were blown away by the 1984 movie's soundtrack (all written/performed by Eurythmics). Great remix BTW.
How had you not heard the four hits singles between Sweet Dreams and Sexcrime? Love Is a Stranger, Here Comes the Rain Again, Who's That Girl? and Right By Your Side? You couldn't have missed Here Comes the Rain Again. It was played constantly and is still played today.
Although commissioned for the film, most of their material was not used. It was a little scandal at the time, with most people thinking all the Eurythmics tracks should have been used in the film.

Great song. And probably the most important book written in the last 100 years. Frighteningly, it's as pertinent as ever. Sandra Newman's brilliant 'Julia' is the story told from the female perspective. Really hope they make a movie of it.
Yeah, I've owned this on 12" LP for many years now. Dave and Annie having provided a large amount of non-album content in the pre-digital age, I tried to collect what I could find. Now days, it's easy to just find that kind of stuff here on YT. At one point, my brother stumbled across a cassette of the 1984 album and bought it and gave it to me, thinking I might not have it. I did, but having the tape kicking around led me to listen it a lot more than I otherwise have. Now, this particular version of the title track was not on that tape, but I think I already was very well familiar with it by that time.
Not sure if that was an original remix, it felt a bit choppy in some places. But nice to finally hear an extended 1984 after wanting to hear one for about 40 years..
There were A LOT OF VERY BAD THINGS going on in the brutal 1980's. The year 1984 in particular. Thank goodness for music of this quality, dignity and class.
