In this video we take Diamondback Cover's Ford F-150 Lightning out on an adventure. The Lightning (and all EVs) are pretty awesome - but definitely come with some shortcomings. I spent a few days with Diamondback's Ford Lightning and absolutely love driving it - but wouldn't want to take it on any super long trips (due to charging / range limitations). Electric trucks are pretty wild, and are definitely the future in some capacity. I'm looking forward to embracing that new technology, but for ease of use, gas is still definitely king.

I'm an F150 guy, owned a bunch of them and I think that the Lightning is the first useful electric vehicle that's been built to date. A family of 4 with a home can actually have an electric vehicle that isn't just a commuter. Having said that, I wouldn't currently buy one if I was choosing between a gas or electric F150. Great video Mike! Nice to see someone putting a Lightning through it's paces off road.

Clearly as anyone with half a brain knows, this is a charging speed and infrastructure issue. I am not against EV's but I am against forcing people into them before the infrastructure is ready for prime time. Also, lithium mining is a dirty business. These vehicles are not environmentally friendly. Coal fired power plants also account for most of the power in Tennessee still so that's strike 2. All I want is honesty in this debate and honesty is a harder commodity than getting lithium or clean electricity these days.

@@SasukeUchiha-zu6dw I agree. The Tacoma does have the insanely huge aftermarket, but I think the Ranger is overlooked by too many. The 10 speed transmission is pretty great, and the power/torque of the 2.3 turbo is really nice.

@@SasukeUchiha-zu6dw the next Gen does look good, but for some reason I like the 2019-2022 ranger better as far as the exterior goes. My dad was shocked when I told him that my Ranger is rated for like 400lbs less than his 2017 F150, I think the transmission is what really dictates that. And the box frame.

I love EVs especially where I live in Denver they are practical day to day. But I can’t throw that much money into something that if the world goes for a turn I can’t stack gas tanks for 1500 miles of travel if I had to leave for any reason. That’s my only issue. And my sequoia will do that every time.

EVs are not ready for Prime Time. Got a F150 Lightening for EMS work and just doesn't get it done with the added weight, using it as a mobile office, added lights, light bar. Chargers are slow. Definately not a way too go.

I'm not with EV's yet. The infrastructure and technology just isn't there yet. Currently, they're good for around town, short commutes at best IMO. There definitely shouldn't be forced conversion to full EV, which seems to be the trend with states banning the sale of internal combustion engines by year X and manufacturers going EV only by year X. The future of automobiles will be interesting.

No EV truck for me. A daily commuter car...maybe. I have read too many reports of testing the Ford Lightning doing "truck things" like hauling and towing to fall for the hype. As soon as you use it as a truck, your range drops horribly.

If you drive cross country, you need to plan your trip better to hit fast charges. You shouldn't be hitting slow chargers

@@garym51124 Tesla so far is the really the only good way to get cross country. The gps will automatically plan for you to stop at fast charging stations along the way and do everything for you

From a driving experience, EVs are pretty cool. If "saving the environment" is the reason for using an EV, think again. How is that power generated? All you're doing is displacing the location of pollution, not the pollution itself. In fact, because of the increased demand for supplying energy for EVs, the opposite of reducing pollution is the result. And then there's the infrastructure issue. Fun to drive, but not quite ready for prime time.
