EVA Unit-01 Anatomy - Why it is NOT a Mecha Robot Like You Think! Its Disturbing Creation Story & Real Reason for Existing - Neon Genesis Explained! #neongenesis #neongenesisevangelion #anime #animecharacter
Why wouldn’t that make it a mech Gundam has several machines that contain the souls of people and Ideon is literally a god but it’s still a mecha why are Eva’s any different
@@spinoo5393 "Mecha" and "Robot" are NOT the same word... Mecha is a giant MACHINE that has a pilot, or controller(Mazinger, Gundam, Eva). Robots can be giant machines, but with no pilot, using "software code" instead.(androids/drones)
I have watched NGE and will argue everyday that Evangelion are mecha. In fact, Evas are no less mechas than Guymelefs from The Vision of Escaflowne, LFO's from Eureka Seven, Franxx from Darling in the Franxx, or Kiryu from Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla. A more acurate term might be biomecha. These constructs have mechanical and biological elements that act as a vehicle for a pilot, usually featuring some form of internal cockpit.
I always interpreted them as biomechanical androids, like they’d synthetically grown a body from angel stuff and augmented it with mechanical components. I’m commenting this as I pass the 2 min mark of the video, I’ve watched NGE since like 2000 and loved the rebuild series but I realised upon seeing the title of the video I wasn’t actually positive my interpretation of what was happening in the show is correct.
correct and you could even say the titan forms are biomecha the whole point is that they're biomechanical entities that due to what's been done typically require a pilot@@ryanwalters1682
well in my opinion i would say yes and no, mecha is such a vast term that group so much shit. nothing wrong with calling a thing that look like giant robot a mecha i think, a big fat 70% of people that watched nge when it's aired were just tourist that didn't need to learn term like bio-mecha or real-mecha...
As someone who didn't finish the enemy because of certain stuff pertaining to the clone of Cindy's mom. Or rather clones. I don't really mind a recap, however I did come for the anatomy. But since Ava unit 01 has two cores, would it still be able to function if it's original core was destroyed as long as the second one is still intact?

@@quantumblauthor7300 Because the plot is still interesting, I'm too poor, busy, and Zoomer brained to actually watch tv shows 😅... unless something is audio only i really dont have time for it, for context, i listened to this video, and i probably should go to be instead of writing this comment
the creator himself said "yeah, they are mechas" the evas are mostly synthetic, they aren't alive or anything, they use N2 cores, those are indeed cloned, but all of the muscles and "bones" are metal alloys and other man-made materials
@@troloinkto The creator of the gif format tried to tell the world that it's pronounced JIF, that doesn't mean he's right. I love Anno but he's wrong here. If I created a wooden chair and told you it was a banana would you agree with me?
Ok so basically the Eva are cloned gods without souls. Like wise requiring two closely linked mortal souls (doesn’t really need to be a mother and child combo but that does insure a close connection) to operate.
Yep, except the first evas have another soul, (Eva 00 it's a fragmented lilith's soul (cause rei II has part of Lilith soul and when Eva 00 and rei Made the kaboom, Lilith soul was complete in rei III), Eva 01 is yui ikari's soul, Eva 02 is part of asuka's mom soul) but from Eva 03 to Eva 13 they have no soul
No. The angels are not gods. They are representing aspects of creation. In the case of Adam and Lilith, that’s Creation and Knowledge. However, should two Angels of different origin (or fruit as it’s called in the anime iirc) merge, that would create a being akin to a god.
I wanna correct: all EVA units can regenerate unless their core suffered critical damage or is destroyed. Damaged EVA units usually get cloned material grafted which is then absorbed (similar to what unit 02 does with the angel) to speed up the regeneration.
@@SuperGoose42 I didn't have to watch it that many times they put it in your face. You just gotta pay attention... If you paid for the Blu-rays, you can pay attention.
Fun fact about the LCL liquid for anyone who hasn't watched: LCL is artificial placenta fluid. The stuff we grow in while our umbilical connection provides sustenance and oxygen. Also, If anyone want's to know the entire reason behind the series in a nutshell, I'll "spoil" below. It was one giant cosmic trucking disaster. The Angels were the recovery crew. They don't care about humanity because we were the result of the two types of cargo (Adams and Lilims) dropping off together when only one must inhabit their respective destinations. We're basically a toxic spill.
Never forget, Shinji got deeper into his mother than his father ever did..... The desire to force humanity into a collective consciousness It's horrifying. That's the Bullshit ending they came up with for The 100 series..
It’s amazing how complex the story is behind this anime. Simply trying to follow the timelines that weave through all the iterations is enough to make your head explode.
It’s a giant cybernetic life form with mechanical controls for a human to operate this thing. I honestly would rather suffer the Wing Gundam ZERO’s future sight hallucinations than have to operate something that can go berserk and basically run on its own and absorb the pilot at random.
By episode 2 you've seen an angel with gills and an eva regenerate an eye, if you get the impression that any of them is a mecha you're probably scrolling social media on your phone while the anime plays unattended
I graduated in 2000 from HS. I was a loner kid, dad was murdered when I was young he was a fighter fighter but flawed. I was the only kid with access to some money when I turned 18 than norman kids, wasnt rich but I could get a vehicle. My dad rode bikes and it was the only way to get to know him was experience the things he did. So I got a Honda CBR 600cc 1999 model last of the carbureted models. Would ride 3 towns away in DFW TX to a anime video store renting VHS's. Got to know the owner and I was a unusual kid, got along with adults better than people my own age. He would let me rent twice the limit so I could get through half a show in one visit 😅. Would jump on to my sport bike after school with my backpack and speed 120mph 100mi up to the video store and speed back home to chill. Was awesome time.
@@Hawk7886 I was good to start but the 929rr later was a few pounds heavier but a lot more power. Great torque bike. But was out shown a year later by the GSX750 then gsx1000.
@@Hawk7886 ya two got totaled, one from a construction site not following code on Knocking out curbs durning construction. To keep large debris from doing what happened to me and litter the road with 1 ft round mud pies all over a 45mph long curved bend. On tires that still had the wax on them. Was ruled not at fault. I rode under the bike for about 5 car lengths with my hip and head grinding across the curb. Ironically the one that was supposed to be knocked out too. I experienced 2 weeks of retrograde amnesia. And a broken arm. After I healed up and it was time to cut the cast off they couldn't fit me in for another 2 weeks. I went into the kitchen got some scissors and utensils, then went out to the garage and grab some more stuff. I already had my next f4 on pre-order sitting at the dealership waiting for its Rider. Mind you I just got my memories back too. And I was cutting off a cast by hand. And tell my mom to take me up to the dealership. You can imagine that conversation. 🙄 I don't give up I don't give in.
I really hope we get something new regarding Evangelion be it one more movie after the 3rd one, or something, anything. Watched it many times over the years, and each time notice something new. Just a timeless piece of art.
I watched this series absolutely tripping my mind out on shrooms episodes felt like hours each an were very intense. But even then from the beginning I knew they were angels or whatever before it was revealed, I mean it was kinda obvious how else you going fight another angel lol. Ohh when they all became one and turning to goo and shinji was in his mind going through ego death sent me down a spiral of just … well idk how to explain it really but it was my worst trip but it was also what made that trip so awesome. Since then it’s been my #1 anime and watched it several more times micro dosing watching it.
An umbilical cable is a cable that supply’s something from an external source to whatever it is attached to. Say a diving suit being supplied oxygen from the ship it is attached to as an example
I visited my friend's house and watched Evangelion together. His mom watched along with us. ''So, they submerged the pilot and inserted him inside the EVA. Is this pregnancy? Is his mom somehow trapped inside an EVA?'' ''Mom! We just barely get into episode 3.'' ''Hey! I gave birth to you. Mom knows the best.'' Well, that was typical South East Asian family dynamic.
@@melissaharris3389 Actually, it was his mom saying that. At first, I didn't believe Eva is a metaphor of pregnancy until she pointed that out. Moms are scary
I thought it was pretty obvious throughout the series that Yui's soul remained inside of Unit-01. that's why every time Shinji's life was in danger, her protective instincts would trigger the berserk mode of Unit-01.
Cyborg would be adding on to the eva. The armor is there to restrict them. If you put knights armor on a jacked dude so he cant lift as much is he considered a cyborg?
@@BrysonWood-dn5hl We also call people getting implants cyborgs, so if the knights armor is cybernetic, well yeah we absolutely would call him that. The cybernetic part is what makes it a Cyborg, that's what the word means.
@@Valentfrey It absolutely does though, who are you to dictate what a whole genre defining term means? We've called way more biological things mecha before. It has long since transcended the pure literal meaning of "mechanical".
I always figured, due to key words and what you are shown, that the Eva units were living things. I figured modified "Angel" DNA and then they were crippled and put under control using Cybernetics. At least, that was my thought. Somehow I missed that the Soul of the Mother was in that thing.
Just bought the entire series the other day in a collectors edition. Watched little bits and clips of fight scenes and couldn’t figure out the name till my brother showed me a full scene. I can’t wait to watch it.
10:16 Adam did not give birth to the first ancestrial race, he gave birth to the other angels. The first Ancestral Race planned for earth to become colonized by Adams offspring, you are correct on that part. The first ancestrial race created the seeds of life (adam and lilith, capable of creating life, but each with their own fruit (the fruit of life for angels and the fruit of knowledge for humanity), some sources suggesting up to 7 seeds of life, each meant for different planets. The combination of two seeds of life (or their offspring) with each having the two different fruits of life/knowledge would create a god, capable of triggering an "impact". Lilith crash landing on earth, which presumably created the moon, is the first impact, as it causes Adam to use its own spear to deactivate itself, as Lilith's spear got lost in the landing.
From what i know, combining an Adam with a Lilith would create the forbidden union and a new ancestral, (that was the imaginary Eva, the one misato's dad predicted) and used to make the final impact in rebuild of Evangelion, so the ancestrals created the spear of longinus and cassius to stop that
@@darksould0471 that's why i'm talking about the imaginary eva, remember that this Eva is from the anti universe, and that Eva was just activated with the fusion of the Spears of longinus and cassius, so, the most logical origin for that eva is that is the original forbidden union, and do You remember what happened at the end of Evangelion 2.0? Eva 01 (a Lilith clone) fused with zeruel's core and in that moment the third impact began, just like in neon genesis, also, remember that all Evangelion is a time loop, kaworu remembers every single timeline, even Shinji after talking with gendo and helping asuka remembers the other timelines, (when he talks with kaworu, they are in the same place where Shinji and kaworu met in neon genesis, Shinji said "i remember i met You here") so it should be the Same cause its a time loop
@@darksould0471 and that is right, i never said that You were wrong, but again, Evangelion still has confusing parts, like why Mari Iscariote became younger (cause she had the Same age as yui ikari when they both went to college) and it's Nice to debate this things
I bought the box set of this years and years ago, watched it multiple times but never put this all together about his mom and Rei. Did you have to read the manga to get the full picture or was I just not paying attention well enough?
It's all in the series. It's one of those shows that you have to pay attention to every conversation. But just about all the mysteries are explained in some detail throughout. Which includes a lot of the clues from the first episode.
I got in evangelion last year, and all I can say is once you watch the first 25 episodes, plus the Manga, then all 3 rebuild movie the film gets you to look inward and I gotta say this show changed me from a cry baby like shinji to a person who understands pain and lose and to find better ways to think about life
I've never seen someone lay out the aspects of this series so plainly. After I watched Eva in 2008 for the first time, I tried to find explanations and they were all convoluted pseudo psychology
When the pilot "inverses" controls and uses "backdoor code: the beast", the EVA's limiters are disengaged- causing the EVA to enter its "bestial form". (Mentioned in Evangelion 2.22 and 3.33). This also removes the five minute power limit, so the EVAs can already generate their own limitless energy without the consumption of a S2 engine- however- the risk to the pilot's mind skyrockets.
1 mistake, when the evas goes to beast mode they still loose their energy, after Mari took shinji out, the Eva 02 shut down, the only way an Eva has unlimited energy is with a perfect s2 organ, only Eva series and Eva 01 after chapter 19 (and all the Marks cause those Eva are just fragments of Adam) have perfect s2 organs
I would say the EVAs have more in common with something like a T-800 than something like a Gundam. Just in reverse, a living organism with a metal exoskeleton.
It has autonomy because the soul of shnjis mom is in eva unit 01 so when shnji couldn't handle tthe fights his mother would take control of 01 to protect shnji like any mother should
I will say that this is very good explanation I believe you would've done a better job if you had added lore from the rebuildes that goes in more depth into this which would had added another 20 or even 30 min video if you had use all the Eva's anatomy from Eva-Unit00 to Eva-Unit13
It always struck me how cruel and savage Unit 01 could be when Shinji is threatened. Yui always seemed like a calm and sweet and caring mother and she probably was, but Unit 01 shows that inside Yui's soul is a terrible monster that would annihilate the world to protect her son. In a way i feel bad for Gendo. He was ready to sacrifice the entire human race and the identity of our species as a whole just to be with his wife again l. Yui was his entire world even after Shinji was born but Shinji was Yui's world. She'd sacrifice Gendo in the blink of an eye to give her son a meaningful future.
I think you made an error, the primojentor race wasn't born from Adam. They made them both seperatly. We don't actually know if they had any relation to there creations at all. They just assumed stick Adam and Lilith together would give them power on par with them, because they are basically a doomsday cult.
Misato outright calls it an "Artificial Human". Nobody in the series ever actually calls it a robot. The only people who call it a robot are anime-fans who haven't actually watched Evangelion (I don't blame them, there are a lot of other "classics" that I've never watched and don't intend to watch), or people who didn't pay attention.
People say it’s a robot to make it easier to explain everyone that’s watched nge knows it’s a replica of Lilith with the pilots mothers soul implanted in side of it with cool purple armour on that are limiters to its power. This is not accounting to the rebuild witch the armour is just a mecha suit for the pilot because it’s never explained or mentioned for unit 01 in rebuild. Please fact check me on anything I’m wrong about
I know the AT field stands for Absolute Terror….but I also think that’s a NERV cover story. I truly believe it stands for Anti Thesis field, as it is a projection of the Soul.
Rei never had a soul because she was a hybrid clone of lillith and shinjis mother, just like unit 00 was a clone of adam and souless, no soul to be compatable with
I've been telling people since the beginning that eva's aren't mechs. They're giant being encased in armor installed with a cockpit so people can control them. They do not rely on mechanical parts in order to move.
More like Gurran Laggan, same peeps work on both series and same companies ^.^ this one took years to dysipher, AT field. Anti Terror Field, the activation of your emotion, and chi yes, chi the Chinese concept of life. Doesn't life begin when we stop fearing it. They used children born during the event of 2nd impact, Shinji and all his classmates where children born during 2nd impact. And unit 01 is special, so is Unit 02, they used a broken psychi though. Don't wanna spoil it, same as Shinji's, but his ma was of sound mind.
