what an absolutely pointless comparison. no shit a fan isnt going to cool the air more than an evaporative cooler. FANS DONT COOL THE AIR AT ALL. that's not physically possible nor is it their intended function. this is like comparing a boat to a car based on which one floats the best.
It's a perfectly fair comparison, you just don't understand how an evaporative cooler works. Neither of these devices are cooling the room. An indoor evaporative cooler like this will make the air directly in front of it cooler, but the heat generated from evaporation is literally gong back into the same room. So only the thing it's blowing on will be cooler. A normal desk fan works in the exact same way, only you, the sweaty hot human being, are the cooling pad. Air blows on to you, sweat evaporates off of your skin, and you feel cooler. Perceived coolness is what is important in these devices, so the comparison is very fair. An outdoor evaporative cooler that would be mounted to your roof or elsewhere allows the evaporation and heat exchange to happen outside, then specifically deposits only the cool air into your house. Similar function, but different setup for a vastly different outcome.
It would be worthwhile to note the inherent limitations to this unit. A unit like this would function wonderfully in a dry environment, but its performance seriously deteriorates as relative humidity climbs and approaches 70-80%. This is the result of the process it uses to cool the air which also creates the humidoty- that is evaporation. On muggy summer days unless efforts are made to mitigate humidity in the ambient conditions it is operating in this will return to simply being a really, really expensive fan.
Nice job, but I think a comparison between personal air conditioners would be more useful . We all know what to expect from a a typical fan. I need help choosing the best personal air conditioner.
Doesn't the Evapolar take time to cool the air? Like air conditioning - it takes a while to cool down the room. If you held the cool measure thing in front of the Evapolar for 3-5 minutes I think you would get a cooler reading than the instant reading you took. I hope this makes sense, it's the best I can explain it. Would love to know your thoughts on this please.
The Evapolar evaCHILL Portable Air Conditioner offers a cool immediate space, but the gas tank lasts only 3-4 hours on high speed. Changing water 4-6 times a day can be inconvenient. It effectively cools within 5-8 feet, but not an entire room. If water replacement was easier, it would deserve 5 stars.
Toy. Once the humidity in the room increases its useless and doesn't evorpate water anymore. How much water it evaporates in one hour is its cooling power but dependant on room RH%
It would be nice if I can just pull up the handle to use. The directions says slide the handle backwards and pull up however I can not lift it up. Bummer.
I think it's one of those situations where you have to find the sweet spot. It shouldn't be like that, but unfortunately this does happen with manufacturer's moulds. Once you find the sweet spot it becomes easier every time. You might be being too gentle with it as well? I do this all the time. Someone comes along who either has experience with one of these fans or doesn't know about the issue and just DOES IT....TA DA! Gets me every time! Hope that helps.
I hear that AC’s emit gases that are bad for the environment. I’m confused because nothing says that some AC’s are ok. Since this portable AC only needs electric and water, is this completely safe?
It's an evaporative cooler. It is not an air conditioner. The name seems to be deceptive. If you live in a humid environment, like I do in Aus, this device is literally useless, as the air is often too humid to allow for evaporative coolers to work.
