Announcement: Evapolar did send me the evaChill unit for review purposes. I did not receive any compensation for this review and my opinion reflects how I feel about the product. I think it’s important that viewers know where these devices come so they can take that into account when listening to the review

Sometimes you find the perfect product at the perfect time. As I’m writing this, we’re 2 weeks into a heatwave that’s seen temperatures in the low to high 90F (above 30C) with a relative humidity of 60-80%. It’s hot. Silly hot. Stupid hot.
In weather like this, it’s tempting to run your air conditioning all day long to attempt to fit the heat, but there’s a cost to that. It’s well known that raising your thermostat by a degree or two in the summer can result in substantial savings, but is it really worth it if you feel like you’re slowly cooking in your house?
The evaPolar evaChill really addressed this problem for me. This device which can be powered by a USB plug (or even by just plugging it into your laptop! ) creates a microclimate which is a few degrees cooler in the space directly in front where ever you point it. ie. If it’s on your desk and pointed at you, the air around you will be a couple of degrees cooler than the rest of the house. Pretty great, no?
Although the evaChill does allow you to focus on the area around you, it’s definitely not going to work to cool down even a small room. In my testing it’s definitely helped to keep my AC bill down for the last couple of weeks as I was able to raise the desired temperature on my thermostat by a couple of degrees. Although I haven’t calculated the exact savings, I definitely feel like I would see a difference in the bill at the end of the month if I decided to dig into it.
This isn’t a perfect solution though. The evaChill which is an evaporative solution is going to add humidity into your air. If you live where it’s hot and dry, this might be a great product for you, but if you happen to live where it’s hot and humid, this product is going to be less effective for you. In addition to the fact that it’s going to be less effective at higher humidity levels, you may also be introducing high humidity as an issue you need to deal with. It’s not a huge problem as you canlook at a dehumidifier to balance out your space. But again, something to be aware of.
The other thing to be aware of is that the evaChill does require a filter which is recommended to be replaced every 6-8 months. For those of us who experience a “real” winter, this means that you’ll probably be having to look at filter a year. Although this isn’t a huge cost at approx $30 USD, it’s something to take into account if you’re planning on using this device for a few years.
One of the other things which I do want to point out is the evaChill uses no harsh chemicals. No freon of other chemicals to worry about here and no compressors to make a lot of noise. That means you can definitely use this on your desk and not worry about the sounds disturbing you.
Bottom line: If it’s hot where you are and you want to cool the space around you, the evaChill is a great low-cost, low-energy, eco-friendly option. Just be aware that you might also have to invest in a dehumidifier.

I don’t think you could run it on full as you’d probably run out of water but guessing you could probably run it at a lower fan speed for 10 hours. It’s Winter here so mine is currently in storage until summer starts again.
