I cannot express my gratitude well enough. Your videos are concise and easy to follow, which makes subjects that are poorly covered in lectures interesting again. Grateful for all of your work! Keep it up :)

😊Thanks so much for the encouraging feedback. It’s wonderful to read how the videos are helping you - really appreciate the kind words. If I may ask, what course, and at what level are you studying? More videos to come 👍

@@BearitinMIND I am currently taking my Bachelors in Psychology in Norway :) Your videos have helped me prepare for my exams in the introductory Cognitive Psychology course and a course detailing the history of Psychology. They are both, as you know, large and detailed subjects, so having central elements bite-sized in your videos make them much easier to digest.

@@Sofa1afoS Great to have a viewer from Norway 😀 Hope you're enjoying your psychology course so far. And thank you for the feedback - I certainly do remember the history of psychology and cognitive psychology being some of the more dense and challenging material (!) Glad the videos have aided your learning.

It’s refreshing to see some positive evaluation points particularly the application to real-life in terms of counselling therapy. A lot of textbooks seem to criticise the approach for a lack of the real life application (perhaps as a result of it’s anti-scientific stance) but Roger’s idea are profound. The notion of unconditional positive regard is at the core of modern talking therapies with Samaritans and other mental health professionals all drawing interest from humanistic psychology. So yes whilst the approach is unscientific (could be somewhat challenged as Rogers did use the Q-sort to objectively measure progress in therapy), it’s practical contributions remain influential today

Thanks Jack ☺️ and for your helpful discussion comment. Yes, I think that the unscientific aspects of the humanistic approach means it can often be quickly dismissed. I didn’t know that about the Samaritans - thanks for that example.

11:44 What about the spiritual traditions in the East would they not qualify for the concept of self actualization?
@BearitinMIND
@BearitinMIND 5 месяцев назад
Good question - the Western/Eastern distinction between cultures is a very broad generalisation, and there's obviously differences within cultures, such as with the spiritual traditions in the east. Self actualisation might apply in that regard but it might look different/have different priorities for that culture. Hope that makes sense? What are you thoughts on the matter? Thank you for a thoughtful and interesting comment.

@@BearitinMIND I think self actualisation and self transcendence (allegedly Maslow added transcendence to his pyramid before his death) are the essence in Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Soefism,... Perhaps the original viewpoint of the humanists was referring to more primitive peoples whom they observed to mostly care about the lower hierarchical needs like food and safety.

@@iPostiPodiEatiYuri interesting ideas. From my understanding Abraham Maslow's came from a Jewish background and Carl Rogers had a Christian background/upbringing. You can see the influence of Christianity in some of his ideas - i.e. unconditional positive regard linking to the Bible's Gospel message of salvation apart from your good works/religious performance.
