This is Micro Homestead Ecology. We have been growing our own food and building a more sustainable life, in the high desert on less than an acre of land, since 2012 here in zone 6b. I am excited to use this platform to share some of what we have learned over the years.
Today, we share some ideas as we debate the potential implications of adding a rain water catchment system to our DIY greenhouse set up. I have spent the spring running harvest samplings with the most basic equipment imaginable, just five gallon buckets, all in the hopes of wrapping my head around how much capacity I need to work into the design looming in my mind. I'd love to hear anyones thoughts on the matter as we embark on this adventure.
Rain water catchment is an interesting concept here in the high desert region we call home. We don't get that much rain in a season, but the right spring storms could yield significant amounts of water even off a small roof like our greenhouse, but that's only if you have the capacity to catch and store it.
