George Foreman is like the man you fight in your nightmares. You hit him with everything you got and he doesn't stop coming. He's even scarier because he really exists.
When big George was young, he was the most terrifying man I've ever seen, his strength was frightening ,probably still is. He would of wiped out the joke that is the heavyweight division today.
I was in the Marine Corps, on a Merchant Marine ship, serving in Desert Storm when this fight took place. They had a big screen TV in the chow hall where all of us Marines were watching the fight. Serving my country while watching this fight was one of the greatest moments in my life. For just under two hours, this fight took all of our minds away from the war. Thank you both to these two great fighters.
George Foreman never stops his pursuit. No matter how many times he gets hit, he always keeps moving forward putting pressure on his opponent. Many can fake being unmoved by some harsh damage, but Big George doesn’t seem like he’s even faking. He just doesn’t care and keeps on trucking forward. Definitely one of The greatest of all time. Holyfield deserves credit too for his tremendous boxing skills, he earned the win, but Foreman proved himself worthy of being remembered as one of toughest fighters of all time.
Foreman's defence was good here but he was way faster in the 70s. The fact he did so well so far past his prime just shows how good the 70s heavyweights were.
@Conway Twitter do not agree just evander and lennox lewis. the rest were very close tho but instead of boxing they would brawl way too often on the inside.
Foreman made many of the 70s heavyweights, like Frazer and Norton, seem not so good. Ali didn't allow a Foreman rematch because he knew the "rope-a-dope" strategy could only be effective once.
I think it was this fight. Evander said that george hit him so hard that his mouth went numb. When the rounf ended he asked his cornerman if his teeth were koncked out cause he genuinely couldn't feel anything. He said that was the hardest he had ever been hit.
@@cruelleader4782 he admitted he clung to George in the 12th because he knew he had the fight on points. And although he hurt George a couple of times in the fight, George hurt him too. George’s performance at that age against a juiced evander Holyfield was remarkable.
I don't think people realise head damage builds up, Roy was letting the man gas himself out while he slipped in MULTIPLE soft shots to the head. The channel "modern martial artist" has a compilation of all the headshots of this fight in his breakdown. You don't really understand how many shots holyfield took until you watch them back to back like that. If boxing is a sweet science, then roy jones should get a goddamned phd.
Realize this is a 42 year old Foreman !! He is cut from a different clothe...he gave Holyfield all he could handle ! look at the age difference...what a man foreman is ! A brute force !!
Big George had such a chin on him, and was so much more skilled as a boxer than many people realise. He surprised many people in this fight, at the age that he was, and how well he held his own against Holyfield.
EH just wasn’t right past the 2nd round. I think George hit him on his ear couple times messing his equilibrium up. Just can’t put my finger on it. EH said it’s the hardest he has ever been hit. EH asked if his teeth where still there cause his face was so numb from George hitting him in chin.
I’ll never forget this, this was Friday 4/19/1991. My cousin was getting married the next day in Los Angeles and the rehearsal dinner was at the groom’s house that evening. EVERYBODY in the house was watching this fight. Soon as they finished putting my rollers in my hair I ran to the den to watch with most of the groomsmen and some of the bridesmaids LOL great times!!
Such a shame that we never got to see the best form of Foreman. The brain and experience of 90s Foreman in the Body of 70s Foreman beats any heavyweight in history.
@@renzopeterson153a lot of nostalgia down here...who did Ali beat during the 1960s? Old liston who had just 1x title defence against the same floyd? Bruh only Lennox Lewis would be trouble h2h
@@sorakazama7031 could be both. 40yr old George Foreman taking hits from a prime Holyfield and Holyfield held his own against Foreman who hits like a truck.
Man Foreman would have obliterated the competition if he was in his prime during this era. I don't think Holyfield would have stood much of a chance, those 70s boxers were just built different.
@@Deathkill06 I think the 1990s era almost stood up to the 1970s. You had Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Razor Ruddick, Bowe and Lennox Lewis. Even Moorer was no slouch although his loss to George tainted his legacy.. Holyfield was as tough as anyone from the 1970s, though I believe George would have beaten him if they met when both where in their 20s. But what would Norton or Shavers have done when after hitting him with their best shots, he still kept coming. My guess is he would have TKO'd both. Ali never would have been able to knock him out and doubtless won one of his infamous decisions.
Always brings shivers when they call… Big George Foooremannn Evander was in the shape of his life, whereas George was too slow, but still a massive tank. Still think that if George used the left hook more he would have more success, but Holyfield was clearly the better fighter. Holyfield also said that the jabs of Foreman popped his head too far back so he couldn’t connect with his right as you can see in the second round.
@Josh Traffanstedt He would have lost to a George Foreman in his twenties, I'm convinced of that; just too big and powerful. However, Evander Holyfield was one of the greatest warriors I ever saw. The more he was hurt, the more dangerous he became.
I thought Holyfield was crazy for coming into this fight light even by his own standards, but that ended up being a huge advantage. When George landed a power shot, it sent Holyfield out of the killzone and gave him precious seconds to recover. The difference between Foreman/ Holyfield vs Foreman/ Moorer was Holyfield figured out quick standing in front of George was way too dangerous of a gamble-- and Evander was much more durable than Moorer. This is where your ring iq and respecting your opponent is essential, because it's one of your most valuable skills in the toolkit. But what a fight!
and stamina 34:38 only time he starts breathing heavy he must be around 399 pounds here but he never looks tired. he just keeps coming. also he;s in his 40s here. in his era he was was tyson but with a stronger chin. it just shows how difficult it was to beat him but some did. ali had a tough chin. people talk about his boxing but he stood after taking whoppers. in his prime his chin had alot to do with his success. he got hit alot but took them.
@@fraser_mr2009 Foreman never weighed 300lbs lol. he used to be 220lbs back in the first phase of his career and weighed 245lbs or more at the second phase of his career.
Foreman in the 70's was a lot more mobile. I always liked his level of boxing in the Chuvalo fight, his technical skill was good with a great jab. After that he just seemed to want to club people into submission, which except when it came unstuck in Zaire, worked for him.
@@francescoschettino5726 ur not stand and just do crossguard bruh,u have to move and crossguard cant be do at anytime, foreman use grappling or push with his heavy and big power body
what Foreman did here was incredible. the man was in the wilderness for a decade, comes back in his 40s and gives all time great champ Evander Holyfield a hard fight.
42 almost 43 years old George is a win for box fans. Holyfield knows he loss inside his head not been able to knock down a 42 year old foreman is a loss and a win for George. Great great fight 2022
Imagine coming back into boxing. Fought his way back into a World Title fight. LOST! Then still had the desire to become great & winning the world title 3 years later. A true story of persistence
Love watching Foreman fight.. That push off out of every possible clinche was the coolest thing i ever seen as a kid.. Bro is like Jason stalking his prey
Furman changed his style and was no longer as reckless as he was against Ali. This change allowed him to last until the end of the 12th round. Unbelievable and a true legend.
I was only 4 years old at this point but I for some reason remember so much about George Forman! My grandfather and dad being a fan of boxing is why. George Forman was a household name! The grill he came out with was also apart of my childhood lol
Great chin, excellent footwork, and superb boxing skills. Evander was one hell of a fighter. Every fighter had kryptonite and his was stamina. If his motor ran higher he could have been the best. It didn't help that he was fighter naturally bigger boxers.
@@shishioh evanders strength was steroids and one of the dirtiest fighters ever. Head butting and many other dirty tactics. I respect him for having heart and being a phenomenal boxer. But I can’t help but see him headbutting and getting away with plus holding a lot.
I Never realized how close George was to knocking out Holyfield (11th Round) wow 🤩!!! What a shot ,Holyfield even said “Thought he knocked all my Teeth 🦷 Out!!!
I really believe that holyfield might be talking about round 10 because forman caught him with a short hard right hand that hurts holyfield in the mouth area. But I could be wrong and if I am it definitely happen in round 11.
Many years later Holyfield talked about that right hand he received from Foreman in the 10th round...he said he never saw it coming and it really hurt him.
To be fair, Holyfield expended a lot more energy than did Foreman. He threw and landed a lot more punches. As for your last sentence, I won't even justify that goofiness.
@@johnulmerRacing Evander landed more punches, then hugged up every time he got tired or George had strength. He knew he couldn't stand toe to toe the whole fight because George was such a powerful hitter. free hugs
Such a unbelievable fight!...Notice there was not much holding in this fight and in the 12 round Evander was holding more then Big George!...Wow George Forman a beast of a Human being!...
foreman, slower than in his earlier days, still hitting like a truck, moving his big machine-like body forward like a scrap press, not impressed by heavy strikes taken from the opponent. and all this at the age of 41, against the big and powerful holyfield. what a performance, what a show!
The right hand Big George threw at 40:37 is the punch that Evander said was the hardest punch he took in his whole career. He went back to his corner and ask them if his teeth were still in his mouth because he could not feel them and you see as soon as George threw that punch that Evander grabbed him and held.
I’d say the uppercut from Bowe in the tenth round of the first fight was a pretty big one too..That uppercut would’ve ended 99% of fights but Holyfield was on his toes throwing left hooks and rights at the end of the round..Amazing round of boxing.
Foreman managed to break Michael Moore's mouthguard and split his lip with the cross. He also casually walked up to Gerry Cooney and floored him with a left uppercut. His power was a spectacle.
Idk why people are not giving Holyfield his flowers for actually going in there and competing with Foreman and actually fighting his heart out with him props to Holyfield for going in there and giving it he all like a true champion to even get in there with Foreman
Just watched this for the first time and this may be one of my favorite fights of all time. The punches Holyfield landed would have Ko’d most opponents if not ended some careers, and foreman somehow stays on his feet. The last 2 rounds hollyfield is probably thinking to himself “that the hell do I have to do? F this, it’s koala time” can’t blame him, Foreman is constantly marching forward no matter what you hit him with is the thing of nightmares. Props to Forman for being a tank and showing old age is Jsut an inconvenience. And for Holyfield we got to really see how strong and sharp his combos and punches are; he’s very skilled, and again, against 99.9% of people, those punches would have taken them out. This is definitely now in my top ten favorite fights of all time.
Holeyfield was one tough man. I’ve never seen a man give up such size as he did in many bouts while still being able to trade blows and usually come out victoriously. As the later Moorer fight showed, even at this age Foreman could send his younger opponents into new (and unfortunate) dimension. Hat’s off to Evander.
I 100% agree with you. We oughtbto make room for Foreman on Mount Rushmore as far as I'm concerned, but Holyfield was a freak of nature in his own right and I'm not convinced he's ever gotten the true recognition he deserves. How many other cruiserweights have been able to hang with the big dogs? David Haye? Pshhh. Usyk? So far so good but we could debate over his options for real competition. Holyfield battled against some killers.
Round ten 1:16 left of the round. That straight left right from Foreman really stunned Holyfield. Look at it. Probably not enough power left, but he sure felt it.
The more I watch this fight the more I believe it was fixed, Foreman was clearly pulling punches and Holyfield despite hitting Big George numerous times was being very cautious as not to hit him hard enough to piss him off.🙈🙉🙊
I don't think anyone understands what a monster Foreman was as a boxer. Hollyfield was a freaking fearless killer. Look at how Hollyfield became the champ. Watch his fights in the 80's. Then Foreman took ALL THOSE SHOTS! GOD DAMN! That man was a freak! There will never be another Foreman.
Even Tyson ducked foreman. (Which has been told multiple times). The only reason was because cus always told Mike that he would never be able to beat foreman if they fought. Forman’s digging uppercut would be too bad for someone fighting peek a boo. Don was urging mike to agree on a fight with foreman and Tyson got mad, got up and said “ why don’t you fight that guy if you love him so much, he’s not what everyone thinks he is, it’s just an act”. And I think it would’ve ended in a foreman tko round 9/10. Maybe a Tyson decision victory if it was between 85-88.
@@SKa-tt9nm what ? He clearly said he wanted to fight mike tyson. Give me tyson. Tyson in the other hand didn't want anything to do with foreman, because of fighting style missmatching in his defavor
That was a Great fight and the fact that Forman at 42 years old...never sat down in the Corner went 12 rounds and did his best 🥊 Heart of a Champion 🏆 most men would have been K.O.ed by those hits from Holifield
Irresistible force? Meet Immovable object. Both of these guys are taken blows like you cant believe and neither of them are going down. Two of the toughest guys in boxing, no doubt about it.
This says a lot about Ali, Foreman and Fraiser. Foreman would have destroyed Holyfield in his prime. So I don't know how Mike Tyson would have done against Foreman or Ali with they were 25 or 30.
