Aron Ra one of the biggest Atheist influencers on RU-vid comes on Mormon Book Reviews to discuss the Book of Mormon with Evangelical Steven Pynakker! He discusses why he believes all religion's scripture is man made and why he decided to do a series about the Book of Mormon on his RU-vid channel. Steven talks about watching Aron's program while he was an Athiest/Agnostic and explains the value of people like Aron who expose charlatans like Kent Hovind of the Christian community.
I know that Aron will be a controversial guest for some of my viewers, but I do think it is important to know what kind of information that many of your children and grandchildren are consuming. I do think that Aron has integrity because he goes after all religions and not just Christianity. I also realize that about a third of my audience is Atheist/Agnostic and it is important that their voices be heard as well. Especially being a former one myself. I look forward to reading your comments!

I have a higher level of respect for Aaron from this video than I did when I watched his debates. As a debater, he was often pushy, radical, and over the top. On the contrary, he seemed calmer and more composed in this video. Nice to see a more relaxed side of him in spite of you two having different points of views. I may not be an atheist, Christian, Latter-day Saint (I’ve been more critical of the Bible, but believe it’s historically referable), but this was an interesting video. Very balanced and thought-provoking. Good job!

IMO I don't doubt there are concepts beyond us, similar to how concepts like wind or the planets is beyond an ant. However that's precisely the reason why I believe all manmade religions are false or don't capture the whole truth. Anything written by man is confined to the understanding of man. If there is some higher power, I doubt it will be defined by us. Rather, it exists outside our definitions. So Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, etc, I believe all are equally invalid, none could hope to capture the truth, because they are manmade constructs and a lot of the religious text is just rooted in cultural norms of the time (for example, the Bible prioritizes men and says some harsh things about women, which seems less about enlightenment or a higher power and more about cultural norms of the time).

I do not find myself agreeing with voting just to vote. If I vote for someone, I am at least in part responsible to the things they do if they are elected. I rather vote for what I actually believe in, and that is that the system and the candidates are not worth voting for. That I want better people representing me. People I do not believe are criminals. People who I do not believe scam everyone and pull strings to get gains at the cost of people in general. How many people is it that do not trust or like the people in power? The people up for election? I at least feel like there are a lot. So say then that all those people did not just vote for the sake of voting? If we are voting just to be against 'those people with those views over there.' Then how about we add a new thing to the elections to people can express that without having to support bad people.

When someone translates it is often put into language that they know . So, the these and thou’s would be something that the person would translate it to. When I ask someone that speaks Spanish how they would say a certain English word into Spanish they would often times tell me well there’s no word in the Spanish language it would translate into to but it would come close to and then they would tell me the word . Reformed Egyptian probably is no where near the English language so it would almost be for sure that Joseph had to think of an English word it would come close to.

Reading the Bible with an open mind leads to leaving Christianity, but not necessarily becoming an atheist. I am thankful to have woken from my religious indoctrination and then left theism, because there is no evidence for a god.
@ZhangK71
@ZhangK71 Год назад
Just a public service announcement: leaving theism necessarily-yes, necessarily-means becoming atheist. You can say “I left Christianity” and it doesn’t necessarily mean you became an atheist. You can even say “I lost my gnosticism” and it doesn’t have to mean you became an atheist. But the absence or departure from theism by definition means you became an atheist. This is the basic law of non-contradiction which is one of the pillars to logic.

When it comes to the bible making atheists, I think it's because when you're brought up in christianity you're taught all these things like how moral the bible is, how accurate the bible is, how perfect and good god it, etc and then you actually read the bible and find none of the things that were constantly told to you, instead you find immoral teachings, Hugh historical inaccuracies, horrifically evil acts done by god, for god and on gods instructions, discrimination, sexism, homophobia, child sacrifice, genital mutilation, slaughtering of innocent people, god mind controlling people to do evil (so there goes free will), god ruining a man's life to win a bet that they already know the outcome of, etc. What you're told about the bible when raised in the church and what you actually see when you actually read it for yourself, rather than blindly accepting what the preacher says, is so shockingly different from what you've been taught that you have three options, ignore what the bible says, come up with ever increasing excuses (which is what I did for a while until it became to much and for me it was a case of the straw that broke the camel's back) or the most honest option realise that this isn't what you were told and that it has way to many problems to be considered to be true.

Aron Ra describes a spiritual moment he had, which was destroyed by the poor arguments of a Christian believer. From 34 minutes into this video, Aron devotes about 80 seconds on Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. It can be summed up as a rant offering four 17th century terms. He says All the ridiculous terms that he (Joseph Smith) takes from King James English [...] could not have been derived from Egyptian. He says this is a guy that's making it up as he goes along and he's not really smart about it; but the thing is, people are not really as smart as they think they are. In spite of the "thee's, thy's insomuch's and durst not's", and supposedly being such a dumb book, it is likely a much better book than a smart man with spell check could write. He sounds like the old Soviet's who loved to mock what a dumb country America was, and yet were never able to build a better republic. People really aren't as smart as they think they are. If the book was "such a dumb book; written in the 1800's by someone pretending to be from 2600 years earlier", as Aron says, it is amazing that it addresses the debate between Thomas Moore and William Tyndale on the Bible translation terms such as Priest vs. Elder; Love vs. Charity; and Congregation vs. Charity. See Dr. Jan Martin's paper on the theological value of the King James language in the Book of Mormon. The testimony

I guess it depends on what you think it means to “know” something. I think you got stuck on the word “pretending”, which I would say is not the best word to use when explaining faith. As a believer, I didn’t feel like I was pretending anything. But I did claim that I knew things that I actually didn’t know. I believed them strongly, but I didn’t know them. Faith is actually *not* knowing something, but believing it. Otherwise it’s no longer faith, it’s just knowing.
