@@djgrahamevans Hey, yes I discovered it a few weeks ago. Studied the guide, the forums and a whole heap of xlights videos. I'll start buying stuff to get familiar with the gear in the new year, and once some group buys start happening for controllers. :) Here's hoping next year I can also have a behind the scenes video (albeit, a very amateur one!)

If you're interested in the hobby and you haven't done so yet, I encourage you to join Aus Christmas Lighting: auschristmaslighting.com/forums/ There's a great 101 manual that covers all you need to know, but the forums, wiki and chat room is where you can get all the specific details. In a nutshell though, my display is sequenced using xLights (free software) and then those sequences are played back on the rPi via software called falcon Pi Player (FPP - also free)

Yes correct. For data i use 1 core for data, 2 cores neg/gnd and 1 core pos. For power injection i use 2 cores for pos and 2 for neg.
