After our interview, Jim D'Addario took us across the street to Evans to give us a tour of the factory and see how these awesome drum heads are made. This is an amazing factory with a lot of moving parts. Check it out!
Very cool!!! I build and rebuild roll forming machines for a living, so I was pleasantly surprised when I seen the roll former making drum hoops!!!! Love Evans drum heads, I still swear by their hydraulic heads to this day!!!
@@mikeyshy8522 Theoretically Mikey but the history is more in depth than that. Actually more like '58 but drum heads back then were a mess. There is an excellent interview with Bob Beals by William F. Miller in the March 1989 edition of Modern Drummer magazine. Honestly, Evans wasn't much of a force in the drum universe until the successful design and manufacturing of their patented CAD/CAM hoops. (mid 90's?) Anyway...Evans is really the best head out there although many will dispute this from a sentimental viewpoint rather than a technical perspective. Seriously though...when did you actually start playing Evans drum heads? It wasn't 1956. Maybe late 90's-early 2000's ?
