That's unfortunate and too much troubleshooting! And you can't use the unit without the filter! (Well you can, but it just becomes an expensive fan) Perhaps ask for a refund instead of replacement? Thanks for watching!

@@TheCuriousEngineerChannel I did receive the new filter, and very quickly I might add... it was exactly the same as the original filter, meaning that it didn't look as though they had made any modifications to the original filter design to address any of the "smelly issues" we've been discussing. Unfortunately within a couple of days I was experiencing the same problem with the new filter. What's interesting to note is that when I originally set up the unit it did not start giving off the unpleasant odor until I had been operating it for about 2 months. It's really too bad because other than the odor, it really is a great little unit and does exactly what I wanted it for. I have found that if I use my vacuum hose attachment on the filter and clean it really well (when it's dry) and then put it back in, the smell is gone for a couple of days. But then this leaves the question that's even more important: what is causing this smell and what am I breathing in? Not worth the risk IMO.

As for smells, I've been using two EV1500's (purchased this summer) for over a month now, almost all day. I have experienced no smells. I use filtered water with a filter jug.

I don't really recommend any specific one, although the Arctic Air Pure Chill (2021 version) has worked well for me. I have a buyer's guide video out, and a playlist of all the units I've tested. Thanks for watching!

I have not heard anything from Evapolar since I made that review. I welcome their response. Perhaps your water isn't as hard as ours, and it's not causing it to experience the issues that I had? I am still concerned about the materials used in the filter. Thanks for watching!

@@TheCuriousEngineerChannel I see. I’m not sure how hard the water is. I’ve been using tap water and making sure I dry out the filter before I shut the fan off and that’s been working for me

Well, the EvaBreeze no matter if it is healthy or not, actually provides some evaporative cooling. The arctic air has at least not been a particularly impressive hit with me.

Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, that is not really true. The act of water evaporating actually uses energy to occur. So the act of air evaporating has a cooling affect, by the absorption of heat from the air. (Like the cooling effect of the wind blowing on your skin when you sweat.) These types of systems are used as stand-alone systems in the Western US (especially in the desert areas) and are are also incorporated in high-efficiency rooftop mounted AC systems too! I have a video testing out another evaporative cooler coming up along with the science behind it. These coolers are not a panacea, and many companies do make bogus claims. @@TheCuriousEngineerChannel You are right, evaporation causes a cooling effect... inside the air cooler. The problem is, you don't live in your air cooler. And outside of the air cooler, that is where the heat that was substracted from the water, will go, and stays. It's quite simple really: you can't generate cold air within a closed compartment! You just can't. You can split it, but in this case you bring them back together again (with moisture!!). It's as if you put a real mobile airco inside a room, but you don't blow the hot air outside. The room will warm up (quite fast). But hey, it (also) blows cold air. This is the story you are telling people, that there's no need to get rid of the hot air. It's a scam, and you (should) know it! Oh and why do some people really think it works? Well, they hold their hands in front of the blowing air cooler, which causes their skin to dry, resulting in a cooler skin, making them think the air has cooled down.

@@Shampooworld I have an Evapolar EvaSmart and that thing definitely cools down the air. I have even measured it with my own thermometer to not rely on the temperatures that are shown on the device and it absolutely turns 28° air into 21° air. NO it is NOT cooling down the whole room. This is NOT an airconditioner. But it marvelously works to cool down the air at a desk and I sometimes even get goosebumps. I have rosacea and high temperatures give me a very painful burning rash, that thing 100% keeps those away as long as I don’t leave the desk for too long. It also works better then a cheaper „Air Cooler“ I bought before, I think because the other had a much shorter filter and it would just constantly dry up half way and not stay wet. The cartridge of the EvaPolar is huge and long by comparison, and I have noticed that it soaks up the water much better which seems to create the better cooling effect. For temperatures up to 30° this works amazingly. Above that I think evaporative coolers get less effective unfortunately. But calling it a Hoax… No I absolutely have to disagree with that. Evaporative/ Swamp Coolers are a real thing and work great. In certain conditions! Once humidity gets above 60% the cooling effect lessens. But there is a huge difference between that cooler and JUST a ventilator. Once the filter is dry, the cooling effect is gone.
