I like the concept, but 10 connectors in the wall or on the ground are a lot more cheaper and can charge more cars...

Installation costs outweigh the benefits and after a couple of years, most likely obsolete

>10 cars would need multiple robots assume fast charging takes 1 hour that's 2 hours for each car not including travel and hookup times which at that speed could take up to another hour sou you are looking at 20 hours to charge 10 cars which rely is not a vary good option.

This would be perfect for the fleet vehicles that we have at work. They could all be charged up overnight by the robot and we wouldnt need 30x outdoor wall sockets for the cars or one rapid charger and then someone for the office to move cars around all day

I find it interesting that Tesla and other EV manufacturers just assume every EV owner has a private garage where a dedicated charger (or space for an automated charger like Tesla demoed) is available. It is true that in US, anyone with money for a Tesla most likely has a dedicated, private garage, especially in California and such. In Seoul, S. Korea, almost no one owns a detached house with an attached private, dedicated garage. Virtually no one, except for crazy 'super' rich S Koreans. Everyone basically lives in a high rise apartment, and if the building is relative new, it would have an underground, shared parking space like shown in the video by Bjorn N. Thus this EVAR concept was planned and implemented, because that is literally the only viable option in places like S. Korea. If EV manufacturers can come up with a somewhat of a standardized way to open charger port automatically and skip the manual adapter step, I can see this EVAR being super useful. Btw, installing anything in a building (new or retrofitting in an existing building) will cost money, time. And once THAT technology used with the building becomes obsolete, what do you do next? With EVAR, it's literally a matter of making the robots in a factory and shipping them out. This EVAR is a good start.

This is the way to go to electrify air-port long time parking! And to some degree hotels and other long time parking. Probably possible to have many robots share one dock, and have the robots line up to recharge, then to stand by fully charged. Maybe possible to have different price if you want charging immediately, or can wait for hours or days.

@stephenbrickwood1602

The car should simply drive itself into the parking space and 'reach out and plug itself in '. The car can be part of the grid and trade power/ stability for money.
@stephenbrickwood1602
@stephenbrickwood1602 2 года назад
You do not have to be a fast charger. If the vehicle is plugged in 24/7 except for the rush hour or daily drive, it can trade power/stability for money. EVERY VEHICLE can be part of the grid. THIS IS NOT COOL. This is ' horse and cart thinking ' , the big fill up is stupid, STUPID. This idea is public domain, you can steal the concept, hello China. 👋 hello 👋 Hello 👋 Korea hello 👋 Hello anyone, the world, hello 👋

Interesting idea! BTW that QR-Code style tag on the connector on the car is an ARTag. I guess, they use ROS, the robotic operating system. Makes implementing this much easier as many functions are there already. Still nice work and lots of stuff to put together!

This proof of concept is just a starting point of what is possible. I see the robot more for low frequented outdoor lots where it makes no sense to install a full blown charging infrastructure. The adapter is really the key innovation here. Parking garages could have moving charge points attached to a monorail mounted on the ceiling either front or back position of the parking lot with an extending arm coming down from the ceiling to connect to the charging adapter. This would make the robot obsolete in this kind of setting. Also large outdoor parking lots like at IKEA could be retrofitted with a charging rail with moving electric chargers, making obsolete any stationary charge points. I can see a lot of great innovations coming our way. And it is going to move fast once EV really starts taking off.

Why not put a Charging Plug that can come from the ceiling where they put in there own cable and the robot connects to that connector in the ceiling to charge? Way faster because it's a fixed point...
@robert5008

Nice idea, would it not be a faster set up if the charger would place a wireless charging pad under the nose of the car instead of trying to align to a plug?

Glad to see that my children will have their own "inkjet printer"-experience with charging robots. Like the machine runs some weird protocol, moving from left to right, making strange noises etc. Looks cool, but maybe it will be more convenient to increase the number of wallboxes in the parking lot. Parking spots without a pillar can have the box on the ceiling and the plug is mounted on a rail next to it. Enter the number of your parking spot and the plug comes down. Still i prefer the R2D2 experience.

B M They make more money by supplying the parts to the EV makers. Samsung did make cars for a while way back in 2004. That venture cr was shed because of the Asian financial crisis. The company is focusing on car parts ( advanced EV parts).

@MsSomeonenew
@MsSomeonenew 5 лет назад
Some might call this the best charger EVAR... Well it is cool at least to see the concept, I hope they can upgrade it to the point where they will just have all the universal plugs and do the whole process themselves. With this adapter you are doing even more work then just getting a plug directly into the car, but it could be a huge benefit to have a mobile robot charging cars on any parking space without the need to put in thousands of super chargers.

Yeah I've seen this today on the news!!its from samsung clab project. I thought it was clever that in most buildings setting up new ev station is inefficient and at times its occupied already either by evs or fossil cars. It steps up to more environment friendly by using recycled ev battery as power sourceㅋㅋㅋ
@perseperseenreika2192
@perseperseenreika2192 5 лет назад
Cool stuff, but I don't see many benefits here. You still have to plug in the car. I think cable is cheaper than a robot with a battery. I think future is wireless charging. Module under the car and charger in every parking slot. You just drive the car to a slot and accept charging with a push of a button.

I don't see too much high tech in this (very old tech like you have in IT tape storage robots for years. Why they don't have a plugs in the ceiling at every parking spot so robot would be smaller. Then it is so slow finding spot then even slower connecting. My old robotic vacuum does better job finding charging station :-). As a new tech I would consider something with AI and cameras so it finds charging port (just by taking a picture of the car should be able to know where charging port is) and doesn't use adapters but plugs in directly.
@MsSomeonenew
@MsSomeonenew 5 лет назад
Well this can be put into any parking area, the overhead plug system would first need an upgrade to all parking spots. Certainly isn't the final solution when you need to plug stuff in yourself before the robot can work, but this is the first deployment and it does it's job.
@SebSoCal
@SebSoCal 5 лет назад
It’s fun but it would probably be quicker and cost way less to install plugs at each parking spot than having an army of robots (and robots will increase the traffic in the parking lots, not what people want).
