I can confirm the Kestrel in T1 Darks is great. My tech 2 fit is like 10mil but you can make it even cheaper with some modifications. Pays for itself in one or two runs depending on drops.

aceface, i have a question! is it worth it to go for the extraction nodes? or just the bioadaptive cache?

In my humble opinion the extraction nodes are probably not worth until T4. Gets quite substantial after that though.

how would the garmur do with rockets instead of light missiles.. more dps but i think especially with the mwd you should be close soon enough anyway so you could make it up.

rockets mean going up close and personal, and while that thing has about all the buffer it'll ever get, it's sig radius is the size of a truck. Meaning, your survival banks on not getting hit in the first place. MWD doesn't do damage mitigation like an AB does: AB gives you speed. MWD makes you be somewhere safe instead of getting shot at. You could build a cheap condor with insane shield resist, cap stable with a lil booster, to perma tank any and all guristas damage, but you're stuck with 150 dps. Same fit on a garmur gives you 250 for much higher cost. Not recommended in the abyss as trying to tank that dps is not advisable. Also Wrecking shots could probably still oneshot you without the buffer. So, in short, Rocket garmur and the abyss probably don't mix.
