kitty cat it’s really not I started a week ago and I’ve already got 5 million, just keep in high-sec and use the venture you get after the game kills you
+ClassicTophatGaming I'm just at the beginning of the video, and it seems he wastes unnecessary time on character creation which doesn't really teach the beginner anything. If he wastes time like that throughout the video, then it's understandably that long.
+Lukáš Dohnal He does say at the beginning though that it's basically flavor text with no effect on how you progress through EVE. For a complete newbie however I think it's an appropriate amount of time to spend on these things.
I've played EVE off and on for years. I knew all the basics prior to watching this, but I still watched it because you're so damn good at presentation and explanation. Keep it up, Scott!
Thanks Scott! I typically play "Casual" games but I've been trying to learn how to play EvE as a surprise for my fiance, who loves this game online and has been playing since 2004. Love the KSP videos, after a year of owning it I finally got on the mun because I came across your vids!
YES! I bet this will soon be the most often linked to and viewed eve video ever made....thanks scott, i'll link this to all the new guys who come to me for questions.
This is definitely a niche game that only a small sample of the gaming population can actually handle. No other game is as unforgiving and, as a result, no other game is as satisfying when you actually accomplish something, and no other game gets the heart racing quite as much when in PVP combat.
Hrafn Skald But DOTA2 as any other mobas out there are not unique, there is no sense of real accomplishment and the gameplay definitely gets automated in the player so much lots of it gets old when you get experienced. EVE has the factor of never getting old, starting with the awesome outlook already, then going to the movement, the character development, the accomplishments, the community values, etc. The list can go on limitless, and still everyone would find his share of fun in it, because of the career possibilities are so different and you can always do new things and have a chance to succeed, be it combining of ingame skills or pure social skills in the use...
***** Look at it as more you are giving orders to a crew in where to plot a coarse and who/what to target as Scott has said before. Also it is only spreadsheets online if you go into industry and that will be changing with the next expansion. I think the key thing with eve is patience and knowing your boundaries of what you can and can't do, at your current skills. Like trying to run missions in a battleship with the same guns you had on your cruiser or when you have not trained the proper weapons for that size of a ship. If you have patience the world is yours in eve. even when you just have a frigate and a few guns on it with a warp scrambler you can kill things in low sec. Know that 14-21 days is not enough to experience the game and what you can do I am still doing and learning new things and I have been playing since 2010. In fact I have spent that last 2 days on with my corp moving into a new Wormhole deep in uncharted space. and I have yet to even experience nullsec to its fullest as most people consider it to be endgame. You will have more fun and more of a sense of accomplishment then with any other game especially in PVP the first few deaths will not compute when you come from a game like wow but then when you start to do better and learn how to do it no game will ever give you the same adrenalin rush as EVE. PVP, in win or loss you are putting something you worked for on the line. It is like the rush you get from racing down steep mountain road or going into a Fighter jet dog fight. Just remember never fly what you can't afford to lose, Good Hunting, And Fly Safe.
I started out eve 2 weeks ago with some friends who're really good at eve, right now after 14 days i can fly a decent merlin. I gotta say if you can start out with friends who're good you'll learn the game tens of times faster than if you do it alone.
I remember playing EVE back in the Beta, and once a while back with a free trial, and I just souldnt get into it. The Combat was what really got to me, I felt like I was playing LoL or WOW more then a space trading and adventure game.
liam kerr It wasn't. I'm not saying dwarf fortress is an easy game but it's childs play compared to EVE. Dwarf fortress is easy to figure out you just need to get use to the crappy UI.
David Wiita Lol you serious I've been playing dwarf fortress since I was 15. It ain't hard stop acting like you need to have a special intelligence to play it. To play EVE you need to read shit load of crap on online while for dwarf fortress all you need to to figure out how to use that crappy UI.
Thnx so much for introducing me to such an in detailed game which is so free (not in money wise) but the fact that you can go anywhere in space mine, battle or shop
thank you for the great tutorial. I have been thinking of playing this game or a long time. But it still seems pretty involved, gonna needa watch this a couple more times.
That probably says more about the nature of EVE than being a slight on your time management :) I started my trial sub and have been playing avidly for 4 days. Once I got past the clunky spreadsheet-like UI I lost myself completely. Reminds me (in a good way) of my first encounter with Elite many years ago.
i wish i could forgett everything i know about eve online to play it and learn all the stuff again... it was awesome to be new to this games... good memories! :>
Elite Dangerous is pretty good, more flight sim in controls than eve. Huge universe, though, to the point you can easily not engage with players if you don't want.
Been playing EvE since Beta, Ive fought in many wars, spied on the enemy and my corp mates, screwed over the ones I held dearest to me and rewarded them with the heads of our enemies. Ive lost tens of thousands of pounds worth of gear and made more back, its the ultimate sandbox that has had me addicted for over a decade. An exclusive club for those that can.
I'm very interested in this game and am highly considering playing it after exam period is over! By the way. In your ten tips before you start video i remembered you mentioning be aware of all sides of the contract. So i looked at incentives for the buddy programme. Enjoy the free Plex ;)
@@kunstderfugue hahaha so funy... lmao. XD I was going for that cuz I like the good character but I feel like this game needs socialization so I am glad I chose something cooler, not cuter.
Hey Scott :) I just got my subscription and have followed all three videos in your guide. What is your id in the game so I can PM you to get that cash you mentioned?
Hey Scott Manley. Just started playing a couple of days ago thx to your vids. Used your link for the free 21 days. Anyways, looking to get hooked up in game.
I'm one of the recruiter of Brave Newbies... i have an application from someone this morning. says "I would like to join Brave Newbies at the recommendation of Scott Manley. He wrote to me that the best corp for a relatively new player to join was in fact Brave Newbies" ... if it's really true.. then thanks you very much that someone like you recognize our existence....
im thinking of starting eve online but could you show of some ships that are available later and the starting ships of each faction? im so confused wich faction to pick
Scott Manley, I found your videos when I first picked up KSP back in beta and have loved your overly talkative style of tutorial. You always berate yourself for going on at length, but that's why I keep coming back. You don't just teach about mechanics, you explain your process and try to get us to think in a better way instead of just emulating what we say, so while you do sometimes go off on the wildest of tangents, I quite enjoy it. I was overjoyed when I picked up EVE and found that you had a tutorial series. Thanks.
Hey Scott, Are you still giving out ISK for going through your link for a trial? I watched all the videos and just used your link. Downloading now and looking forward to getting started.
Thanks for this, I can actually get started now I was lost last time I tried it. Is it still really popular online? I noticed it said join 7k+ people online, is that because I'm doing a trial?
I have a question. I've heard some one said that you don't need to pay real cash for the game after you sign up for a 14 day free trial, instead you can pay it with in game money to extended the time. Does that means I will become the real player like who actually payed for it or it means I can still play it but I'm still just a guy who's free trial time got extended? *confused* Because those who actually payed for the game got features free trials don't have
actualy, there is a kit for starting which contains a limited 14-day +9 implant to all skills, and then there are (relatively cheap) + 5 implants people can buy after that. I played eve, but i just didn't have the time investment to make an operation which could support everything.
Scott!!!!, I will comment on every one of your videos until you get more eve videos on your channel. Or you tell me why you don't put eve videos up anymore PS LOVE YOU
do you think its a good game to get if can only use a pc that can play it will a few hours every night ? if so i might buy it and pay for sub but do you have to buy the exp or do they come with the game ? any info would be great.
It's actually a perfect game for people with limited play time. Skill training, which the THE most important aspect of Eve happens in real-time, whether you're playing or not, as long as you remember to keep your skill que filled. (more advanced skills can take weeks or months to gain a single point after about 3+, but I honestly wouldn't worry about those till later. It takes a lot of other skills beyond the minimum requirements to use a ship well and you're better off getting a feel for the game in cheaper frigate/destroyers/cruisers while you build up your other skills which are for general things that translate to any ship you're piloting. The biggest mistake newbs make is rushing for ships they don't have the income to easily replace, losing them due to barely having the minimum skills to pilot them, then getting discouraged and quitting). Rate of gain is determined by your stat distribution vs the primary/2ndry stat requirements of the skill you're trying to learn. Keeping a balanced spread (which is what each character starts with) will allow you to learn any skill at the same rate, but if you already know what you want to focus on, redistributing your skill points can allow you to reach higher levels of that play-style sooner. A new player starts with .....I think...2 or 3 free stat redistribution to give you a little bit of leeway to make mistakes, but after that, you can only redistribute once per year and that cannot be sped up in any way. If you use your stat distributions wisely you can VERY quickly become highly proficient in a style of play of your choice vs another player who tried to hedge and just do everything well. And no, expansions packs are included free of charge. I wouldn't even really call them expansion packs..they just slightly bigger content patches with more fan-faire.
Where they then proceeded to take that Cube once more and attach it to the rear end of the longest ship they could find. You were indeed right, the time of the phallus has come.
Well I think you pretty much described every mmo on the market in one way or another. Over the years I've had the chance to play a good few mmo's, many of which friends and acquaintances have sold to me as being the "next best thing" just to find it to be as boring and tedious in the end as any other mmo. I for one enjoy the tedious aspects of EVE (yeah..), I love the meta and being able to get involved far more than any other mmo out there. I also have multiple accounts, payed for in isk.
no, you can buy implants, i saw a sign up thing where a new character can pay more to get +9 implants for the first 14 days of playing. Eve online is about accumulating assets, anyway, not ships, or modules, or the ability to use them, but assets.
Hey Scott! I do not expect you to reply to me individually, as you have now grown quite extensively - but I was wondering if you could (when I inevitably install the game) give me some pointers - extending from this wonderfully thought out tutorial.
i was thinking about starting EVE now...but is it still a living game(are there as many players as there were 2 years ago?) or is it empty,a dead game?
been playing since 2006 its such a hard game to do a walk through guide if you start to play out of game research and knowledgeable friends is key to a good start its not a game for the faint hearted but its an extremely rewarding game when you get there
